AUSTIN -- Texas safety Robert Joseph was jailed Saturday on two misdemeanor charges of burglary of a vehicle and has been suspended indefinitely by the Longhorns.

Joseph, 19, was booked around 4:30 a.m. and remained in Travis County Jail late Saturday on $6,000 bond. He was arrested after running from a security guard who found Joseph sitting in a car that didn't belong to him at a downtown hotel, according to his arrest affidavit.

"We are aware of the recent situation with Robert Joseph," Texas head coach Mack Brown said in a statement. "We've talked with Robert and his family and have decided to suspend him indefinitely, pending the completion of the legal process. At this time, he will not be involved in any team functions."

Joseph is the second Texas player arrested this month. On June 1, junior defensive end Henry Melton was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

According to the arrest affidavit, Joseph was spotted in a car by an off-duty Austin police officer working security at a hotel parking garage. Joseph told the officer the car belonged to a friend, but then fled as the officer tried to verify the owner's identity.

A short time later, the officer again found Joseph sitting in another car. The affidavit states that Joseph was arrested after telling the officer he was breaking into cars to get away from someone who attacked him at a downtown club.

Joseph, a sophomore, played in seven games last season but missed the last six with a shoulder injury. He had 14 tackles as a backup safety and special teams player.

Two brushes with the law for their team in one weeks time doesn't give you pause for concern other than trying to call out the poster of the story?

The other guy that Mack Brown "let run amok" isn't even a Longhorn anymore.

When "the poster of the story" is obviously obsessed with the Longhorns (see signature), he deserves to get called out for it.
 
Wow, Longhorns in trouble again.... This after the start of last year's season that saw two horns suspended against OSU before the second game of the season:

Brown was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon after he was found with a loaded 9 mm handgun on his lap, according to deputies. Brown, Gatewood and Harris all were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

You're right. We shouldn't be concerned at all Mr. White. Big deal...its just a DWI, and the other kid, whoopdedoo...it's just burglary.

Let's just leave them alone and pretend this was not a newsworthy story.

DWI's happen all hours of every day. It isn't a good thing, but it happens. And it's a lot more common for college-aged kids to get them.

The other kid is a dumbass and now he's off the team.

Suspended indefinitely does not mean off the team for good. It means just what it states suspended, not kicked off the team or ot of school. I am sure if and when something happens to the Aggs, Tech, Baylor or OU that a ut fan will post it without being labled a hater or what ever.

But hey it is ok to bash the poster for putting the story on here all you want it does not change the facts.

I think your comparison doesn't work.

Guy's that get in trouble, typically leave the team one way or another from what I have seen from the Longhorns football program.

In the Switzer era, as I recall, players weren't even arrested, and if they were, they still stayed on the team for the most part.

There are going to be some stupid kids, doing stupid things. Mack Brown can't stop that from happening. How he handles it afterwards is what should be focused on.

How has Mack Brown mishandled any of these situations?
 
I don't know if he has to this point.

I suppose the frequency of problems arising with players he has recruited, within the last 2-3 years, should alarm some within the university system.

Maybe its due to our local news sources picking up on local troubles only, but I'll be all ears if someone could point to stats that show another Big 12university that has had as much recent trouble as ut has.

I am NOT sticking up for ut (because it goes against my genetic make-up) BUT one thing to consider with schools in the Big 12 is the towns where those schools reside... Most are in traditional "college" towns as where ut is in a pretty good size city, making stuff like this a) more newsworthy and b) much harder to sweep under the carpet...

It doesn't seem really out of control compared to other situations from past experience.

All programs have these issues, some get more attention due to the exposure of the program.

I see your point to a pattern and nothing should be swept under the rug. But, I don't think it is something to get overly concerned about at this time, particularly if all instances are appropriately disciplined. Which seems to be the case up to this point.

Probably at this point, Mack needs to run a little tighter ship with these kids so it doesn't get out of control.
