All-America center Alex Mack announced on Tuesday that he will return for his senior season with the University of California. Mack earned All-America honors from multiple entities, including first-team recognition by The Sporting News. "This is a really great opportunity for me to help the team," Mack said. "There is a lot I can do at Cal to improve my game and to further my career. I didn't want to miss the experience of my senior season and helping the team get back on track and finish things right. This also gives me an opportunity to finish my degree and continue my education. I came to Cal because of the outstanding education and I want to finish that before I'm done. I'm really just looking forward to getting into spring ball and seeing how the team comes together for 2008." - Cal Football

I'm hoping the Texans finish with a winning record & pick somewhere in the mid 20's (resonable) & Alex Mack is on the board when we pick. :)

I read where Mack was given a 4th round grade by the NFL advisory board. Going from there to the 1st round is a big jump up the draft board in one year. Not to mention that a 1st round center is a pretty rare sighting.

Taking a center in the 1st round is idiotic. You can get a guy just as good in the 3rd, its not like centers fly off the board like OTs

Interesting guy for sure, but I want to see how Eslinger does. I was very high on him coming out of college and believe he could be our Center o the future.

I really don't want to wait until 09 to get a legit center. We should be making some noise by 09....atleast I hope.

Nick Mangold was drafted in the late first round by the Jets, but I'm not sure if there have been many other centers drafted in the first.

Not very many but more recently. Mangold in 06, Chris Spencer in 05 by the Seahawks, Jeff Faine in 02, Damien Woody in 99. Then all the way back to Steve Everitt to the Browns in 93.

What about this guy this year?

Jonathan Luigs for the people who refuse to click. C for Arkansas. He could come out this year or next.

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves.

seems like alot of talented underclassman are coming early, so the point was to spotlight a top center (not sure where Lucky got his 4th rd. source, cause I don't buy it) thats returning next year so y'all can file him away :)

of course alot depends on how our line situation shakes out via free agency/draft. it would seem that the Texans are turning the corner on the value of linemen, so its feasable they draft one every year in one round or another :bowser:

I could live with the right 2nd rd. tackle (in trade down) this draft, to groom behind Salaam. leave Pitts @ LG. McKinney/Weary Center. Spencer RG & Winston RT. depending how McKinney comes back as well Weary, C may become a clear priority come next April :devilpig:

he is the top C on my big board, and the best C in the nation IMO. Mack is a second rounder. i don't buy first round for him, even next year.
