Brandon Merriwether

because i want to know why people even considered him? Sorry. If you don't like it, overlook it. If your just curious theres your answer. He's a thug that doesn't mesh with this organization.

How does this make him a thug?

Note: Anthony Reddick is the one swinging the helmet, not Meriweather...

I know...He's the one doing the stomping. That's one of those Ghetto things you see these days. You see it alot in fights these days.

what do you expect? you expect him to just sit on the sidelines? its not like thats gonna happen every game, so i wouldnt be too worried unless a fight actually broke out.

My opinions on Meriweather.

3rd best safety in the class this year.

Landry imo.
Nelson
Meriweather.

He is real good and going to be great he is 1st round talent easily. If landry goes 7...say we take nelson at 10 (unlikely?) meriweather could go to jacksonville. The only thing hurting him of course like yall say is character.

thats one thing that concerns me. he doesnt fit this team for that reason and mcnair wont go for it.

pulled a gun and shot at someone? - apparently some dude came to his apt. complex and shot at his roomate. brandon pulled a gun out that he had on him and returned fire in self defense. (nothing illegal he did, gun was registered and all and it was self defense.....but still)

on field brawl...meriweather stomped on the guy. i understand it the heat of the passion and all. because ther were like 100 players fighting...its still not an excuse.

i'd take him in the 2nd round if we had one...maybe..character concerns will keep him out of houston. he could go in the late first though and if we really want him..we could take him in a trade down.

Im sure if a camera was on you when you may have done something you regretted, you wouldnt be chiming in the way you are now...What he did was wrong...but in the heat of the moment, when ppl are kicking your guys and the fight is on....you just fight...period

i want him because of his physical talents...he reminds me a lot of ed reed...just not as physical

but he can't be another pacman jones...he's gotta stay on the straight path without constantly getting into legal troubles...if he can do that then certainly i want him

Before this year he had no major character concerns. Both teams are obviously visibly embarrased about the brawl that occured. If you've followed Miami football you would've known that the guy running the show the past few years, Larry Coker, is about as classy a college coach i've ever seen. All you had to see was his press conference with his resignation/firing. Sounded like a guy i'd play for.

It's unfortunate that a few people can give such a storied program such a bad rep. We have two Miami football players on our roster right now and i'm sure they'd endorse this guy with Winston playing with him the year before last. Things got dicey this year down there and i expect Coach Shannon to help the black eye on that university.

meh...ya check him out well, using a PI and such and if he is always having "issues" whether they are big or small, ya pass. If it was a one time, heat of the moment thing, you take him. Where teams get in trouble is when they fall in love with a guy and don't do the due dillagence or ignore what comes up. The old addage of "a leppard doesn't change it's spots" holds pretty true. It might just be a series of relativly small things that point to a guy that's too high on himself and thinks he can just do anything and winds up being an embarrasment when he get out on his own with a bunch of coin in his pocket ie. Packman.

my question about merriweather doesn't have anything to do with the U...i personally like a lot of the players who come out of the U...the question i have about brandon is whether or not the brawl is going to be a one time thing or is it going to become a pattern...if it's a one time thing and he's learned that his temper has to be controlled then great...he's a extremely talented young man that could really help us...but his interview reflects otherwise then you have to pass on him

Gamehorn25 I personally don't trust many people who come out of the U because too many of them had character issues.

What??? Who??? Worse things happen at Ohio St., Tenn., hell even UT. But because they are from Miami, they are automatically Thugs. Who are these character issues you speak of? I would never want the Texans to have Ed Reed, Johnathan Vilma, D.J Williams, Willis McGahee, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, Edgerrin James, Vince Wilfork, Sean Taylor, or Ray Lewis. :sarcasm:
As for Merriweather, whoever picks him is going to get a hell of a player. Miami gets the bad rap for the brawl, but if you didn't watch the game then you don't know the whole story. FIU was taunting and provoking fights all game and the refs never took control of the game.

When you lump everyone from the U in one category, it shows your bias (do you work for ESPN). Give me names of these so called "character issues".

that was a real ignorant post..

Nope not really. I go to a school where you constantly see fights in the gym, where one kids head bounces off the floor three or four times. I have many friends who live in the projects in east chatt. who would agree with me. There was no ignorance.

And i think Ray Lewis, that other LB a few years back, maybe last year. Taylor is another one of those issues. But I feel differently about Ray Ray after he became God's Linebacker (Sports Illustrated)

it doesn't matter where he came from...for every sean taylor (who was my guy i wanted us to draft in 04) there is a andre johnson and a reggie wayne...for every ray lewis...there is a ed reed and a jonathan vilma...remember there has been a ton of quality players come from the U...they regularly get the top high school kids...the have one of the best offseason programs...yes they've had a few character issues come up...but they are nowhere near as bad as florida state, nebraska a few decades ago, UT has more legal problems lately, and never forget ohio states blunders lately...everytime we hear the name clarett ohio state's name gets drug with him

And yet for all their talent, they can't recruit a good QB. Go figure.
