The draft, in order to make it more fan- (and TV-) friendly, will be changed. Teams will have 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes in the first round to make a choice (later rounds will also be shaved) in a move that could be announced as early as next week’s league meetings

Please make this happen. The draft is already way to long, but then again I do catch just about every pick either by TV or radio.

Yikes, the phrase "get a life" makes sense now. :) Too bad it ended with Ted Ginn's name being called out! Hope it all works out for you
 
A standing ovation is in order. I think this is a great move. The first round is entirely too long.

A man who takes his NFL Draft seriously. For sure.
So how is TG doing with your team ?
Were you mildly surprised by his pick by Miami, or totally shocked and if you had another choice, who was that ?
 
definitely shocked, expected Quinn. as did everyone.

Ginn has looked great against Houston and Cleveland. had a TD return against Cleveland, but twas called back by a holding play. also had a 60 yarder against Cleveland, also called back. i'd expect no less from Miami this year.

It was interesting the way that part of the draft went down. My first gut response to your post was to say "No biggie we would have taken Patrick Willis" but seems like I also remember a lot of "experts" saying Houston was high on Ginn and would have taken him if Miami didn't. While Ginn may develop into a stud, I'm really glad that scenario didn't play itself out.
 
Houston loved Ginn. they took the next best thing in Jacoby Jones later on, but they wanted Ginn. and why not? ridiculously talented.

speaking of ridiculous talent, i'm not too upset about Miami missing out on Okoye, we've got a nice eye on Glenn Dorsey.

ESPIN never ever gets anything wrong and never would promote a guy for a team and be completely dead wrong.

I do not think Houston loved Ginn as much as you make it out to sound that at #10 they would have drafted a guy they could not even workout because of injuries. Not to mention WR was and is not as a glaring need as other positions.

Like would be a better word than love if anything.

That was conjecture on his part:

Very likely and no source or even mention of having talked to anyone with the Texans=conjecture.

It was before training camp. We took Jacoby Jones in the third round.

I think Houston would have taken Ginn with the 10th pick. Good thing it worked out like it did.

Are you saying WR was as a glaring need as say Safety, Oline, or a DT that can actually produce (except for scheming as of late)?

I just would not see the Texans doing that.

I seem to remember plenty of posters who thought that our #1 or 2 need was WR.
 
WR wasn't quite a glaring need for Miami at the time, either. and, DT wasn't as much for Houston, for that matter. hard to justify that excuse.

i just go with what makes sense. not just Schefter reporting it, but the drafting of Jones confirms it.

Me too. I think if you're not in to the draft nick angle the shear art of the draft, the high stakes poker game that it is, you would think that it is like watching paint dry. I like it the way it is. Not just guessing who the best player is but where they should be slotted and which team has done the best job of slotting their board. One of the reasons the NFL enjoys the domanace over the other sports is because of the way the draft is radically different from the others. Drama in every pick. Heartbreak in every stud who slides. I love it.

You mark me a link there Santo when Denver has ever taken a smurff Wr with
a top ten pick the last twenty years. A guy who didn't see a route he didn't love to break off and go tonto. And a coach who depends on his WRs to be on time and on target with timing patterns every play ? I wanna see that one. I don't believe Ginn Jr was ever on their board. If Okoye hadn't of fallen to them they were prepared to move down with Denver.
 
Sorry, no link, but ESPN is reporting next years draft will have the first round shortened from 15 mins, down to 10 mins. The 2nd round will be reduced to 7 mins from the previous 10 mins. All other rounds will be 5 mins.

Hope our boys can work well under pressure!

DRAFT WILL STAY ON SATURDAY

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFL will reduce round one of the draft from 15 minutes per team to ten minutes, but that the move will not result in a shift (unfortunate typo narrowly averted) of round one to Friday night.

Per Mort, the draft will start a bit later on Saturday than noon in the East.

Mort also says that round two will drop from ten minutes to seven, and that all other rounds will entail only five minutes, as the practice has been.

I am a draft geek as much as anyone else on here, but I think this is a good move. It promotes diligence and homework on behalf of teams. Teams have less time to debate, forcing them to go with the homework they've done on a prospect. However, this is less time to orchastrate a trade.

I hate it when a top talent falls, and all we hear about is team X not having any information on him because they figured he wouldn't fall to them. That is bull freaking you know what. You scout everyone, regardless of where they "might" go. Hell, consider it a scouting report for when you play them too, because most likely the top guys are going to start from day 1.
 
The only change I'm not sure that I like is the start of the draft at 3 pm EST on Saturday...but I can deal with that.
 
it affects contracts, too. agents talk about their guys being "first day picks" to get better contracts, but now that the 3rd in on day 2...i don't know.

I don't see why the draft set up couldn't stay like it is, especially with cutting time already. 3rd round picks are still very important picks to teams. A lot of teams expect to get starters out of the 3rd, either initially, or players they feel can be ready in a season or so.
 
3rd round on day two is just dumb. when people complained about the length of the draft, they were only referring to the first round. because that's all the average person will watch. if someone is watching the 3rd round, they're watching it no matter what day it is, and they're not complaining about the length of the overall draft, that's for sure.
 
So they are reducing the time for each pick in the 1st and 2nd round...AND moving the 3rd round to the following day. wow...just wow.

Seems there must be some planning going on as to what's going on TV after the 1st day draft. I agree this is just dumb.

The only good part is that teams now have extra time to prepare for those 3rd round picks...going through to see who's still available. Like yall said...there are still quality starters in the 3rd round so the coaches/gm's/etc now have extra time to come up with New mocks for the 3rd rd and beyond.

I still don't like this at all. I like them reducing the time for each pick but with doing that they could have even given teams a 20 minute break before going on to the 3rd round! saturday is going to go fast...sunday will now take a LOOONNGG time.
 
I like that they shortened the time limit on each round but they should have left the start of the draft @ 11 and keep Round 3 on Day 1.

Rounds 1-3 Sat
Rounds 4-7 Sun
Just seems more logical.

JMO....
