It's a good list. Though I would be surprised if Maryland LB Erin Henderson doesn't find his way into the 1st round.

Would anybody be willing to trade a 08 4th rd. pick & a 09 3rd pick to try & get a 2nd rd. pick this year. If not what does eveyone think it would take to get a 2nd rd. pick this year?

It's expensive. For example, Indy traded their 1st round pick this year for San Fran's 2nd round pick last year (top 10?) to get Tony Ugoh LT.

I think if a LT like Otah or whomever Kubiak really really covets and wants to make this trade. Rick Smith will have his work cut out for him.

Our #18 in the 3rd round is worth 180 points. We'd probably have to give up next years 2nd round pick also to get into this years 2nd round. ('08 3rd and '09 2nd for a low '08 2nd rd pick) If we had a 2nd round this year it'd be worth apprx. 400 points.

So going on that we'd give up 580 points to get Oaklands 2nd round pick point for point...that's not factoring "Time Value Draft Pick" (did i just make that up? hah). If I give you a $100 Bill today, you give me a $20 bill, I'm not expecting you to give me $80 next year to be equal....I would want more...say interest for example...same applies to draft picks.

So I'm guestimating we'd get about the #10 pick in the 2nd round give or take a few spots if we give up our 3rd and '09 2nd (and that's assuming we go 8-8 next year too)...

that's not something I'm willing to do...unless it's a franchise type of Left Tackle or a shutdown corner that didn't go in the first...or another demeco ryans type of player.

The best way to get picks for this draft is to trade away players on our roster for them.

If we could trade Weaver/Greenwood/Sage/Dayne or whomever for picks, that would probably be the best way of doing so.

Your not going to get much for any of those guys.

We would be lucky to get 5th rounders for those guys.

There all old, past their primes, and really just not that good anyways.

Can't keep refinancing. At some point the bill is due and we're going to have to pay. Might as well bite that bullet while is cheaper and hurts less.

if you noticed Andre Woodson is real close to the Texans pick. if he is available @ #18 & the Texans still own the pick. Atlanta who has two 2nd rd. picks (their own plus ours) might really want him to be their QB. while we would not have a 1st rd. pick that would give us two 2nds (early & mid). Still get a good tackle & RB or CB.

would you consider it?

with their second rounder next year yes.

I don't see any way we pick up a 2nd without trading down with our 1st.

There is one possibility that's been rattling around in my empty head for a while now. I read somewhere that San Francisco is in need of a pure rushing DE/OLB for their 34 defense. The one that is most likely to be there at #18 is Derrick Harvey. Assuming they do want that DE/OLB & all the others have been taken, would they be willing to give up the #30 (620 pts.) & #40 (510 pts.) for our #18 (900 pts.)? 1130 pts. for 900 pts. sounds about right to move up 12 spots in the first round. Of course, moving that far down would take us completely out of the running for any of the major LT's.

Also, Dallas has two #1's. Their #31 (600 pts.), #61 (292 pts.), & a #2 next year might be worth our #18 this year. Just some ideas to knock around.

I have mixed emotions. Two 2nds by the middle of the round would still offer us the ability to get a good RB and a decent LT. I focused on ALex Boone LT Ohio last night and I was impressed. This 6' 7" 325 looked better to me than Ryan Clady of Boise State did in the respective bowl games. A trade down for a first and a 2nd or even two firsts makes my mouth water. Still, Johnathan Stewart at 18, McGlynn LT in third, Cliff Avril OLB or a free safety such as Quentin Demps or Marcus Griffin would go down ok, too. I am hoping for a CB in FA & maybe a LB.

Imagine one of these being picked first in second round "Well, I am actually the 32nd pick in first round." That argument could go on forever.

I wonder if it would have any effect on the contract numbers of the #32. I doubt it, but it's interesting.

My point exactly. Each side would have a strong argument. It is actually the first pick in second round but is actually the 32 player selected. Depending on team and player/agent signing could be interesting. Still, I would not mind having the pick.

I'd love to get Conner, but I like Felix Jones as well

A trade down for Felix Jones in the 1st and Groves out of Auburn in the 2nd would be gold

When the NFL hands out the rookie salary pool numbers, they will treat the pick like the 1st pick in the 2nd round. Which it is. The player will get a 5%-10% increase from the 33rd player in '07, depending on the pool numbers. But, he won't get 1st round money.

This is always our hope as Texans when draft day rolls around that a higher rated player somehow falls to our pick. Its a long way until next April but when looking @ the big 3 QB prospects (Ryan, Brohm, Woodson) I beleive all three are franchise quality. Ryan is the most polished, has the mental make-up to lead a team, while Brohm is a better pure passer & more athletic, Woodson is the most talented but needs developed, as a matter of fact he reminds me alot of Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell who had his coming out party this season before being injured.

Remember in 2005 Washington traded up into the 1st rd. to get a QB (Campbell @ #25). in this case they traded their 1st & 4th future picks (06) & Denver also picked up an extra 3rd (05). Denver selected cb Karl Paymah (3rd-05) traded the 1st they got from Washington in 06 to San Francisco (#22) this allowed Denver to trade up to get their franchise QB Jay Cutler (#11). & yes here is the kicker. with that extra 4th rd. pick in the 06 draft the Broncos selected (#119) WR Brandon Marshall.

Campbell was projected to be a mid 2nd rd. pick. Woodson is projected to be a mid 1st rd. pick. you never know, right now its just speculation but the point is that it happens, the QB position is one of wide, diverse opinon/rating & if your a shrewd talent evaluator (Rick Smith was the assistant GM in Denver during this period before coming over to the Texans) you can address multiple needs all you need is one team who wants a specific player badly enough.

The best way to get picks for this draft is to trade away players on our roster for them.

If we could trade Weaver/Greenwood/Sage/Dayne or whomever for picks, that would probably be the best way of doing so.

Randy Moss only got a 4th round pick. So what are you going to get for an overpaid run stopper, A downfield tackling WILL, a backup only QB, or an UFA RB who is 30 year old.

Trading player in the NFL is difficult at best, rarely are 1st day picks given for players. QBs and CBs maybe the exception.

So we are still stuck with Casserly's bad signings for Weaver and Greenwood. (They are overpaid for what they do, not saying they are bad players, just overpaid).

Dallas is going to use their's to move up for McFaddin. I like your scenario though.

IF they are going to adress OLT and CB with the first two picks, from they way I read the boards...that's the only way they can do it. Move down then move back up into the second.

Like the Woodson scenrio there beerlover. Be too sweet to get our original 2 back.

And you left off the off brand Jenkins, Mike...if he does move past the first it would be more imperative for them to move down to get into the second teir CB range. There will be several of them there...but they won't be there in the third.

Not exactly the same but did not Bush's agent argue Reggie should be paid as if he was the #1 pick?

he is #29 on the board. was not the impressed with him as I thought I would be, got roughed up possibly injured in their bowl game.

I used to think that when New England had the #2 pick, but I've changed my position on that now. I can't see McFadden getting past Oakland or the Jets. I don't think St. Louis would be willing to trade down that far. So, that leaves Miami. Getting Miami's #1 pick from Parcells will be very expensive. Something like their 2) #1's, 2nd rounder, next year's #1, & a player like Carpenter. Perhaps, more.

I agree. If there is no deal for McFaddin....the board is set up for the jets to take the guy. Loaded with RT's and WRs. Developmental QBs....the board sets up well for the Jets to select McFaddin. Still say JJ makes the move. Big Al goes right behind him for Chrss Long..

I'm still of the thinking that it would not be wise of Dallas to give away as much as it's going to take just to get McFadden. Especially when this is a deep RB class and you're looking at getting Felix Jones, Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Stewart, etc if you stay put.

Felix Jones + late 1st rd pick + next years 1st rd pick >>>> Darren McFadden

Dallas should easily be able to have 3 quality/very talented STARTERS if they don't trade up for McFadden who would be sharing time with Barber anyways...I don't think it would be a wise trade but then again...I feel like I'm one in the minority.

That's the art of it isn't it. I think he is worth it. So exactly how many '07 draft picks stuck with the Cowpolkes in '07 ? I think J.J. gets his hands on the guy they go to four striaght SBs. What's the value of that ?

I'm with ya'. Unless JJ loses his mind, there's no way he pays the price necessary to move up to #1.

IMO we have to find a way to stay in the 1st and still trade for a 2nd. RB in the first Mendenhall or Stewart and BPA in the second. BPA in 2nd.

Interesting....how would people feel if we drafted a CB at #18 like McKelvin or Jenkins. and then a few picks later say #22 to Dallas- we traded our 2009 1st round pick to select Rashard Mendenhall or Jonathan Stewart???

I'm willing to trade out of the 1st rd. this year to aquire a high 2nd & extra 3rd. pick. even though you bring up a tempting proposal, I doubt McKelvin or Jenkins will be available #18.

The quality of value in the picks from 32 to 120 is prety good. However, you passed a couple of prety good picks in the expansion draft. And now at the moment of truth...you're going to waist the '09 draft to get at a propect ? I do not understnd this logic. You're over valueing the value of a decent Rb behind a mediocre offensive line. I can see a move back to bang the four holes. But pot luck, selecting two starters...then hoping you hit something at the back end of the draft sets the team on the path of mediocrity for another three seasons. The MS deal was going to sting no matter wat they did. Take your medicine and draft well with the ammo you have. Wanna Gamble ? Take the high end CB who just wrecked his knee with the seventh.
