Randomly thought about Alfred blue today he was one of those players you watched and wanted to succeed but never panned out at the Pro level.
But thank god the Bill O'Brien era is done! good riddance to him and Jack Easterby!!!! There is a lot to be thankful for DeMeco Ryans has given this
team an identity which is something we haven't had in a while things are on the right track don't lose hope. Lastly who is a forgotten texan that you wished succeeded
at the pro level?

Steve Slaton. I always thought dude was gonna excel in the Kubiak system. Exploded onto the scene in 2008 and then regressed every year after.

Not forgotten but for me David Carr comes immediately to mind. Number one pick and held this team back for years.
 
Who was the nigerian DT that was very young when we drafted him in the first round. Drafted roughly 07 0r 08. Name is alluding me, but he had all the raw tools to be great but couldn't quite put it altogether. He wasnt horrible, but fell far short of my best hopes…and was out of the league in a few years. I was really pulling for that young man. Didnt work out.

Hehe, my only memory of Alfred Blue is that my girlfriend at the time kept asking me why the fans were booing the team. I had to explain that they were saying "Bluueee!" not "Booooo!" for the short time that we (as fans) believed in him.
 
I remember crying for OB to use Blue more because the limited carries he did get he was getting like 6-7-8+ yards every time he touched the ball. Then when they finally did start feeding him the ball he had some bad fumbles and just looked about as pedestrian as it gets.

I was rooting for David Carr to succeed and still think he had the potential, just bad scenario for him here. He had a stretch of games early in 2004 where he looked like a future star QB, also people forget him and rookie Andre Johnson in his first game taking down the Dolphins in opening day 2003, Dolphins were Super Bowl favorites in the AFC going into that season had top 3 defense in the NFL multiple HOF'ers, the offensive line kept Carr from being sacked and the kid took that Dolphins team down in their own stadium. That loss basically ruined Miami's entire season day 1. Huge underrated upset and fact that it was Andre's first game ever maybe needs to be up there as one of the Texans best wins in early franchise history.
 
Andre Hal is one that I really liked, had that great game against the Titans in that blowout win over them in 2017. 7th round draft pick career was cut short with cancer but still ranks 4th all time for Texans in interceptions below Dunta Robinson/Joseph/Jackson despite only playing 69 games(4 years, he ranks 8th all time in games played for Texans defensive backs). I think he came back from Cancer at one point to play a little bit 2018 and played really well before retiring? I'd say he had a pretty damn good run for a 7th round draft pick all things considered. Without being struck down with cancer another year or two at the level he was playing and he could have easily been franchise leader in all time interceptions, possible pro bowl level guy.

Slaton's 1st year 2008 was quite impressive. In mid 2009, he suffered a neck injury (bulging cervical disc) which got progressively worse in the season. He had major fumbling problems in 2009....................it's hard to hang on to the ball when you can't feel your hands. Following that season, he underwent a cervical fusion at which time I posted that he should not return to football. He barely made it thru his the 2010 and 2011 seasons despite very few carries, and was finally given recommendations by his doctors that retirement was wise..............a good player succumbed to a bad injury.
 
Ahman Green.

Yeah I know he had a successful career but he did -not- pan out as a Houston Texan. I was soooooooooo excited to get him. He also was the only and last person that I bought a jersey for. I’ve had many other player jerseys but I specifically sought out his. Lesson learned.
 
Jadeveon Clowney. After the knee injury his rookie year, he never lived up to the hype. In fact, he still has not had a double-digit sack season and his best season might have been the one where Watt was out.

He was so great against the run, though, a very underrated player. It’s a great shame he couldn’t live up to his full potential, but he wasn’t as bad as some people made out. He’s a FA again btw.

I’ll add in Zac Diles, a 7th round pick if I remember correctly who was as much a part of our defensive turnaround and Ryans & Cushing after guys like Morlon Greenwood had stunk it up for us.

Clowney has carved out a long career as a solid starter. Especially considering the microfracture surgery his first season, this was an unexpected result.

He never played to the level of a #1 pick, but he’s been a solid player for 10 years. He’s been on the Suh “mercenary 1 year deal” plan since he was traded before his rookie contract ended and he overestimated his value for a long term contract. But he keeps getting those 1 year deals.

Clowney has made $89 million over his NFL career. And he will probably get another paycheck from the NFL before he's done.

Not bad. But compared to a #1 pick edge rusher that played to that status (Myles Garrett)… just a tiny bit less money.

Garrett just signed a 4 year 160 million dollar contract with 123 guaranteed.

But given the outlook after Clowney’s microfracture surgery he has exceeded expectations for how long his career was supposed to last. Interesting, if Clowney plays 11 games this season he will match JJ Watt’s career games played number. Who would have guessed that would have happened?
