A Fairly Decent One year Fix

GTFan

Noob
This would be my '07 FA and draft to get the Texans competitive ASAP for 07.

FA: Sign OLB Adalius Thomas and FS Ken Hamlin. Maybe Weaver, the former Raven, could put in a good word.

Draft:

1) Levi Brown OL
2) Michael Bush RB
3) Kareem Brown DT
4) Josh Gattis FS
5) Doug Danish C
6) Michael Roe CB
7) Jordan Palmer QB

This would give us the following line up:

LT Levi
LG Pitts / Weary
C Flannagan / Danish
RG Weary / Winston
RT Winston / Spencer

This line would have 6 young guys, all drafted by the Texans (all but one a 1st day draft pick), that could grow together and be one of our strengths. I'd keep McKinney around as a versatile back up and mentor.

WR AJ / Moulds / Walters
TE Daniels / Putzier

The receiving core would be fine. With more protection, there's no excuse why we can't go deep. Moulds and Walters remain good possession guys.

QB Carr / Sage / Palmer

FB Leach
RB Bush / Dayne / Taylor

This offense would have very little weakness. There'd be little excuse for any bad QB play.

The D

DE Mario
DT Brown
DT Maddux / TJ / Weaver
DE Weaver / Babin / Kalu

LB Greenwood
MLB Ryans
LB Thomas

That'd be a darn good front 7 vs the run. Pass rush would still be lacking. However, Brown and a healthy Mario should create some havoc and might free up Babin to have an improved impact.

CB D Rob
CB Faggins
Nickle back Roe

FS Hamlin / Gattis
SS Earl / Brown

So, overall, the secondary and the one DE would still be our team's weakness. We could easily address a DE and CB in the 08 draft. Still, I'd be quite pumped if this were the team we went into 07 with!

Doug Danish and Michael Roe aren't names of players.

Doug Datish and Michael Poe may be viable options in the draft, but I don't see the Datish pick making much sense (McKinney and Hodgdon). Michael Poe holds the Alabama college record for fastest L-Drill. (random fact)

The signing of Ken Hamlin over Michael Lewis would boggle my mind.

The drafting of Michael Bush would also leave me speechless. We've already got a big, bruising 'push the pile' back in Ron Dayne. I firmly believe Chris Taylor and Wali Lundy will be more than sufficient in 2007.

I like the idea of drafting a safety. I just think that drafting Josh Gattis over Gerald Alexander from Boise State is foolish. Alexander, in my opinion, is clearly the better performer.

It's quite likely the New York Jets will land Adalius Thomas. We barely have enough money to put cheese on a whopper, much less afford this guy.

May I ask why? I think Ken Hamlin would provide the biggest improvement to the secondary. We need a true free safey. Michael Lewis is a Strong Safety (unless I'm wrong?) And I truly am fine with Glenn Earl there, or he and CC Brown battle it out.

Would michael lewis be an upgrade at SS? of course. But i think adding a FS would help out so much more than an upgraded SS.

earlier i said Michael Poe, instead of Michael Coe...my bad..lol

yeah, Lewis is a SS, but we need depth at both positions. Neither C.C. Brown nor Glenn Earl are starting caliber in my opinion. If I had to pick one to start over the other, it'd be Earl at SS. So, you're right....FS would be a bigger need. In that sense, then I'd sign Hamlin.

I don't know much about Brown. I believe he measures 6ft 4in 303lbs. I don't know how much bigger he can get. I would like to see the Texans fill that DT slot with a massive DT like Walter Thomas 6ft 3-7/8in 363lbs or Paul Soliai 6ft 4in 325lbs. The kind of DT that is always drawing double teams and stuffing the run. I addition, I believe they will both be available on the second day.

I agree with you on the safety debate. Basically, when people decide from Hamlin or Lewis, Lewis has been to a Pro Bowl but is older, while Hamlin is young and is blossoming well. What would be great is if we could draft both, but that won't happen because we got too many other needs.

Nice post Gt. Rep your way. Don't let the aggie spelling police get you there. I got it. liked the flyer on the QB with the last pick. I'd like the punter there even better if Sepulveda was still on the board. And I probably missed spelled that one too there criss.

I like the draft, although I wouldn't be throwing money at Thomas.

Hamlin would be a great addition, Lewis is a SS and we have plenty of those already and he lost his job last year anyway so there is no gaurantee he would make that big a difference because it was our FS play that killed us.

The only negative I see is the lack of a CB. Maybe if we could find a hidden gem in round 4, instead of Gattis I would love the look of our team.

This has taken a lot of thought and consideration, which I applaud, but I disagree with you on Datish. I suspect that Datish will be gone by the third round at the latest since he is considered the second-best center in the draft.
