Official I love our draft thread

In Rick Smith I trust. Great draft so far. I am psyched that we have addressed our LT, CB, and RB needs in that order. I wanted 1st round quality LT and we got great value in Slaton and Adibi especially. Who else is with me. I have had a huge smile all day today because of our picks. I can't wait till preseason to see these guys in action.

What a great change from the vomit inducing drafts under cASSerley.

I'll second that.

I was a bit piturbed about our first pick, but I am very excited about the rest of the picks. Way to go FO!

Yea, I haven't been posting much but that should not be interpreted in me not being here and reading all this. This weekend has been great. Disagreements, agreements, we are all pulling for the same thing, and yes, Casserly has left the building.

Shotgun.

2006 is my favorite draft since we've seen the results, but 2008 might be even better. stay tuned.

We traded down to get who we wanted and added Slaton with that extra pick. Color me happy with this draft.....

I happy with this draft, we are getting great depth within our team with starters and back ups. I guess we are just missing that DE to compliment Mario, but we should be good against the run this year.

The Texans may target DE Tommy Blake in the 7th Round or even as an Undrafted Rookie Free Agent. If they do and they are able to get him and Okam to return to their previous forms then the Texans 2008 Draft would be their best ever.

All the picks so far are ones I agree with. The RB, though, is not gonna be a full time starter who can run up the middle a lot. He's to small for that. But running him to the outside and lining him up as a reciever, kick returns, things like that he should be really good.

I don't see where he is our future full time RB. But, I've been wrong before.

When we make the playoffs this year or next, we will look back at this draft as the one that put us over the edge. The additions of Duane Brown, Alex Gibbs, and Steve Slaton makes me VERY excited about our run game and offense in general. Our passing game was already good, I can't wait to see it with a real rushing attack.

We are adding the necessary depth required of playoff caliber teams.

Kudos to Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak in building a legit NFL playoff contender in less than 3 years after taking over a team decimated by crappy personnel moves and coaching.

The Texans haven't had a winning season yet, but anybody with any football sense can see that this organization is on the right track and it's becoming commonplace to see excellent moves being executed.

Great draft!

This has clearly been a Draft to fill needs and we've met almost all of the
them, on paper atleast: OLT, CB, RB, & NT for DLine. We've even got more
depth at LB & perhaps SS - Talib. And we used a 6th round pick in this Draft awhile back to get a center from the Broncos. The one remaining need we still have not met in this Draft is a weakside edgerusher, but we have 2 more picks and sometimes a team gets lucky in the 6th or 7th round.

todd mcshay hates duane brown...now i'm even more on board.

Look, I know NOTHING about antwaan moulden. Nothing. Have no idea if we did good with that or not...

but i know slaton, and i know adibi...and im STOKED about both of those. Slaton is a meast, and adibi is a headhunter with hands. Add in Okam, a true run stuffing DT, and I'm happy with our late round choices. If they can coach up brown, we had an awesome draft. if not, Im still wayyyy hyped about slaton.

We were able to land Slaton because of the pick aquired from trading down in the first round.:)

I'll reserve judgement, wait to see how productive they are in fall camp to see who makes the team, then at least have some perspective. right now the Texans draft board is from another planet, but thats ok if it works :specnatz:

well I'm not a big slaton fan....I'll give shanahand the benfit of doubt here. I believe the guy is going to end up breaking our hearts. Room for me too ?

I rewatched the two tacks games this week...they had to make a move with the OLT . One game Salaam misses a simple twist and Haynesworth litterlay planted MS like grannies cucumbers. The next Tacks game Eric misses an inside move and Odam burries the left shoulder into the ground. He's ony got so many of those hits in the tank. They had to bite the bullet and do something.

Love this draft. From top to bottom I think we got good ball plqyers. Wasn't a huge Slaton fan, but I think he can be a good addition to our corps.

And I hate Todd McShay ;)

I am a fan of this draft class. Was the QB at 7 a surprise? yeah, but I really liked Adibi and of course Steve Slaton. I'm pleased with the draft, no question. :texflag:

I don't know much about the players this draft, and I usually don't; but, from what I do know, I'm happy. We seem to have filled needs without reaching too much. We also got our Center with a late round pick and that 2nd round pick hurts, but it helped us get Schaub. All together, I think our offseason has been superb.

Some of these picks might turn out to be mistakes, but knowing Smithiak, most of them won't. Besides that, every team makes some mistakes. Look at Tennessee, hahahahahahahahaha!

Dr. Z gives Miami the best grade of the draft. sounds good to me, insanely refreshing to hear something like that

Most bad teams that are drafting high get good grades due to the higher talent level. Couple that with all the additional picks = high grade.

I reckon Atlanta and KC graded high too, right?

But the Texans never got high marks when they were drafting first overall. The first year, the critics were right. What a pathetic draft that was. The '06 draft on the other hand....

The media just gets pissed off that we draft players differently than their mock drafts.

Fact is: since the new regime came in, we have been right more than they have.

I could really care less if Todd McShay thinks that Brown was a reach. Boo hoo. If he is our guy, then he is our guy.

I like who we picked and where we picked them except Brown in 1st and Brinks in the 7th. I hope RS and Co. did their homework on Brown because if he pans out this could be our best haul overall. Adibi may be the missing ingredient to finding a defense to beat the passing game of Indy. Love Adibi.

I don't understand why they are banging jake . I really don't. I guess everyone is POed that they didn't go down the HWSNBN road. Tuna always drafts prety well.

I really liked our draft - Brown wasn't my favorite pick, but I'm okay with it, and I loved the rest of it. This is very similar to the way I came out of the '06 draft fwiw. If my evaluation of Brown (good not great) is as spot on as my evaluation of Mario (wanted Reggie), then we're in good shape.

It's now the Tuesday after the draft. What I thought of the draft no longer matters. What you thought of the draft no longer matters. What Mel Kiper, Mike Mayo, Todd McShay, Rich Gosselin, Lance Zierlein, John Harris, Sports Illustrated, CBS, The Houston Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, USA Today, My Uncle Paul, your Aunt Alice, and heck, Gary Kubiak, Rick Smith, Alex Gibbs, and Bob McNair thought of the draft doesn't matter.

It's done. Get them in mini camp, get them in training camp, get them in pre-season, get them in a real game and a real season and see what we've got.

C'mon September 7th - you can't get here soon enough.

Well said.

September ... I like the transition period of camp , pre-season , and then the regular season . I'll just wait and let the anticipation build .... you can't have premature ... well you know .

To me the season starts at training camp. In fact, that's really one of my favorite times of the year. The first preseason game is August 9th. That's just over three short months from now!

Same. I love seeing our guys in pads around training camp. That's when I get really excited.

Dr. Z gives Miami the best grade of the draft. sounds good to me, insanely refreshing to hear something like that

1st overall pick of the draft & you select Jake Long - C
Phillip Merling is a value pick, a run stuffing LDE -B
Chad Henne, QB you just never know, Michigan ties - C
Kendall Langford is a freakish athlete, great prospect but unproven @ a tough postion, RDE - B
yawn on all the rest - C

hardly the best draft IMO, question for Texans fans, "would you trade our draft for Miami's? who they took, had 1st overall pick, top picks throughout & extra pick going in even though the Texans selection was #18 didn't have a 2nd or a 6th, bear in mind the cap hit as well........... didn't think so.

Kast that Belgian Beer does some strange things but make best draft class thats a new one :wesmantexanfan:
