Talib will be a top pick, a first rounder.
He has great size at 6'2 and about 208 off the top of my head. He is a very physical corner on the line and has no problems jamming the recievers. He was fine when matched against some of the more physical WR's KU faced. He has good speed, it's not going to wow you, but it is good. He is very aggressive when going for the ball, and that will at times cause him to get beat deep as seen by Jordy Nelson. Talib seems to love hitting people. His run support is the best I have seen from any college CB, and he does not miss tackles. He hits you in your legs and takes you down on the spot, just ask Bowman. His skills with the ball in the air seperate him from many CBs though. He led the NCAA in pass breakups last year, and even this year with his name on the "do not throw to list" made many big plays. He is multi-dimensional, often being used on offense ala Champ Bailey. He had 6 TD's this year, with 2 of those being INTs retured for a TD, including a 103 yard pick and run back. He is a vocal player, and he will let the opposing WR know he is going to shut him down, and he is almost always right. He might struggle when put on an island against a small and shifty WR if he is unable to jam at the LOS. It is weird, but his closing speed is amazing, but his makeup speed is just average.

I am more upset about Anthony Collins leaving however. He has been a rock for the KU offense. Most of the big runs this year, and there were plenty, were to the left side. He has prototypical size and is a very good overall OT. He projects to the left side. He does not make many mental mistakes. Collins will not be a first round LT, and will never be a Ogden/Pace dominant LT, but he will be a very servicable starter. He is likely a second rounder.

Talib will be a #1 CB on almost any team within a season or two. Talent wise, if Daunta comes back healthy, I think Talib would win the job in a year, talent wise. However, everyone has a man crush on Daunta and overlooks all the underneath passes or just passes in general that he allows to be caught.

Scenario: We draft Talib in the first round and have Talib #1 and Bennett #2 for all next season (Dunta doesn't make it back)...Next season goes by... Dunta comes back and is at 100% healthwise, however is not as fast as he was pre-injury...he's still healthy but not the same. Assume Bennett continues to play well and improve.
Question: How would this effect our secondary? (and no we aren't moving him to FS!) I'm not terribly familiar with strengths/weaknesses of these 3 players and how they would fit in the defense ie. #2 vs. Nickle back.
If this were to be the case I think I'd like to see a lot more looks with having 3 cb's on the field as much as possible barring running situations.
How does Bennett's game translate to a #2 CB vs the Nickle Back?
How would Dunta's recovery effect this, would Dunta be a great Nickle Back??
Sounds like you're a big JayHawk fan who knows this guy pretty well ?
What kind of a pass-blocker is he ? Is he very athletic, good feet, moves
well or his more of a a run-blocker who does have some problems with handling elite pass-rushers ?

Let's say this happens. We have these three guys. Bennet improves from this year; Talib comes in and plays well. Dunta isn't what he used to be because of the injury.
Well, Dunta is a great hitter who's got speed. He's got ball skills. Move him to FS. His problem is going to be size but that hasn't exactly stopped Bob Sanders from being a force.

I go to KU, and have watched every game. Collins has a quick slide step and moves well enough in space. He isn't a "mauling" type of OT, more of one that can seal the edge or the hole. He isn't really a drive blocker. He will lunge occasionally. He is very good with the pass rush. Our QB was sacked under 20 times all year.
Drob is 5'10 170ish
Bob Sanders is 5'8 206
Two inches shorter and weighing 35lbs more is a big difference. Drob is not going to be a FS.

Exactly, thanks. DROB is a punishing hitter for a CB, shoot probably for a S as well, but it is not a good idea to consistently have him tackling TE's and RB's. He's not near heavy enough to take the pounding throughout the season.

Being 170# isn't a big problem. He can add 20-30 pounds of mostly muscle on the right program pretty easily.
If we draft a cornerback (or bring in a corner in FA) and DRob misses most of next year and then comes back and we've got 2-3 corners who are better, then his best option might be bulking up... if he wants to see the field.

You guys are acting like he has to add height. He's already taller than Bob Sanders and he can add muscle. And on the right training program, he could even get bigger AND faster.

That's the opposite of what I was trying to say, sorry if it was confusing. Height is no problem for me it's his weight that I would be worried about with him at FS. I also think it would be very difficult for him to add that much weight (15% of current weight).

I didn't misunderstand about the height, I was making a point about the height. If his height is a problem, then there's not much he can do about it. It is what it is.
But 30#, he's 5' 10" and 170#. He can add 30#. All that takes is a decent training routine and lots of calories. Have him come to the gym with me for a couple of months and I'll put it on him.

Maybe, maybe not.
I have real trouble believing that someone who is 5' 10" is at their best weight when they're only 170#.
There's a possibility that his lack of muscle is actually holding him back.

It's great for the Texans...Judging by thier history, they should have their choice of Collins, Hills, or one of the front line guards in the third round. If they are really lucky..... Collins is good enough to put Salaam back at swing tackle....where his thirtysomething legs belong.
Now if Oher declares...you take him at 18....no ifs ands or buts.

The only game Collins struggled was the Mizzu game when he had an injured ankle. Like I said, probably a late second/early third right now. He has starter potential, but I think he should have stayed another year.
