Combine info

Thought Joe Thomas was 6'8" but at 6'6" he still a huge man. Would love to see him in a Texans uni this year but that's a long shot.

is there a way we can find out who the Texans are paying "extra special" attention to in interviews, etc--kind of like at the Senior Bowl?

thanks kast--

does anybody think Quinn will be forced to do more at the combine than he initially wanted to get back in the mix for the Raiders or the Browns possibly? i had heard that he wasnt going to do a full workout at the combine but still had visions of being drafted at the top.

If I was Quinn's agent seeing how his stock has fallen, I'd protect my percentage by having him do whatever any team with a top ten pick wanted.

doesnt 239 approach TE levels? that seems really heavy for a WR. not saying calvin johnson cant ball at that weight, but man, where is the seperation going to come from?

Apparently C. Johnson weghted in at 239

and J. Russel at close to 265.

Both a touch heavier then expected.

If CJ breaks 4.4 like he should, at that weight, with his height, and with his skills, he should be deemed the best WR prospect in the history of football.

quinn doesn't have to do anything at the combine. if he has a great pro day, he's good. teams remember what happened most recently, so when that pro day comes in a few weeks, and if he does well, he'll be fine. now, if he doesn't do so hot, then he's really screwed. so he has more pressure on him, but he'll be fine.

russell needs to trim down just a tad.

he already is. which is why i can't even imagine the raiders passing on him for some average QB prospect like russell. makes no sense.

Well, he has always been said to have 4.3 speed, so if he does it at that weight, there will be plenty of seperation.

No joke. You could mistake Russell for a DE.

btw:

NFL | Russell to work out at Pro Day
Fri, 23 Feb 2007 11:18:03 -0800
NFL Draft prospect JaMarcus Russell (LSU) said in an interview on NFL Network Friday, Feb. 23, he will wait until his Pro Day at LSU to work out for scouts instead of working out at the NFL Combine.

so that's good for quinn.

:ok: Well you got me on that one. Quinn makes up some ground.

Doug Free is considerably heavier than his rooster numbers in the program. 323...burritoes. See if he still has a 5.0 in the tank.

Last years stud TE, Vernon Davis, IIRC ran a sub 4.4 at the combine. And he
was 'bout 250 - 255 lbs.
He and Johnson based on size & speed are both WR-TE tweeners.
However don't know what kind of blocker Johnston is, but Davis is an excellent blocker as TEs go.

http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2007/02/combine_notes_as_they_come_in.html

Manual Ramirez and Justin Blaylock showed their incredible strength by pushing up 225 pounds 40 times. I've heard Ramirez mentioned anywhere from the 3rd round to the 5th round when talking to NFL evaluators while Blaylock is pretty much a 2nd rounder across the board.

Joe Thomas did 28 reps which is more than enough for a tackle. Blalock and Ramirez are guards so they are expected to do more. The guard position is typically a strength position while tackle requires decent to good strength but good feet. 28 reps isn't considered a bad rep count for an athletic tackle like Thomas. Low 20s is a concern. Short arms is another thing that can kill tackles. Just ask Eric Steinbach who was moved to guard, in part, because his arms were too short.

it'll leak in the next few days.

They've undoubtedly got their eye on a 3rd string OT who looks really good in his jammies. He probably lifts 225 about 12 times and they think he could fit in really well behind the superstar RT we have in Zach Wiegert.

Levi lifted 31 reps. He's probably the best overall LT available in the draft. This guy could help us tremendously.

Except CJ is 6-4, with top body control hands. He fights for the ball. Yes, VD was a freak, but CJ is a better prospect at his respective position. And VD wasn't a great blocker, he was said to have the strength to become one, but that aspect of his game was lagging.

Did someone mention Calvin Johnson as a TE? If so, question for that guy:

What?!

SO CJ weighted in at 239 and I was a tad surprised, then I got home and saw him at the weight in and was shocked. At 6'5" and 230 lbs man-child was cut. CJ may be one of those guys who redifines the size parameters for a position ala Ripken did for shortstops.

Anybody else seeing Russell as a Leftwhich clone??
Leftwich is lead footed Bledsoestatue. A better comparison is Ben Roethlisberger. They are both big strong guys with decent agility and can get passes off at multiple body positions as they buy time, but aren't especially fast or quick. Leftwich is in trouble outside the pocket but you can move guys like Russell and big Ben around.
