Article Title: Eyes Of Texans

Description:
Sitting in the No. 8 spot in the upcoming draft, the Texans are eyeing a possible trade to move up to grab quarterback Brady Quinn, writes Len Pasquarelli

Actual Article:
Len Pasquarelli said:
On the list of the world's 946 billionaires published by Forbes Magazine this week, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair ranked No. 664, with reported assets of $1.5 billion.
That's good, because it seems that for the second time in six years, McNair is going to be opening up the bank vault to sign a top 10 quarterback from the draft.

The man Houston coach Gary Kubiak quietly had targeted to be his starting quarterback in 2007, Jake Plummer, has retired. Or at least Plummer claims to have walked away from the game, even if he hadn't officially filed the paperwork with the league office as of Thursday evening. But just because it appears that Plummer won't be reunited with Kubiak doesn't mean that incumbent starter David Carr is safe as the Texans' starting quarterback for the coming season... ... ...

Its an Insider, so i can't get the rest without being a member. Maybe someone with access can paraphrase it for us.

I read the whole thing. In summary it says the Texans are talking to the redskins to move up to the sixth spot to Grab Quinn cause they think that the Vikings will grab him with the seventh spot. They say that the Texans have been in some serious discussions with the Redskins.

I think it's more to force Clevelands hand to take either Quinn or Peterson at 3 so they don't have anywhere to go in a trade down with the Vikings. How would you feel if the Browns trade with the Vikings , Vikings take Quinn and the Browns take Peterson at 6?? Alot of fans will be sick.

ehhh dont say that!!

I think the Vikings have the 7th pick now, so if they traded w/ the Browns, and we traded w/ the Skins, then Peterson would be ours first, if he was there.

Exactly, That's why we make the trade with the Redskins so we can secure either Quinn or Peterson.

redskins want to move down, better do business with them. i expect a bidding war between the redskins and houston/miami. bring it on.

I guess this part of your post must be confusing me. A lot of Houston fans?

Yeah Texans Fans...

Yeah Texans Fans...

If the Browns and Vikings traded, and Adrian Peterson was still on the board at 7 after the Texans swapped with the skins at 6....I'd guess that Houston fans would be mad. If Peterson's there at 6, I bet we bust of Carr for the 8th and snag Pete. then Cleveland fans will be sad.

Moving up to six would mean we get one of the top 5 if a defensive player is taken before us:

qb - Quinn or Russell
rb - Peterson
ot - Thomas
wr - CJ

otherwise, we get to pick the best DL.

Not a bad thought if the FO likes one of the DL more than the others (otherwise we get one of the top 5 - CJ will be gone but would be too good to pass up and the rest fill need positions)

Pass on Vince Young and draft Brady Quinn. Wow.

And people wonder why this franchise is a national joke that views 7 wins as a success. :thumbdown

We don't know how Brady Quinn will do, and it's still too early to tell how Vince Young will turn out. He hasn't started a full season yet.

I think you're right.

If the Vikings trade with Cleveland, they get Quinn... Cleveland gets Peterson.

The only way we can force Cleveland to take Quinn, is if we say that we want Peterson, then Cleveland will not trade the pick with Minnesota.

But they can still do a draft & trade. Cleveland takes Quinn, we don't move, Minnesota takes Peterson, then trade the players.

But if we're telling Washington we're doing this to get Quinn, Cleveland takes Quinn, & we trade anyway, to take Peterson, Cleveland has a QB they didn't want... we get Peterson...

Pretty smart.

If we move up I hope we don't give up any draft choices, it would take our 3rd rounder and our 1st to move up to the 6th spot! At this point in our franchise I don't like the idea of giving up a solid starter by giving up our 3rd rounder! Unless the Texans FO thinks that Quinn will become the next Manning or Brady (he was coached by Charlie Weiss who did make Brady the top tier QB that he is now!) I would rather take a DT like Okoybe or Branch or Landry and get Stanton in the 3rd round.

Players make coaches, not the other way around.

Very rarely do you see a coach repeat the same high results with very different players.

I dont believe Don vito....

Houston owns the eighth overall choice in the first round of the draft and NFL sources tell ESPN.com that the Texans have been talking to teams higher in the order about moving up in the round, if necessary, to snag Quinn. Specifically, the Texans feel they might have to leap-frog the Minnesota Vikings, who own the No. 7 pick and who also will be tempted to grab Quinn as their quarterback of the future.

The Texans have been doing a lot of talking with Washington, currently at the No. 6 slot, about a deal. That makes sense because Redskins coach Joe Gibbs, who finally seems convinced that you can't buy a Super Bowl with free agents and actually have to invest in some draft picks once in a while, wants to slide down out of the No. 6 slot and amass extra choices.

Some in the league feel the Texans and Redskins already have an arrangement in place for such a deal, provided, of course, Quinn is still on the board at the sixth slot.

So, who do we really take at #6? Quinn or Peterson or an O-lineman or another great D-lineman?

You have to be an insider to read the rest.

I would take Quinn. We need a QB, and that will be Kubiak's QB. He was coached under Charlie Weis, and would be a rookie. Carr had already been sacked so many times before Kubiak came in, and Capers wasn't the greatest of coaches. I hope it goes through.

oh boy. i know washington wants more picks but we need all of them we can get too.

I'll bet Peterson is gone. Quinn may be too. I'd say we jump Minnesota to grab either Quinn or Landry.

I still think we should wait till Washington is on the clock...we have no idea whats going to happen, who's going to drop, or who's going to trade in front of us or them......if we're targeting a certain player....it's a waste to make the trade this far in advance...i would think our FO was smarter than this.

To me it sounds like a trade of a 3rd round pick on draft day. We give the #8 and our 3rd...they give us the #6.

Sounds like Carr may still be around come traing camp from this report.

I think it may be funny if Russell is the one that falls come draft day...not Quinn.

I also hope we are just putting a little pressure on some of the other teams w/ everyone thinking we may go up to 6. Like someone said, Cleveland may be a little skeptical as to trading down with Minnesota if CJ is still on the board if they think we will move up to 6.

I Hope we are playing our cards right and we get the player we really want...and it's at 8.

I agree OMT. I hope this is all a smokescreen and we stay at #8 or trade down. I'm still for getting Okoye or Landry. We can get a QB with the 3rd rd pick. JMHO!

... i really hope we don't trade up. With the droughns signing it is al lbut in hand AP goes to Cleveland. I think after that now either Russell or Quinn falls to us. Oakland is going to make this draft interesting.

if true this at least paints a troublesome evaluation process thats not accountable for its gross mistakes, not a pretty picture at all, just a continuation of failed gestures & wasting golden opportunities :poker:

IMHO I would kind of be surprised if Detroit doesn't take Quinn, have him play a year or 2 on the bench behind Kitna just like Cinci did with Palmer learning under Kitna and there Detroit has their QB of the future

i would be very upset if texans move up just to get Quinn. I really do think he will be available at #8. and also I want LANDRY!
