BSofA04's First Annual Mock Draft

BSofA04

Veteran
***Updated*** 3/17
After a month of trades and FA's, it's a good time to make my first annual mock draft. My only rule is that I assume no trades are made in Round 1. I hate looking at mock drafts with preposterous trades so I just eliminate them all together. Let me know what you think...

1. Miami - Chris Long, DE Virginia
2. St. Louis - Jake Long, OT Michigan
3. Atlanta - Matt Ryan, QB Boston College
4. Oakland - Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas
5. Kansas City - Ryan Clady, OT Boise State
6. New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE Ohio St.
7. New England - Leodis McKelvin, CB Troy
8. Baltimore - Glenn Dorsey, DT LSU
9. Cincinnati - Keith Rivers, LB USC
10. New Orleans - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB TSU
11. Buffalo - Sedrick Ellis, DT USC
12. Denver - Chris Williams, OT Vanderbilt...:crying:
13. Carolina - Rashard Mendenhall, RB Illinois
14. Chicago - Malcolm Kelly, WR Oklahoma
15. Detroit - Aqib Talib, CB Kansas
16. Arizona - Jonathan Stewart, RB Oregon
17. Minnesota - Derrick Harvey, DE Florida
18. Houston - Branden Albert, OL Virginia
19. Philadelphia - Jeff Otah, OL Pittsburgh
20. Tampa Bay - DeSean Jackson, WR Cal
21. Washington - Kenny Phillips, FS Miami
22. Dallas - Felix Jones, RB Arkansas
23. Pittsburgh – Gosdner Cherilus OT Boston College
24. Tennessee – Limas Sweed, WR Texas
25. Seattle – Fred Davis, TE USC
26. Jacksonville - Philip Merling, DE Clemson
27. San Diego - Kentwan Balmer, DT UNC
28. Dallas – Antoine Cason, CB Arizona
29. San Francisco - Quentin Groves, OLB/DE Auburn
30. Green Bay – Mike Jenkins, CB South Florida
31. New York Giants - Dan Connor, LB Penn St.

Round 1
Brandon Albert, OG Virginia
PH2005092802427.jpg

Could project as a LT, but would be solid at RG from day 1. Very quick on his feet, great lateral movement, solid punch, this guy is the real deal. Albert and Winston on the right side would be solid. A can't miss pick.
Round 3
Tony Hills, OT Texas
477843.jpg

The franchise LT the Texans are hoping for. We address LT in the 3rd primarily because the top 3 were taken before we drafted in Round 1. Despite coming off a season ending surgery at UT, Hills will be able to participate in OTA's and will learn from Salaam. Won't see major action until week 8 of 2008.
Round 4
Terrell Thomas, CB USC
Pinkard+2006+opener.JPG

A very solid corner from a big-time program, he's the next future CB taken in the 4th round. Being groomed as a nickleback in 2008, he gets significant playing time in 2008 due to need. A big CB with long arms and sub 4.5 speed, he's got the tools to solidify our secondary.
Round 5
Tashard Choice, RB Georgia Tech
t1_choice.jpg

A solid pick, Choice has the running style the Texans are looking for (one cut and go). He plays much faster on the field than he timed in the combine. Nearly had back-to-back 1,400+ yard seasons with Georgia Tech. Could be the dark horse in the Texans running game that'll make the opening day roster.
Round 6
Traded to the Broncos for starting C Chris Meyers.
Round 7
Tommy Blake, DE TCU (If available)
t1_blake.jpg

The surprising pick of the draft, Blake was chosen by the Texans after he convinces the coaching staff that he has the tools to become an elite pass-rusher at the next level. Despite his diagnosis of social anxiety disorder and being bi-polar, he'll surround himself with solid role models in the Texan defense and will love playing close to his home in Aransas Pass. An instant starter and a pleasant surprise in 2008.
OR
Curtis Johnson, LB Clark-Atlanta
A project SAM LB, he's a top D-II sleeper that's the definition of a play maker. He's nearly 6'3", 242 lbs. runs a 4.70 40, 18.5 sacks in two years. I have a feeling about some prospects, this guy is one of them.

looks pretty good, lot of work I know :heat:

I guess the key draft pick to unravel the whole 1st rd. the one event that could sckew everything is "who will select Matt Ryan"? is he a franchise QB or does he slide, much lower than expected?

I like most all the players you have around the Texans pick. also couldn't help but notice you went OL in 1st & 3rd rd. :)

Terrell Thomas, CB USC in 4th & Tashard Choice, RB Georgia Tech in 5th would be highway robbery.

More defensive help in the 6th & 7th rounds, yeah I could live with that.

Yeah, I'm all about us solidifying our o-line once and for all.

I'm with you on Matt Ryan, that guy is THE unknown. Probably a reach but unless Atlanta selected him at #3, he could go #6 to the Jets or #8 to the Ravens.

17. Minnesota - Derrick Harvey, DE Florida
18. Houston - Branden Albert, OL Virginia

eventhough i like albert alot- that hurts.. if sage gets traded i hope we swap 1sts with the vikes too in case harvey lands at #17

as far as the rest of the draft, i like it but i think you have both tashard and blake at least a round too low

Or the bigger question is arthur Blank prepaired to break out the check book once again and spend another eighty million on another can't miss QB....I dunno about that one. See the HWSNBN/Harrington story in the front lobby. Hotlanta is already set back five years with Vick...might as well really gamble and force a top fifteen tallent with the three. What's five more in years in the NFC South hell hole hey ?

I like your Texan's picks. The whole value of this draft is which Tommy Blake are you drafting ? No one will know that one for a few seasons.
Take the best OG off the board with the eighteen, Briliant !!! That dude Gets by the Steelers....need meets value.

I keep seeing this....couple that with what they have done in Free agency....WTF are you going to do with Weaver's contract ? They don't have the cap room to cut the guy...got it ? Spend how many millions on the pick and eat how much on Weaver contract ?

where's the marching band pict ?

My 2 cents on your Texans picks. I'm ok with 1st and 3rd rounds but may be too early for Hills. That's cool as it locks in a LT that should do well in ZBS. However if Heath Benedict were to be available in 4th or if Hills drops that low, that is where I pick my LT.

My selections for picks without trade;
1. Have pushed Stewart but injury makes me leery, so Mike Jenkins as your mock says he'll be there. I doubt strongly but see Cason there and ready to play day one.

3. Forte may be gone but I think he will be there. If not I'd go Choice as you have him way too late in 5th.
4. Heath Benedict LT 6'5" 326 BUT 5.07 and good feet. Hills would be a good alternate if there and he might be.
5. Tyvon Branch a CB 6'0" 200lbs 4.31 2 deep type "as difficult to change directions" but solid hitter that may play FS better.NFLdraftscout has him moving up but I think he will settle back to 5th round. Very good K.R.

If neither Mendenhall or Cris Williams there @ #18, I am hoping for a trade down. I really liked Stewart as a franchise type back but unsure if Kubes will wait for his foot to heal.

No Sedrick Ellis in the 1st?
Mock fixed and updated. I felt like I was seeing double by the time I was done with the mock, it was inevitable that I'd miss someone. Thanks for the heads up.

And thanks for the responses to my mock. Maybe a little wishful thinking on some picks but in the last two years we've seen some solid talent drop, especially in the middle rounds. I can't wait to till the draft gets here!

we can cut him.. it 'll be costly enough but we DO have the cap to do it.. dont know why you think we dont? #18 pick doesnt get paid much comparatively speaking and it is one of our biggest needs. we also have the room to keep him for another yr as depth
