Should the NFL move the Draft out of New York

I saw ESPN analysts, who we know are truly fair and unbiased, tell the viewers that it should stay in New York. In fact there were 5 media types in the discussion and only one thought it should be moved.

Some of the reasons it should stay:
-It is tradition to watch Jets and Giants fans in force at the Draft
-Tradition of being in New York every year
-Trips/tours to central park for the players

I am of the opinion it should be moved around from NFL town to NFL town each year. Give different cities a chance to host the event.
 
They should move it to the city that has the #1 pick each year (or the team with the worst record if the #1 was traded) that way those fans could come out in full force and have some excitement after having such a crappy season.

I like that, but then the selfish side says that I don't want Houston to ever be that crappy team again and I would like to see it come to H-town.

i like the idea of there being a rotation similiar to the Super Bowl, and cities each year can campaign to get it. and there will be more options since the Super Bowl is only going to be in a warm city or city with a dome.
 
I see no reason to keep it in New York every year. Why not rotate it around a bit and allow different cities to compete for it? I would certainly make the trip to Houston to party it up should it ever be located there.
 
I've been a card-carrying member of the "Move The NFL Draft on a Rotating Basis" club for quite some time.

While NY is a great place, I think there would be even more excitement generated if it were to be moved around the country. Each city has something to offer in terms of accomodations and sightseeing (well, maybe not Jacksonville), so it could be an even bigger event than it already has become.

Also, this ticket mayhem that results when it's free is ridiculous. Charge people to see the draft and get some of those ***** Jets fans outta there!

That said, unless Goodell spearheads a change, I don't think anything will happen.

I agree with you sam, or i would just have it in the superbowl champs city from the previous year.

I think this is an outstanding idea.

Taking a step back, I absolutely support rotating the draft around now that the contract with RCMH has expired.

I do worry about the logistics about #1pick hosting. Would 4.5 months be enough runway for the NFL to plan the venue etc?

Agree in principle -- the idea may need some work. I have to believe that a city would bend to make accommodations for the NFL, but it is kinda hard to call up the Shiners. "yeeeeeah. about that convention hall you reserved 3 years ago for this April..."

definitely can't give it to the city of the team with the worst pick as an automatic thing, that could create problems. let the cities that want it ask and campaign for it.

I dunno Kastofsna...would that be a big money maker like say the superbowl?
 
I can't find it right now but there was an article a few days ago about moving the draft around to different cities. I don't remember if it was a blog or an actual legit article

More changes could come to the draft next year, as the NFL's current contract with New York City's Radio City Music Hall expires after this season.

Originally held in Philadelphia from 1958 to 1961 and held in Chicago from 1962-64, the draft moved to New York City in 1965. It moved from Madison Square Garden to Radio City Music Hall in 2006, and there have been rumblings the NFL is considering moving the event on the road.

USA Today reported that Disney, the parent company of ESPN, made a push to have the draft in Orlando, Fla., in 2004.

Potential sites of interest include Canton, Ohio, site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as Cleveland and San Diego.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league has not yet closed the door on New York.

"This is the final year of our contract with Radio City, but we have not ruled out other options," Aiello said.

Kiper said he likes the energy of New York City, but wasn't overly concerned about changing the home base.

"You go where you have to go," Kiper said. "It wouldn't matter to me one way or another."

i like this idea... but i'd be for putting it in a random city every year... similar to the superbowl.
 
Hell, with the way things are going, might as well have it in London, or Mexico City or Tokyo.
