'06 Franchise Tag Amounts

Didn't see this anywhere else. If it's out there, mods can whack this thread. This is the '06 franchise numbers:

To save the obvious question, this is all treated capwise as base salary. It goes off the team's cap if the player is traded. If a player is franchised and later re-signed to a long term deal with the same team, the cap hit is adjusted based on the new signing bonus proration and base salaries.

I wonder if they are talking about redoing this system. The use of roster bonuses is making these numbers very volatile. A year ago CB's were at $8.8 mil, above even QB's at $8.08 mil due to Winfield getting his signing bonus as a roster bonus. Now they are down to $5.9 mil and DE's have swung up almost $2 mil.

It's not being publicized but I imagine franchising and transition tagging is on the docket during CBA negotiations. The players seem to hate this system

I would think at the top of their list would be some limitation on the number of times the franchise tag can be used in a row.

Quick question, how many times did the Colts use it on Edgerrin? Was it two years in a row? More/less? and how many has it been for alexander now.

I'm pretty sure the Colts only F tagged Edge once - this past season - just like Alexander. Both of them were unhappy about it but only Alexander had something put in his contract that prevented a repeat. Walter Jones was tagged by the Hawks multiple times.
