How do u know he didn’t do that tho? How would u verify that he didn’t? Are you close to him?

You think what we saw from him was the best anyone could have done in his situation?
Unless we hear about some injury he played through that no one talked about (we did speculate about that) I think he did his best & was found lacking. He handled pressure poorly which is exactly what the S2 says about him & we talked about early his rookie season.
Something clicked his rookie season, I & a lot of others ate a lot of crow because of it. But 2024 seemed like a bit of a regression to me. I'm hoping he's not one of those Tarzan guys that play well until they get punched in the mouth.
Time will tell.

So you think Mills working with Lovie and Pep was giving him a fair chance behind that ol? Agree to disagree and I'm glad they drafted CJ because he has potential to become a top 5 QB. Mills if given the weapons could've been a Schaub type QB.
Thing is I didn't want Caserio to pick Mills but understood why he did. I was with Texian on the Meinertz train. Imagine if Caserio has picked Meinertz an all pro OG rather than Mills.
Imagine this for a moment,
Tunsil, Meinertz, Patterson, Howard, Fisher or tonight draft Booker and put Howard at RT. This was Caserio greatest screw up and lead to the drafting of Green.

Yes , if you capitalize on that opportunity and put up the same or better numbers you did the final few games of the previous season. We wouldn’t have drafted a quarterback that high. That’s the point you keep on or refuses to understand. He didn’t show he was a starter in the league. One of his biggest flaws were the out patterns.

We’re not talking about anyone here, we’re talking about a 2nd year qb…I.e. a guy still learning regardless of how fantastic his rookie year was. . nothing “clicked” his rookie year he was just protected slightly better overall his rookie year than he was this past year……. which stands to reason b/c his rookie year, he never had to deal with the unmitigated disaster that was kenyon Green…he got hurt and was out before the season even began & Dieter took his place. Yet we still saw protection issues at times and he performed basically the way any qb would under those circumstances. Jets game. Both Baltimore games when he was under constant pressure.
Funny thing is, when u look at his numbers, they basically aren’t far off from his rookie year. He threw more pics and less TD’s…less yardage…but again considering the flux at WR all year & then him losing his #2 and 3 WR’s for the season…..his #1 missing 3 games..no TE to speak of really…what the hell do u expect?
I know u guys try to act like these things don’t matter, but they do.

Says the guy who says false start penalties don’t matter without looking at the context of those penalties impacting games that are frequently decided by single plays…
The only game that was impacted was the Vikings game. Like I said Peters and Quinn disagree with your post.

The plan on offense is beginning to come into focus with Caley as OC. The team values size and strength at OT. All the OTs they’ve acquired come in atleast 6’6” 330. They want size at outside WR, Watson 6’2” and Higgins 6’4”. They want speed at WR, all acquisitions at least 4.4 speed.
This team is looking to get faster while also getting more physical. I think 11 personnel will be the base formation and Caley will be using a lot more pre-snap motion ala Mcvay. The giant OTs will make it hard for rushers to get “quick wins” because they have to find a crack of daylight to get around them. And while they’re figuring that out, the offense now has multiple guys who can separate at WR to get the quick passing game going. I could also see more “legal” pick plays and maybe some chip blocks, motioning out WRs then having them take a run at a team’s pass rusher with a motioned head start to add momentum.

They came pretty damn close to cleaning house as far as the OL was concerned, got rid of 2 of the 3 tenured veteran playing staff. Fired the OL coach, the OL coach’s supervisor (OC Bobby Slowick).
It isn’t like anybody is reporting something the Texans missed in their underperformance last season.
Have to hope the promotion of the OL assistant is due to his voice being heard throughout the underperformance, but at least 3 of the 5 starting OL will be different to what they went with last year.
Only issue will be that this will be a very young group and they will have their teething issues whether on the right track or not, may be difficult to fully assess whether it’s rookie stuff or another failed attempt to build a line from a fans perspective.
They really wont be that young.
I'm thinking when everything shakes out the OL will look like this

I'm as excited about these guys as the next, but OT was not the problem with the OL last season. Majority of the pressure came up the middle. Fisher had a fair/bad game once.
The only way picking an OT is going to help protect the QB better than they did last year is if this marks the endof the Howard OT experiment & Howard, Ingram, Tomlinson, & Scruggs are better than they were last year.
So we think. Took a while before that other Iowa State WR began to contribute. True Jaylen & Jayden are more talented.
Again, I'm excited & hoping for the best. But the next time things go right for the Texans will be the first time things go right for the Texans.

Scruggs and Broeker will compete at the guard positions. One of the two may not make the team. But Ingram, I'm thinking, should be able to displace them at RG and Tomlinson at LG.
Tytus Howard will most likely compete for a starting role at the LG and RT positions. If he's mostly recovered from his injury (CnnD thinks he may not fully recover to his preinjury form) he may displace Tomlinson or Fisher. Swing tackle may be his spot.
Trent Brown may not make the team, especially if he is not recovered from his injury. If he is, he may be the swing tackle. But he's competing against Fisher, Howard, Robinson and Ersery for a spot.
Our new bemouth of an OT, Ersery, will be given first shot at displacing Robinson at LT. Could he be moved to LG? Good question, but he was drafted to likely to be our future LT
Patterson seems to have a lock on the C position. Scruggs will be the backup.
That's 10 offensive linemen. It's unlikely we carry more. I'll have to, later, take a look at who else we have on the roster to see if anyone may have a chance to beat one of the ten out. Broeker being the most likely to lose his spot on the 53 and with Brown also vulnerable.
Any who, these are my thoughts.

They are throwing a lot of vets at the OL this season with the hopes they fix the communication issues that plagued the Texans last season until they moved Howard to guard. Their best configuration was Chargers playoff game with Howard LG and Scruggs RG then they moved Mason back into the lineup and we saw how that turned out.
I am not expecting a miracle turnaround to an elite OL. But I think they can be a little better than 2023 good. They have more talent than that unit did. Then Slowik outsmarted himself and there was unearned starting spots awarded to young players.
True competition and smarter coaching will be the biggest help. And of course it would help if the young OL already on the roster (Scruggs, Ingram, Patterson, Fisher) naturally improve with another year in the NFL.

New offensive coaches this year, so hopefully a better offense and a better coached oline. That's the theory at least, and it does sound good. So far.
If they can do a better job of getting the best 5 on the field it would be a big improvement over last year.

Caserio said that noone on the staff knows how the line will shake out, and that's the best news I've heard. (My feeling is that Scruggs is the most vulnerable.) I want to see pure competition for each spot.
Training camp should start that way, but let the best man win.

I was pleasantly surprised when the team finally got around to trying Patterson at C, Scruggs at RG, and Fisher at RT. The season didn’t start this way, but the right side had some pop late in the season.
The biggest blunder in the playoffs, inserting Mason back at RG instead of leaving Scruggs in place. Mason managed to take all the pop out of the right side. Left side was still no pop in the run game.
I really hope they bring the right side into camp as the starters…..the key, they’re competing to keep their names on the board as starters. Still got to earn it.
Caserio brought in enough bodies to fill the LT and LG spots. May the best men win the starting gigs.
I hope they allow Ersery to develop at a pace that puts him in a position to supplant Robinson by mid season….if Robinson isn’t upping his production.

It Trent Brown is healthy, he's your starting RT. Put Ersery next to him and those are 2 huge athletic people movers.
I think everyone should go back & watch Tytus Howard in the Chargers game. Until then I felt like he saw himself as a tackle & played Guard because of need. That game, looked to me like Howard was feeling the Run game.

I agree about Brown. He'll be one to watch in camp. I'll have to refresh on his injury and prognosis going forward. I do think Fisher is penciled in as the starter, right now, with a wait and see for Brown.
Ersery has only ever played LT. I'm hesitant about moving him to the right side, but we'll see once camp starts. But whether RG or LG, it'd be significant if he could play at a high level at guard and win a starting spot.
