Potential Releases Following the Draft

SnakeEyes

Under NRG
I have seen a few boards list Schultz as a roster cut or trade to free up money for CJs deal and because he was garbage last year.

Other news has Tank being let go due to Inability to stay healthy. And just saw this article on it, the 5th so far. Pierce is also a popular topic for being let go.

Schultz costs money to cut. Tank if cheap. Maybe Pierce, but I would like to see him in a non-zone system (assuming that's the way we go.)

As I see it, Tank is likely cheap to keep around, they can IR him and give him time to recover. They have 4 players they can have ahead of him on the roster when he does come back, already, but that is a 2026 thing possibly rather than 2025.

Wait and see with Schultz, he was badly mis-schemed last season, left 1 v 1 against EDGE rushers too often. If anyone can revive his performance it would be Nick Caley.

Pierce is possible, but I’d imagine he gets to show what he has through pre season and goes in the shuffle along with Brooks, Marks et al at cutdown time. Not a lot of cap saving by cutting him, more likely to be roster numbers related.

From what they hint, it a straight up booking style. However, more RB screens and a ton more pre snap motion to try to see what the D is doing as well as creating mismatches. Which with 2 6' 3+ WRs we should have most times 😆

Tank will be IR'd and then looked at later. It's more expensive to cut Schultz than to keep him.

The cuts are likely to be more of the boring variety like Justin Watson - who also costs more money to cut than to keep but it's quite a negligible amount for a negligible player.

The thing about Watson is when he plays he isn't amazing but somehow gets open and makes good catches not YAC just possession type. Similar to a poor man's Kevin Walter.

I'd expect a guy who "just gets open" to have more than 289 yards especially when he played on 60% of the offensive snaps. I feel like he might not get open so much as Mahomes just simply extends plays past the point of reasonable coverage.

Overall I just don't see why I'd want Watson on the field over guys like Nico, Kirk, Higgins, or Noel.

If Tank is putting in the work, you bring him back to see where he’s at b/c they’ll get nothing in a trade. The other option is cutting him, but that’s not necessary until the team can get him back on the field. If it doesn’t work out, they can cut him.

He's going to spend this season on the IR.

We'll see where he's at during the 2026 offseason.

With the way Caserio drafted, I would say they think it's against the odds he'll make it back.

Stroud cannot be extended until the start of the 2026 league year (March 2026). Cutting Schultz now won't affect that deal.

Bingo. So, unless a team wants to trade for Schultz and take his onerous salary, he'll be right here in Houston.

I wonder what it will cost during the 2026 offseason to get rid of him. This is why a GM should never listen to a player when it comes to drafting/retaining/signing other players.

I think the Texans could see a big commitment to the TE position by Dalton Schultz. 2025 is essentially his contract season. If he comes to camp with the same mindset from last season, he’ll be cut after the 2025 season. If the Texans get a re-focused and productive Dalton this season….they might find a taker before the deadline or find a trade partner in the offseason when his contract becomes tolerable to take on.

In my book Dalton has proven one thing, he’s a lazy player once the desired money is secured. If he proves there’s a better version available when money is on the table….I’d never let a desperate act motivated me to give him another contract. Ship his arse out when the getting is good.

I don't think now that Stover has a year under his belt that Schultz can carry his jock. He is just a player who likes money and not work
