Falcons nab Petrino for HC

Man I can't say that was a good move on his part. But what do I know?

Seems like he would have had a good shot at the title next year and then make a move to the NFL if he wanted.

Plus he's going to go from having a great passing QB to some crazy run happy QB in Vick. Guess we'll have to wait and see if the coach killer strikes again or MAYBE they move him out?:secret:

As long as he does'nt end up in Houston I'll be happy!

As I posted in the equivalent thread in the NFL section, I'll bet this helps prompt guys like Brohm to declare for the draft rather than return for their senior season with a head coaching change. Too bad for their team because they had a shot at winning the national championship next year.

I don't like to bring the race card up, but did Atlanta interview and African American Canidate before they made this move?

How are we supposed to know. I assume they met the league requirements on this, but that's just an assumption although I have to believe the league made sure they complied with their rules on coach hirings.

Maybe they asked Vick to be a player-coach, since the players obviously aren't the problem.

Singletary should get a HC job soon. He deserves it.

I find it hard to believe Brohm won't come out. I don't think he'll want to learn a new system his senior year.

I thought the same thing b/c that was QUICK. Of course they could have done like the lions did a few years back and had a bunch of "cover my ass" interviews and bring in the coach they actually want.

i'm suprised NFL owners are still taking chances with COLLEGE coaches honestly after the whole saban debacle. this is a VERY DIFFERENT game. something i'm not sure those college coaches really understand until they get to the league.

...and for every Mangini, there's a Mike Tice or three. Nothing in the NFL is guaranteed, which is why three championships in four years counts as a dynasty.

Good God! Does anyone ever ask whether or not any white players were given a try out for the local basketball team?

So if Brohm comes out...would anyone be opposed to taking a qb at numero ocho? I dont want Brady Quinn, but if Jamarcus Russell or Brohm fall then you have to look.

By the way, last I checked, the NBA is at least 75% black. Is that racial equality? What about football? Outside of the quarterback and offensive lineman, there really aren't that many white football players. Oh, and Tight Ends. Not sure whether or not it is as lopsided as the NBA but is that racial equality? So why then do we make such a big deal about coaches and racial equality in coaching?

I totally agree. Man if Russell fell to us, we'd be fools not to take a look. Not so sure about Brohm but he'd be worth a look. I think I would probably be happier about taking Smith in the second than Brohm in the first.

Forgot about Smith. I think it would be very possible for him to fall to us at 40 if Brohm comes out...which imo would make him a perfect fit for us then :)

Exactly. And I never realized the size of Drew Brees but it certainly does not seem to be effecting him. And Smith can move better and quicker than Brees. So yeah, I totally agree that Smith would be great if we could get him at number 40. He'd be a steal. There's no guarantee he'd be great in the pros, but then again there is never that guarantee. Or at least there rarely is.

Don't forget kickers and punters.

I still don't especially like it, but a lot of that depends what they decide to do with Carr and who else is available there, and in the end the decision is out of our hands anyways so all we can do is ***** about it or deal with it.

I suspect that the Combine measurbals will have a greater affect on Smith's place in the draft than the other QBs. If he measures over 6ft by some amount he moves up, if below he will suffer a downgrade in placement. 6-2 seems to be the bottom of the desired size, but several have been succesfull at right around 6ft, so if he is a tad above, they won't knock him TOO bad, but below........we get into the Doug Flute thing.

He's as tall as Drew Brees. And Mark Brunell. One is a very good QB right now. Another one used to be. Of course that doesn't mean much regarding Troy Smith, but I don't take a whole lot of stock when scouts and "experts" say a QB is too short.

not a fan of this move. petrino runs his team like such a college team it's not funny. i don't get how he's going to make the move to the NFL. as an offensice coordinator he could be great though. very innovative and willing to change things.

but...matt schaub is a perfect fit for his offense. vick isn't obviously. and a week ago, the falcons stated that they aren't married to vick being the starter and the new coach will ultimately decide who starts. logically, that means we should see matt schaub starting soon.

I asked the question because of the rule. I don't care about the rule, but as a fan, if the rule was broken it could have an effect on the draft.

If you heard Petrino's presser today, there is no question that Vick is the man, no if's and's or but's. Petrino did not even mention Schaub by name. He just talked about how good Vick could be. Vick is not going anywhere and Schaub is looking for a home.

Maybe it has to do with skill.

I actually can't think of one dominant white NFL running back in this league right now.
