Texans Prospects: BC at VT

Ole Miss Texan

Hall of Fame
Okay, I DVR'd the Boston College/Virginia Tech game and just started watching..(its probably start of the 2nd qtr live?)

Who are some prospects to watch for (For our team) that may be in the 2008 draft?

Gosder Cherilous, LT for VTech seems to have some hype to him, but I've read that he may be better suited for RT in the NFL.

Any others we should keep an eye on (positions/names)

Thanks!

OMT, Gosder plays for BC. The LT for VT is Duane Brown. He's not ranked as high as Cherilus (projected 4th round) but check him out. One write up said he would be perfect for the ZB system. He's listed at 6'5", 300 lbs, 4.95 in the 40.

Ah thanks for the catch...didn't mean to write that. I was wondering about VT because of drafting Brandon Frye last year. Same with Jeff Otah from pittsburgh...with us drafting Spencer.

Spencer had a prety fair forty time if I remeber correctly. This guy is in the 5.3's.
Loadholt with OU is in the same range. Think powerful but quick. Watched the Carolina St. OLT guy twice. He just doen't have prototypical size. Hampton is supposed to have a couple of day two DE's and he had a great game against them. Had a great game against Fla. A & M also.

Those are good numbers. They go back to back with a couple of prospects on day two, I could live with that. But remeber, they got to play Vandenbosch and Freeny/Mathis twice a year. Is good good enough in our division ? If they draft a high end guy for RT, they are gambling on Winston making the switch over the off season. Be the fifeth o-line scramble over five years.

It was a great comeback for BC, but I still think they get blown out by a team like LSU or Florida.

TTP, I can't remember Spencer's time in the 40, but 2 of the reports I've seen on Jeff Otah have him running a 5.24 (Walterfootball.com) and a 5.36 (NFL Draft Scout). I don't know where any of these reports get their info from, but he may still be someone to keep an eye on, at least until he runs the 40 at the Combine. NFL Draft Scout has him rated the 5th best OT, but they don't include any underclassmen on their list.

Others to keep an eye on that may fit the ZB scheme are:
-Tony Hills, Texas, 6'6", 305 lbs, 40 time- 4.99
-Chad Rinehart, Northern Iowa, 6'5", 308 lbs, 40 time- 5.08
-Max Unger, Oregon, 6'5", 306 lbs, 40 time- 5.04 (underclassman)
-Duane Brown, VT, 6'5", 290 lbs, 40 time- 4.99
-Corey Clark, Texas A&M, 6'6", 317 lbs, 40 time- 5.07
-Jeremy Zuttah, Rutgers, 6'4", 290 lbs, 40 time- 5.06 (a little slow for his size)

As stated before, I don't know where these reports get the stats on these players, so alot will probably change between now and the Combine and the Draft. But, it's fun to speculate anyway. :shades:
