[Fox Sports Radio]: "Kolb could have Cutler-like rise."

Heard this on the way to work today.
It was the First Team on Fox Sports radio (locally on 790). Paul Burmeister, who is covering the Senior Bowl activities for Fox Sports, said Kevin Kolb's performance coupled with his existing intangibles so far could give him a "Cutler-like" rise up the draft boards. He didn't say how far, just said there was a good chance that Kolb could be the third QB taken this year, much like Cutler was the third QB taken last year behind Young and Leinart.

it's very possible. he hasn't looked great so far though.

Nope. He threw a curve ball to the back on a swing pattern. He's rising because everyone outside of tater tot is looking terrible. Not a very good year for QBs if your looking for a quick cure. The wind this week thined the feild a little bit at QB.

The WR's are killing the DBs and the DTs are having trouble agaisnt some of the o-line. The cream is rising to the top. Davis is having a better week than Higgens. And Ross is what we thought he was. This is a weak class of DBs overall.

He might have a Cutler draft stock, but I bet if anything, he moves from Day 2 to R2, R3. I doubt he jumps past too many people in the draft, Cutler had minor problems to overcome, Kolb needs to get past the "system QB" label.

Burmeister has been into the Jagermeister. Cutler was always rated as a day 1 mid 1st RD pick. Some teams had Cutler rated as their #1 QB.

There is no way he can make a "Cutler-like rise". Cutler was already a high rated QB coming out as a late 1st round pick and rose to become a Mid 1st round pick in a strong class of QBs.

Kobb is a late 2nd to 3rd round pick who could be as high as the third or as low as the sixth QB taken in the draft. Yes, he could elavate himself the become the clear 3rd QB in this draft, and maybe get himself picked in the middle of the 2nd round.

He just used a bad metaphore or synamon or whatever they are called in this situatuion.

you must be working off that loss to TTU tonight. that guy knows more about what is going on there, because he is there. for all we know, he might be hearing these things from actual NFL scouts/coaches. if you would have heard the interview like i did, the reporter in no way said Kolb was anywhere near the first round, but has done alot for himself so far in the eyes of the talent evaluators.
BTW--the name is K-O-L-B.

I was tring to make the point that the term "Cutler-like rise" is incorrect. Could he be climbing his way to the top of the QB list? Sure, maybe, nobody seems to know down there in Mobile. You just can't use the term "He is making a Cutler-like rise" because that is misleading information. It means to a fan who knows nothing about the draft that he will be a possible Top 10 pick which is unture. I have no doubt that his stock may be rising, but lets wait til Saturday and after the Combine and then we will see where he fits in. I understood the point he was trying to make, but to others they might be left confused.

By the way thanks for correcting my typo.

that's understandable. i dont think the journalist was being irresponsible and dont think he meant that Kolb would approach the top 10 or even the top half of the first round. i believe what he meant is that out of all the QB prospects this year, he could make the biggest jump, something that russell or quinn arent likely to do because their selection in the top 10 is likely guaranteed no matter what they do in their pre-draft workouts.

I like Kolb from what I've seen. The one game I watched Troy Smith, he didn't help his cause imo. I originally mocked Texans with Thomas and now say AP as Thomas is now projected to be gone & AP may slide to #8. I moved Kolb to 2nd round because a) Carr will be in his 6th season & even if he improves immensely (my belief) we need a qb to train. I'm just not sold on Sage as a starter for more than a few games. Kolb being from UH should build fan support to some extent, especially if he turns out to be the real deal. I think having Kubes can only benefit Kolb. Kubes would help Smith but you can't teache height. C) Kolb may well be gone when we pick in 3rd. Maybe he will come in like Spencer and that would be great as I really think 2nd round could be used better if we knew we could get a good qb in 3rd.

I agree with you 100%
