Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

I think he should be the guy if we like to play bump and run coverage plus he is 6'1 185 that is big enough for me.

Thought I heard somewhere (NFL Network, ESPN...???) that Cromartie was going to be much much more of a project than most of the other top CB's.

I've heard that from a friend of mine at the combine. He is making connections at the combine this year, and was talking to some scouts, they said that DRC is a huge project.

They said they same about the other Cromartie, the one from FSU.

Not really...they never said he was a project player. He was just a questionable one because he had his injury, and nobody had seen him play since the injury. He was dominant against top level players his freshman and sophomore year.

Two completely different situations. Everybody knew Cromartie could do it, it was just about if his injury was going to hamper his play.

No matter how good you may have been as a freshmen, when you enter the NFL with about a year's worth a NCAA college expeirence you are a project.

Now, DRC may be a bigger project, but Cromartie (FSU) was a porject and it took him some time to be able to play at the level of his talent.

Cromartie(FSU) played his freshman and sophomore years both. He sat the whole junior season after a knee injury. He had two years of experience at a high level. Not to mention he was starting games halfway through his freshman year. I think it just took Cromartie a few years to get the confidence in his leg again. He had a pretty serious knee injury. Plus he had to try and break the starting lineup (Jammer and Florence were starting) which he did not do until something like halfway(edit) through this year. And that was after he got a few INTs in a game working the slot. Then Rivera obviously felt like it was time to let him try and start. Considering he was already starting to change games from the nickel back position.

Another edit: The game he had multiple INTs in that he did not start was against non other than the Houston Texans. Remember, he ran one back?

You're right about how much Cromartie (FSU) played.

So what makes DRC such a huge project? And is it stuff that cannot be fixed by coaches...cause I promise you DRC is going in the first round.

I think the question regarding Cromartie is, do you draft based on potential or who can step in now? Kubiak took Mario & Okoye based more on potential, so I would think that selecting Cromartie would not be a problem.

The bigger question is, does Cromartie even make it to #18, after this display? I'm thinking it's not very likely.

I dunno what does. This is something that a friend told me that a scout told him. That is just what I heard. But I can see it because for one, he hasn't played against top level competition throughout his career. That should be enough to keep teams a little worried about his transition to the pros.

I like DRC. I think he will easily go in the first round now. He is arguably the most athletic corner in this draft. But it's the lack of legit competition that is the question about him. That can really hurt him, especially in this draft, when most of these other top corners are pretty well experienced.

I'm not worried about his level of competition, some kids are late bloomers, in Rodgers-Cromartie case is a converted track guy who walked on the football team. look, either the guy can play or he can't. Dominique has the highest ceiling of the 08 cb class (combination of speed, size & wignspan) now his personel workouts & interview process will be the key determining factors.

Yea, I agree with that. It's just about how long you think it will be for the guy to adjust and produce, and if your willing to wait that long, or if you would like a guy that you know can come in and produce right away. Some teams just don't have the luxury of waiting, and the Texans are one of them. I just hope he is ready.

After his performance today at the combine he might be the first DB off the board. I would love to have him or McKelvin out of Troy but I still think if we can make a deal and pick up a secound round pick we gotta go for it. There is a ton of RB tanlent in the draft this year and some good DB's who could help next year.

I agree with both of these completely. I think he has the most potential out of all the CB's. I have a couple problems with Cromartie at #18 though.

(1) His look/body- He doesn't look like a football player, he looks like a track star. Part of that could be because he is like 6'1. He HAS to add on more weight to be effective on the Texans (or most any team) because he will be needed in run support. If he can add on and get closer to 200lbs without losing 'on-field' speed, he would be perfect here, imo. Get him in the weight room, eating right, etc and he could fill out great.

(2) Project- He's more of a project than the other CB's. I think he will have a much harder time coming in and starting for us than some of the other corners like Jenkins or Cason. Not that he would be a bad pick because of his ceiling but as the #18 overall pick you expect them to come in right away.

We don't good access to understand his intelligence, play recognition, football smarts, Interview with the teams, etc that are a VERY very crucial part to the selection process. He could very well be the pick for us and that's great- he's just nowhere near as polished as some other CB's and other players that will be available at an area of NEED. Texans should be able to answer my thoughts and will have to if he's a consideration at 18.

His measurables are off the charts though- he had a GREAT Combine and Senior Bowl. I think he probably helped himself more than any other player in the draft.

I've seen enough to convince me a number of NFL teams will fall in love with his upside & make Rodgers-Cromartie a high 1st rd. pick. Antonio Cromartie was the 19th pick & that was coming off a torn acl, all he did this past season was evolve into the best cb in the NFL, heck we witnessed his transformation process first hand. if the Texans passed on a talent like that who addressed their #1 need this offseason it would be very, very hard to justify in my own mind.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is an ascending talent. while not a finished product I would still expect results sooner than later, I'm penciling him in now as high as #15 to Detroit.

well just checked some mock draft sites & already it seems his outstanding Senior Bowl followed with blowing away the entire cb class @ the combine has created a buzz. http://www.draftdaddy.com/MD/MDstat.cfm

08. Baltimore Ravens - CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State

"Cromartie was the defensive MVP of the Senior Bowl . With workouts coming, this sprint champ could fly up the board"

Who among us really thought when Bennett was drafted he would be a starter? That is why I am so pumped about the Kubes/ Ric Smith brain trust. Their scouts must be excellent.
