Former University of Miami coach Butch Davis is close to an agreement to become the new coach at North Carolina.

Contrary to various media reports that said Davis and the Tar Heels have completed contract talks, a North Carolina source speaking on the condition of anonymity said negotiations between Davis' agent and the university are still ongoing.

The greatest college recruiter of all time IMO. I thought he'd go back to the "U" after they get rid of Coker this year. In 2-3 years he'll have that program as a contender in the ACC...

At one point, Andre Johnson was the #3 reciever at Miami. I can't remember who he was behind, but I think Santana Moss was one of them. For a few years though, he had so many good players. As well as USC has recruited recently, I don't think they're where Miami was at. Didn't they have about 6 first round draft picks just a few years ago? I remember reading some of the trustee members or board members that supported him while he was there aren't at the university anymore so he may not have gotten the job. I think he'll have UNC as one of the top teams in the ACC soon. I mean, if Wake Forest is in contention for a BCS bowl bid right now, imagine what Butch Davis can do?

andre johnson was behind santana moss and reggie wayne as a freshman. willis mcgahee was behind clinton portis AND frank gore at one point. ya had kellen winslow behind jeremy shockey, sean taylor behind ed reed, jonathan vilma behind dan morgan, and depth all over the d-line that i can't even begin to talk about.

yes, I think it is safe to say that he was the ultimate college recruiter. He built some scary good teams. Such a better coach and recruiter than Coker.

Florida is a much better base for talent than North Carolina. I don't expect to see him have close to the same amount of success as he did at Miami.

he'll still have plenty of recruiting success in florida. see: greg schiano.

speaking of schiano, miami better throw giant bags of cash and jewel-covered wands his way.
