think we'll do with the draft? Especially if we sign Ken Hamlin. Should we go with Levi Brown? Alan Branch? Jamaal Anderson? IMO, I think we should trade down and draft Darrell Revis.
 
Even if we sign Hamlin i wouldn't be opposed to putting both Landry and him back there. Levi Brown would be a good fit for us i think and IF Spencer comes back healthy we have the "problem" of where to shuffle him and Winston. Those are my two picks there if we don't trade down.
 
If AP falls to us...pick him up; if not, Landry would still be an excellent pick-up as well as Okoye. As much as everyone wants Brown, Kubiac himself talked about how the deepest positions in the draft this year were OL and WR, so I tend to shy away from 1st RD selections at these two positions, but that doesn;t mean it won't happen though. IMHO, I believe DE is also pretty deep for Day 1 and so a solid one could be selected in Rd 2 or 3. My 2 cents

Agreed. i think landry, okoye, and quinn might be high on the list. given ap's gone. I think there will be a few good DE's to pick from in the top of the 2nd.
 
I am going to make the assumption that the following players are for sure gone:
1. Russell
2. Joe Thomas
3. Calvin Johnson

Assuming we dont make any other selections in Free Agency I would draft in this order:

1. LaRon Landry
2. AP
3. Okeye
4. Quinn
5. Anderson
6. Branch
7. Adams
8. Levi Brown
9. Leon Hall

I personally think that Landry could be a stud and we should not pass up on his talent and potential. However, if AP is there at 8, I bet we would see some trade offers, but I bet someone will trade up before us to select AP if he is available at 7. If AP is gone before 7, I would seriously be worried about losing out on Landry also because Atlanta probably would trade into the 7 spot to get him, since Minnesota doesnt get real value on a reciever at their current selection.
 
Yes, I would like to draft Landry as well no matter what, but would Richard Smith & Kubiak put Hamlin at SS and Landry at FS? I would like that scenario with a CB drafted in rounds 2-4. (Daymeion Hughes :winky:)
 
I get the feeling also that Kubiak won't select Levi Brown #8

DE, OL & WR class are all deep, look for value @ these positions based on need. look for Smith/Kubaik to select the bpa early, see who is there when they pick 1st, 2nd & 3rd rds. maybe something like this-

#39- Ryan Kalil, C USC
#73- Eric Wright, CB UNLV
#104- James Marten, OT Boston College
#135- Brian Robison, DE Texas
#168- Laurent Robinson, WR Illinois State

I like your 1st 2 picks. I don't think we'll draft Eric Wright because of his off-the-field problems. Ecstasy was found in his apartment. Plus, he was a bit inconsistent. How would you feel about Travarous Bain or David Irons in the 3rd?
 
i dont know guys, im still goin with Reggie Nelson over Landry. I know, he didnt run the 40 as fast, but i saw him play in every college game of his career, and he plays at an amazingly fast speed. hes a ballhawk, makes WRs pay for coming down the middle, and can play corner, if need be. our list should be
1-AP
2-Reggie Nelson
3-okoye
4-brown

the only reason Wright would be available (3rd.) is because of his character issues. you tell me, what do the measureables look like?

its possible Nelson could slip out of the 1st rd. right now he is projected in the mid to late 20's (NFL Draft Scout has him ranked the #29 prospect).

speaking of Florida prospects, what aboout Jarvis Moss? is he consistant or does he disappear @ times?
 
Here's a little tid bit I recently heard about Laron Landry from Ravens DC, Rex Ryan - basically he had the PERFECT; viewed a game footage and after 1 viewing named mistakes made all secondary during the few plays as well as stating what he would have done differently. Ryan was adament that Landry was an amazing athlete whom he love to work with.
Sorry guys, I don't' remember where I heard this, so there's no link, but if I come across it I'll post it. I just thought it was pretty cool to hear.

I know what you're talking about...doesn't landry's brother play for the ravens? I think he viewed some game film and at the combine talked about all of it from memory too. if i find any links i'll post it too. any ways landry just really impressed them.
 
I like the pick up of Green.

This probably means that D Willaims is dropped officially and atleast one other runningback from the team to free cap room.

How realistic to think the Texans have a shot at Carlisle and Hannin in FA? Either one might be a nice grab, but unrealistic for the team cap. And should the Texans go after Stallsworth when this is a rich WR draft?

If we were able to obtain both Carlisle and Hanin, it would really liberate options for the draft.

To my dismay, i think with the signing of Green, Kubes has made it clear that a RB is not on his radar until the later rounds, not a number # 1 pick. To me he's showing the trend that he wants to get the running game untracked & get the defense going which are all hamllmarks of the Denver system. remember, the broncos last 2 superbowls came with TD carrying the team & them not relying on Elway too much to make plays in the passing game. the defense was also stout as well. If something comes up worth while to get rid of Carr he'll take it of course, but right now he's OK with DC just being a caretaker.

i expect him to go BPA offensive/defensive line with the # 8 & fill in from there. If AD does fall to us somehow, they might initially look to trade down, but if nothing shakes out, i seriously don't believe Kubes & co. would take him, which makes me wanna :cry2: knowing that both my guys (landry,Peterson) will be pretty much off of the texans radar when they pick. The wildcard is Quinn. If he impresses Kubes with his smarts & strong arm, he might be inclined to take him.
 
hey beerlover. jarvis was our most consistent DL. My only concern is that he seems to rely heavily on his speed and he might try to overuse that in the pros and realize that wont always work, a la MW. But he is a manchild. Hard worker, never gives up on a play, chases down WRs 20 yds downfield. He plays the run real well. He might be able to play OLB, not sure if thats on a few teams minds. He does weigh 250. But he wont disappear, thats for sure. The guy was a stud out of Texas, didnt play his first 2 yrs, kept losing weight, was real sick, was on the verge of leaving school until Meyer came along, got him checked out properly. Turns out he had a infection of his hip bone from high school that wasnt treated right. He was down to 215 pounds, or something crazy like that. Worked his tail off, and became our best DL past 2 years. I love the guy, lol.
BTW-Reggie is a monster. Hes the next Ed Reed. Book it. Rem, Ed Reed was taken in the 20s and ran a similar 40, but plays much faster.

Wow think of this, getting Landry in first with Reggie Nelson in the second... that would be two premiere talents at safety. Safetys are always more important than corners...That could really help Mario out as well because qbs would hold the ball longer with the better coverage we have.
 
Green is a moderatly inexpensive and fairly safe CYA if they don't get a top level RB in the draft. Covers our backside for 1-2 years til we do. If we get one this year, then we are in just a bit taller cotton is all.

Fix the O-line once and for all Levi Brown with the 8th pick. QB and RB are going to be very deep in next years draft. Take Levi now give him and Spencer there rookie seasons this year and prepare the O-line for next year when we take a new QB. RB's will be deep as well could get that taken care of as well with a late 2nd or early 3rd. Spend this years picks on Brown, and Def. (OLB or FS/SS or CB with BPA in the round)
With the Green signing today RB MIGHT be fixed for a year or two, I realy like it, we will need to adress it in the couple of drafts IMO. We all need to face facts and right now DC more than likely be our QB next year so my thinking is try to protect him as much as possable this year.
 
If you count LB as a lineman (as opposed to DBs), then the Texans' first four picks were linemen (DE, LB, OT, OT). With Green being picked up and AP looking further and further from the Texans' grasps, the draft is looking closer to last years. I'm guessing 2-3 players will be trenches guys.

I hate to say this, but I'm thinking

1st - Alan Branche/Okoye (DT)
2nd - Ryan Kalil if he falls that far; otherwise, cornerback (C/CB)
3rd - Staley? Datish? (OT/C)
4th - LB?

Obviously, with all those question marks, I'm definitely still thinking...
 
I think a first three rounds of:

1. Levi Brown
2. Aaron Ross/Merriwether
3. Samson Satele

would be nice.

or

1. Landry
2. Ugoh/Staley
3. Satele
 
1 - Laron Landry - S
2- Kalil/Rice/Blalock/Staley
3- Tim Crowder/David Irons
4- Ryan Harris/Ryan McBean

Obviously is real depth in OL this year, and Rice would be great to pick up in the 2nd if he falls to us. I know I threw several names in there for each round, but there are a lot of options out there. You can say I'm indecisive if you like. :winky:

I'd like the first 2 rounds to be defensive.

the 3rd a O-lineman BPA.

then you can have the rest of it to do as you will.

I dont see why some people are saying this means there will not be a runningback drafted. 2 back systems work very well. Plus, Green does not seem like a long term answer, 30 is pretty old for a RB. AP may be out of the question(makes me sad) but guys that have multiple uses will still be looked at. Like Brian Leonard, or Ramonce Taylor.
