Laron Landry -- Period....

I am not just saying this because I am a huge LSU fan. I am saying this because this is the route the Texans need to take with the 8th pick or if they possibly trade up, they still need to get this guy. He is a type of player that can change the look of our defense and actual put some fear into opposing offenses when we play. When has this team ever had that look - NEVER.

Not to mention if you have Mario, Demeco and Dunta alongside, all of a sudden you have very young and talented defense with some spunk and attitude.

Please please please for the love of god Texans DO NOT DRAFT BRADY QUINN.

What you saw in the sugar Bowl is only a glimpse of how much he might struggle at the next level.

Of course if it was me I would do whatever it takes to get my man Jamarcus. With JR at the helm you could have Mathis run a post anytime you want and my man can let it fly.

But seriously we need Laron.

DONT MESS THIS UP TEXANS.

Thats what I am hearing as well. But 1 of the teams that I was worried about was the Cardinals and I just read that they signed a safety for 5 years so that helps. I am actually worried about Tampa Bay with Laron in all honesty.

LaRon will be fine as long as Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, or Adrain Peterson are not available. I could care less who they do or do not draft. I have faith in the head honchos to believe they will make the right decision come draft time. But to say him, PERIOD is stretching it some... There is not 1 player that is a PERIOD draft pick for us...:elmo:

You have faith in the Honchos that paid Carr $8 million this time last year and $5 million for Moulds and a 5th round draft pick?

They did a good job with Demeco, but all other picks and free agent moves reamain to be seen.

If AP is available with the eight pick, we pick AP. period. And as for Quinn, you can't judge him by one game. He has alot of talent and has been tutored by Weiss. He's also smart and has a competitive spirit. Even peyton Manning didn't look good in every game in college. You can't be closeminded and rule out Quinn just yet. You have to look at every option. And the Texans will trade up to draft Peterson or Quinn but not Landry. I think he will be available with the eight pick.

That is pretty much the way it is going to be. Peterson, Russell, Quinn, Johnson and Thomas will be gone in top 5.

the great thing about the projected landry pick is it solves two problems for the defense...it solves our need of a pro bowl caliber FS who doesn't allow the big plays but creates them...it also drastically improves the things we can do defensively...this allows guys like faggins and d-rob to be more aggressive at the line of schrimage...more bump coverages that i think both of our corners are better at than lining up 5-10yds away from the reciever

also IMO the difference between quinn, stanton, and kolb is coaching...i think charlie weis has done a great job with a kid who before he got there was considered by most notre dame alum to be a waste of a signing...his first two years there were horrible...he couldn't hold onto the starting job...he wasn't reacting to the defenses correctly...the list goes on...i think we can wait til the third round...pick up kolb or stanton whoever is still there...kolb if both are there...and let kubes do his thing with the QB's

QFT. If we pass on Quinn, this board could be in for it, if we play him this season and he whips us. Then again he probably won't be playing and be holding a clipboard. :joker:

Spot on. I fell a lot more comfortable having Faggins still at corner if Landry is in our backfield. True FS that we don't have that will really help faggins out.

With the Landry pick we do the following:
1) get a true FS
2) help out faggins over the top
3) could allow the LB's to play closer to the line and not drop in coverage
4) could allow Mario and our line more 'coverage' sacks. Mario won't get many sacks if a)he's double teamed...and b) if the QB can get rid of the ball before Mario EVER has a chance to get there.

Landry should be the pick...even if we move up to 6 in some sort of trade..it should be because we want' to "guarantee" us get Landry...and that trade should only happen on draft day w/ Landry on the board.

What about Owen He played pretty good when he was in the lineup.

1. Quit wasting your time even dreaming now that AP is going to get past the browns wit hthe Droughns trade. He's going to cleveland. That is a period.

2. Everything you said about Laron is on spot. Agreed 100%

3. Not worried about the cards. One thing i am wondering is Matt LEinart is a lefty...and a blindside for that would be RT....Levi Brown could be put there. I would like to at least see us STRONGLY consider Levi at 8.

4. If Calvin Johnson is on the board Tampa teleports to the podium and dances a jig as they select him.

5. You are wrong about Quinn. He'll be a solid pro given a decent situation and talent to work with. He did pretty damn good at ND with sub par skillset talent....i wonder what he could do with genuine NFL talent.

6. Ole Miss Texan.....Laron Landry/Levi Brown followed by Kalil is a good dream for me as well. On a thread i did i looked at the center situations in teams in the later part of the first round and begining of the second round. Looking at those situations and this draft being stacked at the top for WR and defense. It's possible Kalil can fall to us. :D

1. true
2. true
3. I think the Cards should take Levi. 5 may be high for him or for a RT, but that would make the most impact on their team imo. That would be huge for them.
4. true
5. I really hope you are right...if you could help me what teams late 1st early 2nd have good centers..and which might grab him? I see WR,DL, Cb there may be some good talent at the top of the 1st. I also saw oakland got a new C in FA.

well i think with all the trades the lions have done recently i think they'll trade down with arizona and probably take less than absolute value there...arizona will take joe thomas...instead of reaching for him at the 5th spot...detriot at the 5th spot i would guess would take either gaines adams or alan branch but with their recent signings of dewayne white and the fact that they are pretty much loaded at DT i doubt those will be the picks...watch for them here to either take landry, hall, or AP if he's still there

Here's a question for ya'll to ponder. While he's spent the majority of his playing time at FS, would you entertain the idea of switching him to CB? According to the write-up on him at NFL.com, he could project to either position in the NFL.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/landry_laron

What if we were to sign a veteran FS like Hamlin? I could see justifying taking him in the top 8 picks, if he were a CB. But, FS is not a position that is normally taken that high, & especially by a team with as many glaring holes as we have. Signing a proven player like Hamlin at FS would be cheaper & yield similar results on the field.

CB is also a huge need for us, but quality veteran CB's usually cost a lot more money than a top 8 rookie. What about Reggie Nelson switching to CB? Otherwise, I'd trade down & pick up one of the other CB's, like Hall, Revis, or Houston.

the example of the Texans getting burned in the secondary that stands out in my mind was by Lee Evans (we all should remember that day) in Buffalo game. coverage sucked & help over the top sucked. would Landry have stayed with Lee in coverage or better served coming over the top is pass support from the safety position?

the only way I could see the Texans stopping this type of play/performance from happening would be with using a player like Reggie Nelson did @ Florida as the safety valve- last line of defense. he has a little more speed than Landry & if used in a similar fashion could prevent the Texans from giving up big plays. otherwise you need a true cb with one on one skills & elite speed. Landry can be more effective closer up on the line of scrimmage because of his strength, pass rushing & run support skills.

Add me to the draft Laron Landry camp. We would have the nucleus for a dominating defense intact for years to come. Draft Brady Quinn? David Carr, deja vu?

That's a nice read. Hamlin could be a good FA pick up for us.

I'm one who is very PRO Landry and hope we get him, BUT...if we sign hamlin...I just assume take Leon Hall for cb. I say this because he has played cb a lot longer...actually..he's played cb.lol Landry would have to learn to play cb...i think he could play up on the line on a receiver some during games fine..but putting him at cb for the whole game may not be a good idea. I'd rather take a better cb in hall..that wouldn't take as long to transition.

I would consider going ahead and drafting Landry but playing him at SS. he's a hell of a hitter...him and hamlin...whoa..we would never get beat deep.

No thanks. I'm not a big fan of that idea. If we draft LAndry we have galring hole at FS. If I was GM I'd sign Hamlin and Landry and letthose two roam the secondary. With an athlete like Landry back at FS it'd make mea bit less nervous starting Faggins again. I'd rather persue a second tier CB. Draft Landry, maybe sign Hamlin or not either way he'd be a great upgrade over Earl or Brown, then draft a CB Like Bain or someone and let them slowly work theirselves into the starting CB role.

Yeah he has 4.35 speed...but why would you move a 4 year starter at safety to CB. Why would you move Dawkins, Taylor, Reed, etc over to the CB spot?

I honestly don't get why i see this question pop up.

Just asking the question. Why take a FS with a top 8 pick? Even if we don't sign Hamlin, we could pick up Brandon Meriweather in the 2nd round, & he's pretty good as well. With the possibility of any one of AP, Quinn, CJ, Thomas, Russell, Levi Brown, Anderson, Branch, Okoye, & Adams still on the board at #8, I'd take one of them over Landry. It's not that I wouldn't want him, it's just that I believe we can get a better player at #8.

I have Landry rated as the best defensive player in the draft. Others obviously disagree, but most should have him in their top 3...imo.

But based on needs or if someone already has a decent secondary..Landry may not be the guy... but we have problems everywhere except for 1 DE, 1 LB, 1 CB, 1 WR.

Do you think Reggie Nelson is as good or better than Landry?

I think nelson is an incredible athlete...he's still raw imo....but has a lot of upside. I don't like how he tackles and that's my main concern with him in the pros. Nelson is definitly the #2 receiver and really helped himself out a lot at his pro day. Landry still holds the #1 no contest...he's an all around better Safety imo...and has the leadership qualities on top of that. (think of Landry as 'a faster demeco ryans in the secondary'...that's what i truthfully think landry is and we'll see it next season no matter who he plays for.)

AP is going to Cleveland at 3.

CJ is probably headed to Tampa.

Joe Thomas probably Detriot...but dear gawd if he fell to us at 8.

Either Russell or quinn will be there at 8 for us.

For me it's between Levi Brown and Landry. Though if we go differently i would have abolsultely no problem at all getting Merriweather in the second round. If Kalil is not there.

No...

He wouldn't have...

He'd have done the same thing C.C did, which is what the play called for.

If you want to blame someone for that, blame Richard Smith.

Landry still holds the #1 no contest...

Not on everyone's board.

Nelson is Great in pass coverage, average against the run.

Landry is good at pass coverag, good against the run.

It just depends on the style of play you want from that position.

Landry is easily the #1 FS on the Texans board. (in my opinion, and i think..lol)

I think you're right that it really does depend on what a team is looking for, but will add I would ASSume most teams think Landry is the best FS in the class...they may like Nelson because he is more versatile in the fact some consider playing him at cb. I think nelson has the egde on cb ability for a prolonged time period.

Landry fits the Texans to a T. I think Nelson would actually look good in Jacksonville but would not want to face him 2wice a year...he very well could end up there.

All I wanna see though is MARIO, DEMECO, and LANDRY all sack Vince in a game next year or lay a big hit on him. and see them all lay a huge hit on reggie when we play the saints next year.

that would get our fans pumped up...particularly w/ mario.

nelson is a bigger playmaker, and i think teams like that in him more than landry. wouldn't surprise me to see nelson go first, not at all.

I agree with this.

Nelson is going to get more interceptions and cause more havoc in pass coverage than Landry.

Landry is a solid all around player, not going to get beat too often, but at the same time he's not going to take many chances and cause those big momentum swinging plays like Nelson.

Nelson is much better in pass coverage, and though i like Landry, I don't really see him as the kind of safety we need. We need help with the dep ball, not so much on the run support. Nelson would be a good player to have deep to take some pressure off of our corners, and make QB's and recievers think twice about just launching one.

Teams like Nelson b/c he is the bigger playmaker, & he is like Ed reed but that was mainly b/c florida could afford to let him pretty much roam around & make plays b/c their d-line & LB pass rush was ridiculously fast & talented. & like ed Reed that D-line & LB corps for the ravens is crazy talented. We don't have that & in the league you need more discipline especially playing guys like VY & that's why i like Landry better b/c to me he's just suited more for us & the league.

Otherwise, they are pretty much about in the same category.

I think you have to pretty much have a defense in place to let nelson do his best thing like kast and true mentioned above in pass coverage and changing the momentum of the game.

but i dont' think he's a texan type player...i see landry fitting in perfectly here with every aspect of his game, not nelson.
