I can get behind this pick because I can see upside. Father was an All Pro LT. Luke was a a top HS prospect and got offers as basketball player. Went to Iowa and was behind Sam Laporta. Once he became the starter in 2023, broke his leg in 3rd game. Last year, Iowa's passing game was almost nonexistent. But Kaleb Johnson led a strong running game and while watching tape on Johnson I believe the Texans saw Lachey pop on tape as a blocker. If Lachey can stay healthy, I think the Texans got a real steal here.
 
I see this prospect as possibly erasing all of Grongs records.

Lachey brings an element to the TE room they did not have prior to the draft: A guy with the potential to be a true Y TE. He has the frame to add more mass and strength as well.

The injury in 2023 and Iowa’s passing offense falling off a cliff in 2024 contributed to the fall of his draft stock. But his 2022 tape showed a player with starter upside. And as we know with Stingley, the team will gamble on upside if it’s been put on film at some point.

I am very interested in watching him this preseason. I hope he plays to his potential and Texans wont be able to stash him on the practice squad. I think him and Stover could make a nice TE duo on rookie contracts if they meet their ceiling. Both bring the requisite amount of grit/physicality as blockers while also having pass catching upside and the “want to” to gain yards after the catch.

Lachey will be the best blocking TE on the team. He was on track to be a high draft pick after the 2022 season. He got hurt and by the time he made it back he had lost speed plus he had terrible QB play. If he regains his speed then Caserio drafted LaPorta. If he doesn't regain his speed then Caserio drafted a very good blocking TE.
 
PS player for 25, at least to start but better than 50/50 he gets snaps this year. Good value for the spot chosen.
 
Honestly have not watched much of his game. We needed a TE (probably earlier in the draft) and his height, weight and hands sound good from his scouting report

Oh! Dang, I didn't know that was who his dad was. Kid should know what the NFL is about and I'm sure his dad has told him that he has to be a hard worker and listen to the coaches to be anything

Sounds like this kid might be the anti-Sheread Sanders type when he comes to Houston for
his first TC in August.
 
The link is to an article pre-2024 college season. Before his injury in 2023, I was very excited about his ability. Now having close to 2 years before regular season since his ankle injury, he should be both physically healed and emotionally recovered. I look forward to our new tight end Guru Caley working him into the game and i see him as a future in line starter.
