I feel there is a 3-way trade boiling up

With Plummer "retired" whos rights are with the Buccs and Ramsey signed with the Broncos...these are the two quarterbacks that Houston were really pulling for besides Jeff Garcia...something just feels wierd to me that something horrible like this is going to go down... i've never wanted any of these guys, in my opinion they all suck...I'll take Carr, Quinn or Kolb and then I'll be happy :)

it is still entirely possible that something is being cooked up behind the scenes but every day that goes by makes Carr returning more likely. The 'cream of the crop' (and i use that term very lightly) has already been snatched up. Now the only guy out there is Trent Green and he is going to be big money and probably a 2nd rounder. Would he be an upgrade? Sure he would but at a premium price both in picks and $$ The Texans just can't afford to do that right now.

As much as I would like to see Carr go somewhere else, we are probably best sticking with Carr and Sage till June and see who gets cut. We can then cut Carr at the June cap-friendly date if someone appealing becomes available or just let Carr and Sage battle it out for the starting job and 'let it ride'.

I think the Texans are being very cautious and frugal in their negotiations for a QB and that is a good thing. I just hope we arent sitting without a prom date come training camp time and forced to ask out the fat chick with the good personality.

Well it doesn't help to sit here and wring our hands over all of the possible Carr scenarios. Carr was a good college quarterback, not a great one. HE still has potential, and I believe that could be exposed if he is benched and the team becomes successful under a different field general. While his market value will undoubtedly decrease if he is benched, which won't help at all as far as any potential trades are concerned, it could potentially make Dave want to be a better quaterback. Maybe all Dave needs is a time-out. Then again, maybe Al Davis is senile enough to steal this Carr.

ESPN reported tonight that Plummer has not yet filed retirement papers yet like was previously reported. Maybe he is holding out hope that Houston will trade for him.

I believe that Plummer also stated on his website that his retirement papers had not been filed yet, so maybe there is a plan to bring Plummer to Houston. The offseason in the NFL is all smoke and mirrors.

The play now, is for Plummer to not retire, and force Tampa to pay him, or cut him. It would be in Tampa's best interest to work a deal out with us for the trade. We need to show that we are satisfied with our QB situation.

The best thing we could have done, would have been to get David to restructure to a more cap friendly deal. Same 4 million guaranteed, with a lower salary(say in the $3 million range) but for more than the 2 years he has now... say 4 or 5 years. If they did it right, at the same time Andre did his, it would look like we were just extending his contract, and that we are in fact happy with him. We might be able to pull that off now.

No Ramsey, no Plummer, if we can get David to restructure, say we're ending our QB conundrum right now, and moving on, then Tampa may change how they see their position, and try to move Plummer.

It would help all sides. David will be more attractive if his contract is already restructured.... I don't know if a $3million salary would be low enough to raise interest, but it would be more attractive than the $5.75 million he is scheduled to earn.

It would help our position, and make it look like we are satisfied with our position.

Tampa Bay would realize if they want to get anything for Plummer(say Dexter McLeon, or Jason Simmons) they better get while the getting is good, otherwise they'll have to cut Jake, and get nothing.

Good to see other people coming to grips with the obvious truth.

I'll bet you a sig that Carr is not the starting QB on opening day 2007. I win, you put what I say in your sig. Carr starts, I will put what you want in my sig. Deal?

If there is a 3 way trade, I think it would work out like this.

Carr going to ??? Vikes, Browns all just rumors

Plummer going to the Texans

Bucs receive a draft pick from whichever team ends up with Carr.

This way the Texans keep all there picks and the Bucs try to get a better pick in return for Jake than they sent to Denver for him.

It is essentially Plummer for Carr, but the Bucs dont really need another QB to replace Jake. The Teaxans may also snag a high pick from the Bucs or from Carr's new team, maybe a 6th or 7th. Because in trade value I see Carr's value a little higher than Plummers.

If I get a first day pick for Carr, I wouldn't waste it on Jake.

When will you people stop learning to offer me bets? A bunch of you took the Reggie for $25 bet last year and predictably welshed on it--kcwilson was the only taker who honored his word. While I don't remember you in particular betting it you were all over Reggie Bush last year and denying the truth until ESPN broke the announcement a full day after I did.

In any event I don't bet, even a signature, unless I'm certain, and in this case I think there is a chance, however slight, that Carr won't be our starter next year, though not for most of the patently stupid reasons I read about on here (i.e. we trade up for Quinn, we want 37-year old Garcia, we are engaged in some sort of conspiracy with Jake Plummer, etc.)

My current information indicates (as it has since January) that Carr will not be traded or cut and my estimation of his skill versus Sage indicates he will beat out Sage in camp. However there is at this time the slight possibility that if Quinn falls to us we pick him up, or we draft a second-day QB who might end up beating out Carr in camp, etc. but bottom line it's a little too early to call it still and I'm not going to make this bet until I see how the draft and June cuts/FA shake out. That said, just know that the odds are quite stacked against you right now, Pork.

After last years draft, nothing surprises me. Surely there is a method to the Texans' madness. I'm just glad Casserly is gone!

I don't even think you gave me positive rep for actually sending you the money --- cheapskate... just kidding.

Interesting. I thought I was certain that I knew what the Texans were going to do about their QB situation but I was wrong and right now I don't have any idea how this is going to end.

so you think a 2nd round QB could beat out Carr but not Sage? cmon now.

i am currently resigned to having Carr as our starter for yet ANOTHER year. am i happy about it? hell no. are we going to do anything with Carr as starter? hell no. we just have to take solace that we may be lucky enough to get quinn at #8 and then we could start Carr or Sage for a year and let Quinn mature and start him 2nd year ala Palmer. The only way I will be even partially content with Carr at QB is if we draft Quinn at #8 (no moving up to get him). If we all delude ourselves enough to think a mediocre prospect like Kolb will be our savior, well we have another 5 years of bad losing football incoming.

another uninspiring offering by you.

so just because he went to UH he is a "mediocre" prospect?" get over it, just because he didnt go to UT, Notre Dame, USC, Miami doesnt mean he cant ball.

What I'm pretty certain of is that our FO feels that we have too many other deficiencies that we need to address through FA/draft to expend valuable cap space pursuing at best modest upgrades to the QB position. Even if Carr will never be better than "okay"--and maybe he won't--that's still a lot better than a good half of our other starters. Add to that our cap situation and the fact that there just weren't any must-have FA or draft acquisitions this offseason.

Carr is the visible face of the franchise and the poster child for our failures but I continue to insist that despite his many mistakes, he isn't the position in greatest need of upgrade, he probably isn't even top 5. I'd actually be surprised if we aren't trying to trade down from the 8-spot to pick up additional picks.
