"Half the stadium or more cheering for Vince"

Whats wrong with you? Ofcourse that makes me a fan. The Texans knew this situation would happen and accepted it. Maybe you should get with the times? For you to expect me to turn my back on Vince is straight up selfish. And to think, all of this is so that the texans get some respect for being a feared city to play in, which will help stroke your ego a bit. How sad.

Nobody expects you to turn your back on VY, just show where your allegiance is for this game. I like the Carolina Panthers as an NFC team, next year when we play them, its Texans all the way for that game. No discussion Texans are #1 in my book. You have already stated UT is your #1,that is what people on this board have a problem with.

Don't talk to me about being a fan.

Then don't come to a Texans fan message board if you want to spout nonsense but are too thin-skinned to deal with replies.

As eriadoc pointed out, the title of this specific thread is ""Half the stadium or more cheering for Vince". What part of your college educated brain doesn't comprehend this?

Besides, I'm a longhorn first.

Then say no more. You are a college fan over a pro football fan, and there is nothing wrong with that. To each his own, but when you come into the Texans board and start talking trash, expect it in return.

I road tripped in a RV with 10 guys out to the rose bowl, on average killing a keg every 18 hours for 13 days straight.

That's something to brag about. I'm sure you're grandkids will be proud. Did you get a gold medal? You should have.

Ha! Ha! Ha! LOL You took the words right out of my mouth.

:ohsnap:

I realize you are prideful in your drinking - most military men are. But you got nothing on us man, we get to train year round, not just at ports.

"I'm not drunk... I'm just tired from staying up all night drinking"

I'm at a land station right now and have been for over a year, (Mich) I have to babysit college kids like you all the time (UofM and Ohio ST.)

trust me I drink to kill pain. Plus I'm still from Texas, that gives me an extra booster right there.

Oh well, back on topic

Are you really asking: What is worse, a football fanatic that sticks with his team through thick and thin, or a fairweather bandwagon fan who follows individuals over his team?

It's as simple of logic as that, my man. I hate the fact that the Texans are bottom-dwellers as much as the next guy, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to sell myself, my city, and my team out. Justify things however you want, but at the end of the day there is a reason why football fanatics and fair-weather fans have different definitions in the dictionary.

DB, I hear ya, but the current state of this team is pathetic.

I went to Oakland and it was a wonderful experience because I got to meet some cool Texans fans and experience the fun of the Raider Nation.

But, what was good about that trip had nothing to do with the squad or the coaching staff, outside of Ryans. It would have been a complete waste of my time and money if went just to see that team. And actually, it was a great trip despite their ridiculous performance.

This team is joke in relation to the fans. The fans of the Houston Texans deserve a lot more than the crap that is shoveled out every week and every year. McNair owes and an apology to the fans and Kubiak needs to grow a set. This organization just has no heart and I don't get it when people say we should just take it because we are fans. I'm sorry you make stupid decisions and put out a bad product, you should pay the price!

I am so frustrated with this organization, I can't describe it. If they want my undying support, they need to EARN IT!!! Are you listening McNair???? I have been pretty laid back about the garbage the first 4 1/2 years, but enough is enough. There are no more blank checks from me, outside of paying for season tickets. The Texans are not getting another dime from me. I will get hammered and eat before the game before I spend anymore money at Reliant. It's over until they can post a winning record...

I think tough love is in order!!!!

Puke.

Go ahead and puke all game long. As for me, I will be laughing my ass off at the incompetent boobs running our franchise.

My thoughts exactly. Great summation!!!!

I don't know about undying but I thought they earned it when they brought football back to Houston? A game most people thought was gone from the city forever?

Thank you, Yvette. You're a class act, and glad you joined our forum. Too bad it's taking a Titans fan to drive home one important message to many of our 'fans'. :shades:

I don't disagree with you here, HT. I certainly understand your frustration and other negative emotions regarding decisions this team has made, and losing is never a fun thing to experience.

But how we deal with that frustration is where we differ. For instance, you went to the Black Hole...why aren't Raider fans skipping out on their rather pathetic team right now? I have not visited a Raiders forum, but are there fan urging everyone to boycott the team to 'teach Al Davis a lesson'?

The Raiders are a prime example of football fanatics. They wear the gear, they go to the games, and they support the team regardless of win/loss records or dumb decisions by management. I'm sure they gripe as much as anyone - which I wholeheartedly support (and condone) that right, btw - but they stop short when it means that they are no longer fanatics, but fair-weather fans.

This is all I've been trying to say. Fanatics should gripe, call radio shows, write the team, whatever, when they are unhappy (we chanted "Fire Capers" at the end of last season...I'm very sure that Mr. McNair heard us above his box, too). But don't stop going to the game, and don't join the rivals out of spite. This is stuff that comes out of a chicken's rear, for lack of an allowable term. :shades:

exactly, he's calling out a man that put his own money on the line to bring football here/ a superbowl here. He believed in this city or else he would be sitting in LA right now.

The Fans bit**** and moned for a new Coach, McNair hired one everybody was estatic for, now people won't give him more than a year to turn this thing around.

McNair is trying to turn this team into a winner, damn he's a terrible owner.

The absolute worse owner --- ever!!!

This is the NFL, do you really think they give a rats a## about what happened in college.

Do you think when Lienart goes to play at Oakland half the stadium is going to be wearing gold and red or Cardinal jersey's........hell no.......why, because despite their shortcomming, bad decision, and goofed decisions. They still support THE TEAM and are way better fans than us......way better.

If you want to support a player for being so amazing, wear a #59 jersey. This isn't the NCAA, this isn't Austin, this isn't the Rosebowl, its the NFL...for god sakes we're playing a divisional rival.

Cheer Vince all you want during the pregame announcements...I would

Once the game starts.....he's a Titan......he's the enemy. It doesn't matter how many times UT fans close their eyes and tap their shoes....he's not ever going to play here. It doesn't matter how many times UT fans hug their #10 jersey's and suck their thumbs.....he's not ever going to play here.

People need to grow up and get over it.

The Texans might be a dysfunctional child right now, but they're our dysfunctional child

Great Post. I was glad that we didn't take Vince because I wanted David to succeed. I thought that given more weapons, a better system, etc., that he would develop into the QB that I thought he could be. I'm seriously doubting that now, although I do realize the o-line he is playing behind is hideous, but I need more out of him. I hope and pray that we beat the hell out of the Titans and David has a great game first and foremost because I'm a Texan fan, and second because of the negative energy it would create in the fanbase. Why in the world any self righteous, self proclaimed Texan fan would root for the opposition (esp. Bud's team) is downright putrid, and I'm sorry that I've read your posts over the years.

Does this mean that I don't have my regrets about not wanting Vince? No it does not, I sincerely wish that he was a Texan (sorry David), because I'm convinced that we need a new QB. But the bottom line is that Vince Young is a Titan, and although I want be at the game you all might hear my yelling if we kick their ass.

Edited to add that although I wish that Vince was a Texan, I am very pleased with Mario. Maybe I try to see everything to optimistic but I don't feel right saying that I wish Vince was a Texan, because that means that we wouldn't have Mario.

I really don't care what happens with the QB position, I just want better play, being David Carr or not.

people just need to realize that Vince is not a option in that scenerio and all the bitc**** and complaining is nothing, but counter productive at this time. When a team is struggling to find wins, confidence, and continuity, the last thing they need is to play a away game at home.........

You make an excellent points, but the Texans are not even close to fielding a .500 team. Which is really my issue.

I can handle the rough bumps in the road and the down years, but the way things are going, this team may not hit .500 for a couple of years, if we are lucky.

Which is really my gripe.

As for the loyalty by Raiders fans, they have history to fall back on, the Texans don't. Considering the track record of McNair's decisions, I am beginning to wonder what history there will be except for the Texans have a fan base that is loyal but accepts losing as a tradition.

I know I am being harsh, but some people need to have their feet put to the fire. This has gone on long enough, and even though this team is strapped for talent, there are other teams in similar situations that show more heart and drive, and win enough to at least sniff around .500 from time to time.

Good Lord I hope not. Kolb is project as a late 3rd high 4th. Drafting him a round and a half early would be assinine.

You're going to be surprised. I'm willing to bet QBs are going to be in high demand this coming draft. He'll go in the second or early third. If he's there for us in the third, we'd be crazy not to get him.

Problem is people are pissed at management. When people cheer for Vince and the Titans they are cheering against the Texans. Piss poor IMO. Voice your displeasures to the people that make these decisions that you don't agree with, not the team on the field. All I know if I was Demeco Ryans, Andre Johnson, or any other Texan for that matter I sure wouldn't want to play for that kind of fans.

I don't think it will be "half" of the stadium rooting for Vince and the Titans. There will be quite a few but in the end most everyone will be pulling for the Texans to win, even more-so if we whip that ass. I am excited about going because the friendly trash-talking to visiting fans is part of the fun.

There was a time that free agents (leave the Phillip Buchanon jokes alone - because that was a function of management that as Chance suggests are the ones to be PO'd at) viewed Houston as an attractive place to come and play.

I don't think fans cheering for the enemy or booing the home team will encourage them to want to play here anymore.

Twice as many wins as last season, realistic potential of going 6-10. Three times as many wins as last season 2 wins from .500 in one year with a beat to s**t O-line. Wow, I dont now what your sniffing? I don't think that is terrible, next year maybe 10-6.

If the Texans play bad as bad as last week MORE than half of the stadium will end up cheering for VY and the Titans.

You say people should have their feet put to the fire and we shouldn't stand for bad coaching/management.............and we didn't

The Texans turned over from GM on down and had a excellent draft, its going to take more than 3/4 of a season for the new talent/coaches to trickle results into the win colum. We gave Capers 4 years........Kubiak has a very realistic chance to match Capers best season, in year one, can he give the man some time please.

Also from the GM up.... I know that technically Ferens resigned, but I have to beleive that there may have been a little pressure to do so....

If everyone in Texas are turning into Titans fans then it is time for me to move back North again. This is all disgusting.

BTW, I will probably be changing my username after this game. I am ashamed of UT fan right now and really don't want to be associated with them.

Oh and another BTW, for you fans that want to root against Bob McNair's team because you didn't like that he passed on the Houston Hero, do you realize you are rooting for the guy that took the team away from Houston? What's worse, not drafting your player or taking your team away? Get real and a freaking life!

Beat the Raiders, Dolphins, and for some reason the Jags, what is wrong with those guys?

The wins you are referring to are the same fake facade from the heralded 2004 season of 7-9. A W is a W, you are right there, but they are not all the the same.

So what if the Texans don't beat the Titans and Browns at home and end up 4-12?

The Texans are a crappy team until they prove otherwise.

Look at the bottom teams last year, several of them are turning things around, yet the Texans are still hanging out at the bottom. The Texans are the same team they have always been since 2002, looking forward to next year and maybe get to .500.

Just because we beat them doesn't turn them to instant crap. The Raider's were able to beat the defending SB champs at home. The Dolphins have beat good teams 4 wins in a row. Don't tell me the Jags don't beat good teams either. 2-14 last year sucked,4-12 won't make me do somersaults,6-10 I can happily wait for more improvements next year.

Well Hook'em... You are the second Horn alum on this board to speak the truth. I as a Texans fan appreciate and applaud your sentiments. I'm sorry that it has come down to you being ashamed of Horn fans and also threatening to move back North...

You and I have disagreed on issues (whether here or another board), but it has always been fun or in jest.

Its a sad commentary, really.

Again, I applaud your thoughts and comments.

Somebody said in another post if you're going to cheer or boo for VY. I know there are a lot of UT fans and thats fine it doesnt bother me if they cheer for him when he's introduced. I would find it disgusting if anyone booed him. VY didn't do anything to us or the city of houston. he declared early because he wanted to play for us, to boo him would be completely wrong. it would look really bad on the texans fans and houston. coincidely i can see espn talking about this game if it was a big game and making fun of the texans if it was louder for VY than the texans.

Dont boo, just cheer our defense and our offense a lot louder than the VY/titans fans. end of story.

Yep.

I like it when the fans stand united in the face of the enemy!:grouphug:

I'll be honest here. I too am getting a little turned off of the Texans. However, it's not so much the front office decisions as it is the fans. It's embarrassing right now to be a Texans fan when everyone sees the city turning on it's own team because of one player. I don't live in Houston anymore and have lived in several other NFL cities since. I KNOW you would not see this crap in either New York or Philly. Imagine an Eagles fan wearing a Giants jersey to the Linc just because the Giants drafted a fan favorite from Penn State or a Giants fan wearing an Eagles jersey to Giants Stadium because of a fan favorite player from Syracuse or Rutgers was drafted by the Eagles. Having lived in both of those areas I am telling you that would NEVER happen. The guilty person would probably be lynched in the parking lot. I'm embarrassed to be from this state right now.

So presumably you think the Saints are smoke and mirrors as well. They have only played two winning teams and lost to both. Their wins have all come against losing teams.

Well Hook'em... You are the second Horn alum on this board to speak the truth.

For the record I am NOT a UT alum. I was born in the Austin area and grew up rooting for the Horns my whole life, even when I lived out of state which was a long time. However, I went to school at Delaware.

Thats fine.. It's your commentary that counted and should resonate with the fans reading them...

This is not the same team.

Our defense has been dominant at times this year and (yes....next year) next year they will be dominant if he plug a couple of holes.

Kubiak just has to get the offense to play at a avg. level, they don't have to be great just avg. on offense.

I'm sorry but Kubiak and Smith didn't know what they had comming in, they took the team for a test drive this year, now lets give them a offseason and another draft to turn this thing around...........thats only fair.

HH, you can't leave us now in our time of need! You're a football fanatic, and you know that it's in your heart and blood. I know you're probably just venting, but just the same, know that there are others out there like you.

LOUD PROUD & TEXAN! :texflag:

I can see giving a Vince a hand the first time but afte that, support your team!

I have to agree with McLain, and this is why I hate Houston fan. You did not see the Skins or Cowboys cheering for the other team even though they were not happy with their QB. Its disgraceful and the people who cheer on VY and the Titans make the rest of Houston sports fan look pathetic in other cities (as I have been told by my friends spread out across this Country).

I wonder how many UT/Cowboys fans would root for the Redskins over the Cowboys if Vince was with the Skins QB?

I wonder how many UT/Cowboys fans would root for the Redskins over the Cowboys if Vince was with the Skins QB?

This really isn't about Vince, but about the garbage over the past few years and some really stupid decisions. As far as I am concerned, the Texans make it very hard to root for them!

Vince is just an amazing lightning rod to send the whole thing over the top, that's all that is.

It's very simple, the Texans need to start winning games now, and pull an amazing upset either against the Colts or the Pats.

Texans win 3 of the last 4, the Vince thing really won't be an issue. The Texans can take care of this very easily all by themselves.

But, waiting till next year isn't going to work anymore considering the situation of this Franchise. And how many times are we going to hear that anyway?

That is really my point! Factor in the Vince situation, and now you got a MUTINY!

I can’t tell you how great it is to read comments by people who don’t give a crap where VY went. It just shows that there really are Texan fans here.

All I want is to see the Texans stomp VY into the ground.

Dear geniuses on this board:

- Rooting for Vince is not rooting for the Titans.
- Wearing a UT Vince jersey is not the same as wearing a Titans jersey.
- Thinking you can't root for a player on the opposite team, while still supporting your own is lol-erific.

Thats not at all the issue with most people. They are longhorn fans, and will always support their hero. That doesn't mean they don't want the texans to succeed, and it doesn't mean they are starting mutiny of their own team.

UT doesn't play the Texans. I can be a fan of both.

A) The only people I'm talking trash to are those who are dumb enough to think I can't support Vince while rooting for the texans. I'm not berating texans fans, I'm berating dumb people.

B) Everyone knows there is a direct correlation between how much beer you drink vs how much you are supporting your team. If you do not know this, then I am questioning YOUR fanaticism.

Are yall surprised? Of course there will be a ton of people with #10 jerseys. Heck even I went to the store yesterday to buy one.

There are more Longhorn fans than there are Texans fans. Anyone care to disagree?

Gee Einstein, I wonder why that would be the case? Maybe because the Texans have existed for 5 years and the Longhorns for almost 100. Congratulations on your new #10 jersey.
