If I were the GM this is the way I would like to see our offseason and draft go:
In FA I would sign Ricky Manning Jr. CB from the Bears and QB Jeff Garcia from the Eagles. I would then trade Carr to Oak for their 3rd pick. Then my draft would set up like this:
1. Okoye- DT- Louisville
2. Staley- OT- Cent. Mich.
3a. Beason- OLB- U of Miami
3b. Manuel Ramirez- OG- Texas Tech
4. Dan Bauzin- DE- Cent. Mich.
5. Josh Gattis_ S- Wake forrest
6. Dallas Baker- WR- Florida
7. Sepulveda- P- Baylor

I doubt the Texans will draft a punter. They already signed a FA punter to compete with Chad Stanley for the position. His name is Cameron Muro and he went to Hampton University.

That would be a good draft for me also, but I don't think some of the players you have will last until the rounds you have them at. For example, some have Gattis going in the 3rd round, and Sepulveda going in the 5th round. Also, you have us getting Ramirez in the 3rd and I don't think the Texans are looking for a Guard in this draft, although it would be nice depth.

Overall, I like who you picked, especially the first 3 rounds. Okoye is very high on my list, and I think Staley and Beason would help fill 2 big holes for us.
Good job! :ok:

You didn't draft a young QB. Garcia is to old and he would want starters money and is only a backup. We signed a punter in theoffseason and he is in Eur. playing. Other than that good shot.

Keith Weiland put together a nice list a week ago that could stand revisited- http://www.houstonprofootball.com/scout/scout144.html

He had the Texans selecting

1st. OT Levi Brown- no explanation needed here, best LT after Joe Thomas, then it drops to 2nd rd.
2nd. FS Brandon Meriweather- playmaker in area of need, should be able to lock up starting position as rookie which the Texans need.
3rd. RB Tony Hunt- all around solid football player should see immediate playing time in Kubiaks RB rotation.
4th. WR Jason Hill- value pick @ need position, eventually fill the #2 WR role, excellent route runner, reacts well to QB & RZ threat.
5th. CB Travarous Bain- not really considered a sleeper pick anymore, this would be a value pick @ a need position.
6th. OLB Dallas Sartz- really outstanding size for position, would be developed @ SLB, special teams.
7th. MLB Zach Latimer- lacks size or speed yet could afford Texans back-up depth @ MLB. player w/good attitude, special teams.

would you give up a 4th rd pick for tatum bell? I would

I like the idea of trading our #8 pick to Denver for Jake Plummer, Tatum Bell, and a 2nd round pick. It would save us a lot of money, buy Kubiak some time to find a young QB he can groom, and give us a solid QB in Plummer for a couple of years. What do you guys think?

I would be ecstatic if we came up with anything close to this beerlover. In all honesty I'm going to have to look up the last two. Stick Jacob Ford or Micheal McFaddin in one of those last two slots that would seal the deal for me.

I pretty much hate the Tony Hunt pick, as I can't see him even beating out Wali Lundy. On the other hand, I love the pick of Sartz. That kid is a beast. He can rush the passer from the SAM with huge success as he proved throughout his career. I think the pick of Jason Hill is also a wasted pick. I'm not really big on drafting a player who shouldn't see action for 2-3 years. I'm feeling a DT in the 3rd or 4th, and a scat-back type RB if we must go RB or a C in the 3rd or 4th. Think like Datish and Mebane.

Great read. That is exactly, precisely what I'm thinking this off season. I'm kinda of skeptical of the Clements signing. But Kieth , I didn't pee my pants.
Agreed this is the quickest way to get a team ready for the '08 play offs. Not drafting the big splash guys left to fend for themselves behind inferior o-line tallent. It isn't pretty but it works.

Thanks for the heads up beerlover.

Top 2 look good, but we still need RB help...

NO. I don't recall Denver winning championships with either of them. It is good to have connections in CO, but we do not want to be Bronco castaways. We want to build our own team. Plummer may make it our way, which is not an upgrade, but Tatum is not coming.
