2007 Free Agent Look (Early)

I can't believe nobody is mentioning this guy- but if we pursued a FA Rb, it would definitely be... Ladell Betts! He would fit perfectly in this system and I think he's a very good Rb.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Betts would be a great pickup for us and earlier this year we saw what he could do when given a chance.

QB
Quarterback is not a concern for me.. i love the way that David is playing right now..

HB
I would normally go for Michael Turner in any other situation but i have confience in Kub and picking the proper running back and with Lundy showing flashes and a decent class of HBs coming out in the draft.. that's not as much of a concern as other positions.

WR
I wouldn't mind seeing us bring in another nice reciever like Kelly Washington or Kevin Curtis, someone we could put at the 3rd or 4th reciever for right now. Cause as much as I hate to say it Eric Moulds won't be around forever and we will need someone to take over the number 2 spot.. I love Washington's size and strength and I love Kevin Curtis's speed and route running.

TE is not one of my worries..

OL
Dwayne Carswell is one of Shanahan/Kubiak's guys and I would love to have him here blocking for us next year. former TE turned OL good speed and quickness off the line.

DL
I'm relatively satisfied with our DL. We all just need to keep working as a unit and stay competetive and smart up front.

LB I would like to see us another LB to this unit, I mean it's decent right now but you can never be too good at the LB position. None of the names on that list are going to be in our reach in our opinion. Maybe we could look at Patrick Willis, or Paul P from Penn St.

CB
I would love to have Nate Clements on the other side of D-Rob, some people think that he is having a rocky season or two but it's not just them.. it's the lack of pressure up front and the team is just nothing playing to well as a unit right now. I think he could come in and we could look down but sides of the field with him. Ashante Samuel also is a good corner I wouldn't mind seeing him.

S
I've always like Ken Hamlin he's coming off an injury but if we can get him for a cheap price and we should, then I would pick him up. Ever since he was at Arkansas i wanted him on this team. Decent Speed but he hits like a Mack Truck and motivates a defense when he's out there. I also like Michael Lewis pretty good speed and he's a good hitter and is often left wit a reciever in the blitz happy defense.

WR) Why would you want Kelly Washington on this team, when he played behind Kevin Walter at Cincinnati? That would not make any sense at all. Understanding that Carr hasn't had much time in the pocket, he still can't get the 3rd read on his receiver. With a better offensive line, he will be able to get that read. That is where you make your decision on the3rd WR. Keep in mind that the last 6 catches, Walter had 6 1st downs. What more can he do, if they don't throw to him. He's open many times.

Question: Why would you go out and try to get a #3 to be behind Moulds and AJ when you just went out and got one and only had to give up a 7th round pick. Personally think it would be a waste to invest there when the Texans cannot run 3 WR sets in a game. You have seen what Kevin can do when they use the 3WR sets, the WR corps as a whole become a threat, then you just have to block for Carr as you do not have the extra RB or TE in there to help with the blitzs'

I still think the current WR group could be top 10 or better with Carr more time of a QB that does not hone in on one guy the and doesn't make his reads. Now I have to give credit, he was doing that against the Jags, I just hope he continues to do it and gain a comfort level in there and know he has a certain amount of time in his head to get rid of that ball.

GO TEXANS!!!

I was real high on the Walter signing, but he hasn't really shown up like I expected, so far.
I know the offense still hasn't hit it's stride and he may yet live up to the expectations I had for him when he came over, and if that's the case, you're right, we don't need to make a move at that position.
My statement was more of a comment that I think Engram doesn't get recognition for his play as a WR3.
Hopefully the offense kicks it up a notch, and Walter has more opportunities. His performance hasn't been what I expected, but most of it may be due to the state of the offense as a whole.

Already had my rant on some of this stuff, so I'll leave it alone. Just think it's foolish to try to up grade stuff that doesn't need to be up graded. With our batting average on free agents, I think some of you would show a little more restraint. Our front three WR's are fine. Leave it alone. Irritates me to throw away move up ammo . If you want Micheal Turner draft Jamaal Charles or Garret Wolf in the fourth. If there are no hloes, Turner isn't going to fair any better than any rookie we draft.
Salaam goes down, you're going to come to Jesus I promise you.

And I dissagree with the assement that rookie DBs cannot play right away. I'd much ruther risk young mistakes than old legs. In five months we'll see.

If you're referring to the posts about Engram, you come off a little high strung to me. Engram could probably be had for cheap, maybe even WR4 money, and wouldn't jeopardize your move up ammo... plus, our free agent record has been better with the new staff...not to mention the fact that we are all just theorizing here... sorry for the lack of 'restraint', though...
