Potential Cornerbacks...

Ole Miss Texan

Hall of Fame
Well, I'm in panic mode again...I'm not gonna lie. Seem to me Dunta is done not only this season but I would suspect the rest of the following season as well.

So who are some cornerbacks that we potentially could select? I view them as similar to Offensive Linemen. Just b/c one is projected to go really high doesn't mean he would be a good fit for our team.

So we have two options:
(A) select a CB that fits our defensive/secondary scheme
(B) change the defensive/secondary scheme for a player like Asanti Samuel

In thinking of a cb for our team, I visualize a player with good size, good speed, and good ball skills. A player that plays up on the line of scrimmage with the WR. That runs w/ him the entire time, may even bump him at the line, plays the man and then reacts to the ball when its in the air. Basically I want....we all want a shut down corner.

***next post to have players/rankings/etc***

what does each player bring to the table??

Mike Jenkins had a very good game against Cincinnati. showed a lot more physicality that a lot of folks thought to be missing from his game.

Talib has been playing very good this year. He lead the nation in pass breakups last year, and has played 2 ways this year for the #4 team in the nation. I've seen him give up 2 TD's this year. Once he was burned, the other was just a perfect throw. He plays the run like Daunta, but he can actually play the pass better than an undersized SS.

Malcolm Jenkins is my first choice. He's arguably the best cover corner in the draft, he's got the size and speed and by all accounts I've read he's a leader and the most NFL-ready.

Mike Jenkins is another guy I like, but I'd take Stewart or Clady over him.

Well I'm numbers guy. Little guys like Dante who play rough and tumble and can tackle are very hard to find. Give me the Jenkin's guys. I was thinking about this when we voted in the other thread. Anything that looks good on game tape and runs 4.4, and can support the run I'm all for. So are we in the move down mode again or do we take our chances on Db in the fourth round again ? Asante had prety fair game tonight but is he worth seventy million ? I dunno. Are we going to give Dante's money to Samuels ?

I didn't know what it would be that would prevent us from taking an o-line guy high again this year.
But I would of bet money there would be something come up.

Tracy Porter, Indiana in the 3rd. fluid hips, size & speed.

Antoine Cason, Arizona in the 2nd if Rick Smith can trade down.

Reggie Smith, Oklahoma in the 1st although I think his natural position is FS.

Yea, he had a great game. I really like Mike Jenkins. That kick return really shows you his speed.

I thought Trae Williams had a pretty up and down day. He gave up a few big catches and plays but he also returned a pick for 6.

yeah and Jenkins just looks like a total natural. pretty good mechanics and fundamentals, too. doesn't like chasing a guy down and tackling him, though. sure he loves to put a big hit on a guy on a bubble screen (had two huge ones yesterday). luckily this isn't a huge concernfor corners.
