What is Sage's value?--Sage Frustrated

I don't know that I'd say that's fair. Could trading Sage backfire on us if Matt got hurt? Yes, of course it could. I can only speak for myself and a relative handful of people who I have heard express this sentiment but I would not complain about the trade after the fact if this put us in a bad spot on the short term. It's a calculated risk and I know it. The handful of other people I've spoken with about this also seem to understand the way it works. I "believe" that most Texans fans talking about trading Sage to improve the team in other places understand that you take your chances and that there could be down side to any deal.

Some people are going to complain no matter what the Texans do. I have a pretty good feel for the board (I think) and I don't see all the people who climb out on a ledge at the first sign of a problem over on the "Trade Sage!" side. I think they're pretty evenly distributed. There are plenty of knee jerks over on the "Start Rosenfels!" side too.
To add to your response to CND; here is a scenario. Green has not recovered pre-injury form and to save $3.8 million Texans cut him June 1st. Taylor shows no more than he did pre-injury. Surprises some as he has reached his maximum and will be at most a back up. Brown injures himself ala Green in first part of season. Texans draft pick @ RB (fill in your fav) has not worked out as expected (or has not recovered from toe surgery); TT board lights up with why did we not re-sign Ron Dayne who did so well 2nd half of 2007.

My point is anything can happen and you figure the odds and risks and make a decision. Anyone can 2nd guess anything. Like managment has said, move to make team better will be done.

You’ve got a significant question mark at the QB position. You’ve got Schaub who is a significant question mark, IF for no other reason than his health. You’ve got Quinn who is a significant question mark at backup QB, let alone if called upon at starter. You’ve Rosenfels who is a proven backup QB and has performed in an fairly impressive fashion as a starter. You get rid of Rosenfels at this point and your left with only question marks.

When building a team you try to MAINTAIN at all positions while building on your foundation, i.e., IMPROVING in as many positions
as you can. You try not to back step on any..................especially one of your most important.....and your QB position is just that.

We’ve seen what a compromised QB performance can do to the development of an entire team.

Gus Frerotte-QB- Vikings Apr. 8 - 11:26 pm et
Gus Frerotte says the Vikings informed him that he will not be in the mix to compete with Tarvaris Jackson this offseason.
The Vikings appear committed to opening the season with Jackson as their starter. Frerotte has spent little time in a West Coast offense in his career, so he'll likely be a step behind Jackson anyways when training camp begins.

Looks like a pointless signing to me. They may end up giving up a 2nd on draft day or regretting not doing so. Rosenfels is way better than either QB they have and could most likely get them over the hump to the playoffs. That is a good deal for a 2nd round pick.

I wonder how much Ferrotte got to sign. If it isn't to much, they may just swing at Sage on draft day anyway. If I were the Vikes, I would NOT want to start the season with just those two at QB. Is Bud Adams running the Vikes now......sure looks like something stupid that he would pull.

the smart thing to do is let things play along into the season to see how Schaub looks & if the new ZBS does a better job in protection. I really like Gray, think he can do similar job in the back-up role to Matt so then when teams need a QB & come calling, as you know they will, the Texans can trade from a position of strength for a 2nd rd. pick in 09.

imagine going for two years without a 2nd rd. pick to having two #2's :)

Maybe I missed something but why does the thread title say "Sage Frustrated"?

Because a short time back Sage mentioned in an interview that it was frustrating not being "the guy" and that he'd like to lead a team and not just be the backup. I am probably getting that wrong but it was something along those lines. He made it sound to me like he'd rather be starting somewhere than backing up here. At about that time the "Frustrated" part appeared on the end of the thread title.

vet minimum... i see the frerotte signing as a nothing signing really.. nobody wanted him. maybe the vikes thought we might make a counter offer if we heard they were signing someone at qb..

i still think sage for a 2nd goes down on draft day

Brian Brohm visited with the Vikes today according to Schefter.

'Sage Frustrated' was the best Megan Manfull could come up with during open media day on April 3 (not like it was breaking news or anything). I preferred reading the other 5 1/2 pages of quotes that were transcribed by Nick and co. that day.

Hadn't seen that. There's some really good stuff in there. Jacques Reeves has a lot to say. Apparently Dr. Andrews has given Dunta some indication that it's plausible for him to make it back just after the first month of the season, so that wasn't just Dunta talking a big game.

Reeves made a comment that brought up a question. How did he do when Dallas played Indy?

They didn't play Indy this year. They played the Patriots and he had 5 tackles and one pass defensed. I don't know how well he played overall.

OTOH, Brady threw for 388 yards and the Patriots scored 48 points. So it doesn't appear to be a stellar day for the Dallas D.

Yeah but they played INDY in the 06 Season. Remember all the Cowboy fans making a big stink how they were the first to beat INDY?

I don't think he played. He doesn't show up on the defensive stat line although I do see someone that could have been him playing on special teams but he didn't get credit for that tackle.
