Your #1 pick

Practice Squad
At this point in the season, if you were in charge of the #1 draft pick, who would choose? Would you choose Mario Williams, Reggie Bush, Vince Yound, trade the pick or someone else? This is what I would do:

Pick Reggie Bush:
He is easily the best pick in the draft and has progressed much faster than Mario Williams. Since 11/12, He has rushed 338 yards on 72 carries (4.7 Avg), along with 417 recieving yards on 40 receptions (10.4 Avg). This includes 7 TD during those 7 games. He is already one of the most versatile backs in the league as he can already excel at 4 different positions (RB, WR, KR, PR).

If on the Texans, he would be able to take some pressure off of David Carr and would give the Texans offense a more consistent running game, especially next year with Domanick Davis.

But, I like him on the Saints, since they're more deserving of having him.

I would then pick A.J. Hawk:
A.J. Hawk, along with DeMeco Ryans, would create the most dangerous linebacker core in a few years.

wow, That one certainly was lost in the band width. Need to find an updated site big guy. Those guys are currently playing in the NFL. They're from the '05 draft. Nice Hoax try though.

Keep in mind he is 14 yrs old...

I would still go with Mario b/c he is the shiznit!!! Next year with a healthy foot and a full season under his belt and a consistent D behind him he will unleash his wrath on the NFL.

Super Mario in '07 : 10 Sacks .........5 Forced Fumbles.....3 Fumble Recoveries
1 Int........& 1 Broken arm for Peyton(j/k):shades:

Go :logo:

I was talking about last year's draft.

And I was saying that I would pick Reggie Bush, but since the Saints wanted him and deserved him more, then I would choose A.J. Hawk instead.

Dude, Reggie would have been on the IR behind our O-line by week 3. We have to run a 240lbd RB that can carry three guys on his back just to get over 100 yds.

AJ + Meco would have been a nice LB core for years to come but Mario was a better decision in my opinion. You just don't pick the same position back to back in the first two rounds.

Gotcha, so sorry. Get all kinds in here. Well, not to bang on your guy...I think with Reggie Bush's production this season, versus what Jones Drew has put up...I'm not so sure that the Texans made as big a mistake as the media protends. Do you ? I'm not saying he is not a very tallented RB. I'm saying he wasn't a back that fit the texans' scheme. He still is not a very good blocker. And he still has trouble running between the tackles. Both of those things are a must in this offense.

Id trade down and take Mario or D'Brick whichever was left.

Heck DEMECO deserves to be the 1st pick with how he has played.

Out of the top choices, I would have taken Dbrick still. Mario would still have been my second choice. Looking at it, I would probally have to consider VY up there as well.

Okay, I understand. Well, if you mean knowing what we know now, who would I pick? Of course, I am tempted to say Vince Young because of the success that he has had already and because of our apparent need in this area. I think Young has succeeded so quickly as a quarterback because of his natural ability to run. He doesn't have to be good at recognizing coverages and such. It makes me think of Vick when he first entered the league. Surely, teams are going to find a way to take that piece away from Young, and once they do he will be forced to deal with the real challenges of learning to be a quarterback in the NFL.

I think Mario is a good pick. We needed a pass rush. We needed help on the defensive side. I realize that Mario has not been in alot of highlights. He's been hurt. He's been game planned. He's going to take longer to develop in this league than a runner like Young or Bush because technique is so important in the trenches. Everyone knew Mario's technique isn't developed, but his physical gifts are such for the position that when he does develop the technique he's going to be a monster.

Bush is a good pick too, but I would rather have Young if I'm going to draft offense. You can call pass plays all day with Young, and he can turn it into a successful run play if needed.

I don't think I would have drafted anyone else for us in the first round except Vince Young or Mario Williams...except maybe DeMeco Ryans. Hey, we got Mario AND DeMeco. Not bad if you ask me...

why?

If you are going QB, why not the two better QB's?

What makes you think Leinart and Young are better? I like them all. I wanted Leinart over Young before the draft but now I would put Leinart last. This isn't a knock on Leinart but Cutler and Young have looked like studs so far as ROOKIES. Young has the least talent around him but I love Cutler's arm. I would take all 3 over Carr in a nanosecond though.

Well, if you're asking which player to take using hindsight, then I'd have to say, by need the best players this year have been:

QB: Vince Young, though I think Cutler's going to give him a run for his money in the long term.

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew has been the most outstanding rookie RB this year or really, in many years. He has over 2000 all purpose yards and 15 TDs with a game left to play. And that was all racked up in part-time play behind Fred Taylor, who also managed 1100+ yards rushing. Bush has about 530 fewer yards and 7 fewer TDs on 44 more touches.

WR: Colston, no doubt. This was a weak WR class anyway, and Colston has a case for ROY, though the late injury probably kills that.

TE: Owen Daniels really is probably the best rookie TE this year, though I think davis would have blown him out of the water if he hadn't been hurt.

OT: Ferguson and McNeill have both done outstanding jobs and will be mainstays on their teams for a while. Given this team's lack of O-line production for 5 solid years now, this is where I would have spent the #1 overall pick.

DE: Mario will probably end up being the best out of this class at the position, but this year there's another DE (can't remember his name) that has outproduced him.

LB: Demeco has been the best rookie LB in the NFL and really, one of the top 3 MLBs in all of the NFL this year, IMO. Remember Ray Lewis crying about not having the big guys up front doing anything so he couldn't be as productive? well Demeco has nothing close to what Ray had when he was whining and he is still putting up better numbers than Lewis.

I would still draft Mario Williams, and I think the Texans would still do the same if they were given the choice again. Vince has come on and progressed quicker than I thought he would and Bush has been just about exactly what I expected him to be. Unfortunately Mairo has been hurt the last two months because he's really starting to play with much better instincts and react more quickly to what's going on, and I see him dominating OLinemen 1-on-1 but because of his foot injury he just doesn't have that explosive step to get by them once he knocks them off balance and gets them right where he would ordinarily want them.

I was a little freaked watching Gaines Adams yesterday, he reminded me alot of Mario Williams just a little trimmed down with an explosive first step & the speed to burn the corner past LT. sustained a nasty looking cut block, which he had to leave the game for a few plays but returned & seemed to move well. interesting to watch Kentucky (Rich Brooks) game plan against him just like teams do in the NFL against the Texans & Mario Williams.

if somehow this guy slips to the 7-9 range where the Texans pick he would be a great pick-up. He would be the classic 4-3 RDE with Mario playing LDE that would be lethal (of course still need that upgrade in the middle) plus they could switch back and forth to confuse their game planning, that would sure free up the defensive playmaking of both players & linebackers. one of the best NFL prospects I've watched play this season, should be a top 5 pick.

DE: Mario will probably end up being the best out of this class at the position, but this year there's another DE (can't remember his name) that has outproduced him.

Your probably thinking about the Bears DE in which case he has benifited from that already superior D.
