If Slaton isn't starting week 1

Now that I think about it, you don't really have to start him. Marion Barber didn't start at all last year, and look what he did. :)

I will eat my texans hat live on webcam.

hmm maybe we should call kubiak and tell him not to start slaton for your benefit. you'll probably need the practice since it looks like you'll be doing it again within a yr or 2.

i've been here since the beginning...and some people will cosign on anything. Im calling this like i see it..and i see huge mistakes. Epic, franchise killing mistakes.

this is true... i think slaton deserves most of the touches though. that's for sure. he's easily the most explosive back we have... anyone else is expendable/replaceable.

Taylor longest run of the night.....7 yds against the 1st team.
Slaton longest run of the night....20 yds against the 1st team & i believe he had 2 of those. He's also the only RB of ours to break 6-10 yarders at a pretty good clip throughout the preseason.

Slaton's average for this game would also be higher if Studdard hadn't gotten him blown up twice. This week & last shows that Slaton should be at minimum splitting carries with Taylor. He's forcing his way into the lineup b/c no one else has shown anything else. i believe this excuse of him not being able to pick up on the pass protection is way overblown b/c he somewhat knows the system from WVU. Plus, Kubes is kidding himself if he thinks that Taylor isn't gonna slip up & get Schaub decleated. Aside from all that the kid can just flat out run........end of story.

I don't care who starts frankly and I'm happy with both backs. That being said, I'd rather have a back averaging 4.3 yds per carry with a long of 7 than a back averaging the same with a long of 20. Also, in regards to Taylor, he has converted multiple 3rd downs the past two weeks, including a third and 3 last night and a 3rd and 6 the week before. Those are important things. Besides, neither of these two are going to get 300 carries over the course of the season, so who cares which guy gets the first carry.

I agree... but remember Slaton lost a bunch on those times he got STUFFED on missed blocks by Studdard. His average would have been higher without those.

I think green is starting thats intill he gets hurt

it will be slaton maybe on 2nd

and green on 1st and 3rd because hes more of a power runner

He's a power runner? Well if that's the case then hes the softest power runner I've ever seen in my life.

Man I hope Chris Brown starts against the Steelers, only for the first play though, so I can have some entertainment. Slaton goes for 120 and we still get the hat eating.

Don't forget to let us know where to watch that.

Didn't we have a back who averaged 4.2 with a long of 7 yds, last year ?? Ron Dayne

Dayne: 4.0 ypc, 39 yard longest run, averaged 59.5 ypg on 14.9 attempts per game. Total of 773 yards and 6 TDs.

Walker: 4.6 ypc, 41 yard longest run, averaged 66.0 ypg on 14.5 attempts per game. Total of 264 yards and 1 TD.

allright. Time to set up some logistics. I need a convienient viewing time for all, a tech setup to join you together, and somebody with a webcam. Any way we can conjoin this to charity? maybe get some more money to a good cause? and yes...im going to eat the damn hat.

Could always run in behind Kubiak during his post game presser shown on HT.com and cram a few bites in before security escorts yuo out.

by the way...i refuse to undertake this without bbq sauce.

I think we may have a loophole.

3-Je.Reed kicks 77 yards from PIT 30 to HOU -7. 11-A.Davis to HOU 21 for 28 yards (38-C.Davis).
1-10-HOU 21 (14:54) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 83-K.Walter ran ob at HOU 32 for 11 yards.
1-10-HOU 32 (14:32) 8-M.Schaub pass short right to 30-A.Green to HOU 29 for -3 yards (43-T.Polamalu, 51-J.Farrior).
2-13-HOU 29 (14:32) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 80-A.Johnson to HOU 43 for 14 yards (51-J.Farrior).
1-10-HOU 43 (13:18) 20-S.Slaton right guard to HOU 43 for no gain (91-Aa.Smith).
2-10-HOU 43 (12:44) 20-S.Slaton right guard to HOU 44 for 1 yard (56-L.Woodley, 91-Aa.Smith). PENALTY on PIT-51-J.Farrior, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at HOU 43 - No Play.
2-5-HOU 48 (12:19) 20-S.Slaton up the middle to HOU 50 for 2 yards (50-L.Foote; 92-J.Harrison).
3-3-HOU 50 (11:36) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 89-D.Anderson to PIT 48 for 2 yards (26-D.Townsend).
4-1-PIT 48 (10:50) 8-M.Schaub up the middle to PIT 48 for no gain (99-B.Keisel, 98-C.Hampton). Houston challenged the first down ruling, and the play was Upheld. (Timeout #1 at 10:32.)

which reminds me... those last two ball spots by the refs, sucked.

In the interest of sanity (plus the technicality thing), I think we need to find an edible hat. This just isn't safe. :tiphat:

You guys are being nice. The depth chart clearly states that not only is Slaton not the first string, but the third string RB behind Taylor.

Below is the Texans' unofficial depth chart. Click here for the interactive depth chart. Last update: Sept. 4, 2008.

Offense
POS First String Second String Third String Fourth String Fifth String
WR Andre Johnson André Davis
LT Duane Brown Ephraim Salaam
LG Chester Pitts Kasey Studdard
C Chris Myers Chris White Mike Brisiel
RG Mike Brisiel Chris White
RT Eric Winston Rashad Butler
TE Owen Daniels Mark Bruener Joel Dreessen
WR Kevin Walter Jacoby Jones David Anderson
QB Matt Schaub Sage Rosenfels
RB Ahman Green Chris Taylor Steve Slaton
FB Vonta Leach Chris Taylor

And while yes Slaton may have gotten the first run of the game Green was still the back on the field for the first snap.

SWT you should be proud you are about to eat your hat, you can now proudly say that you crap Battle Red, Liberty White, and Steel Blue.

Besides, a bet is a bet. This is no different than losing a card game.

I would suggest that you would be excused from eating the bill but you have to eat the sweat ring.

can we make this a poll? im willing to let the message board be the jury

Well, Slaton technically got the first carry, but Ahman Green was targeted by a pass prior to that. So the RB was offensively involved before Slaton was. EAT THE HAT!!!!!

OK, serious about the play sequence, but eating a hat is probably going to be a bad thing. I'd advise against it :)

now slow down and think about this
don't take your game anger out on swtbound07

Can't get away with eating food, no matter how disgusting. Its got to be something weird, like roaches. Or the hat. May want to cook the hat first, to get it softened up

i was planning on cutting the hat up into strips, dipping in sauce. agreed, food wouldn't substitute.

the only thing that makes me hesitate is that frankly i really love my texans hat. my dad bought it for me game 1, season 1, and i've worn it every day since. i might buy another hat for eating.

I am not trying to be a butt, however, a bet is a bet.

Just like Steve McQueen's character in Alfred Hitchcock's "A man from the South" , if you don't want to lose your little finger, than you shouldn't bet your little finger.

If you don't want to eat your hat, you shouldn't bet your hat.

I think this is a life lesson that our young gambler needs to experience and to keep this event in mind the next time a bet is placed.

Never bet something that your not willing to lose.

Thats just my opinion.

Besides, he's eating cotton. He will be alright.
