If at 25 "___________" is there I would take them! (Regardless of need)

So you draft a guy to replace a very good vet you just traded for?
Wut? Of course you do if the vet you just traded for is on a one-year deal and at 28 will expect a huge extension if he is any good at all. Why would you not replace that guy with someone that should be a superstar at more than one position. I may not even understand your question.

Everyone is yammering about drafting a tackle and a guard and we just traded for two vets. That's your scenario.

He's really not though. His instincts are through the roof.

Lots of really great athletes who aren't always around the ball.

Weaknesses

  • Drifts through games without urgency at times.
  • Inconsistent downhill trigger in run support.
  • Block take-on and pursuit angles need improvement.
  • Gives too much ground to blockers instead of bypassing.
  • Hip tightness limits transition quickness in space.
  • Average instincts and route anticipation.

Those read like athlete over football player to me.

Walter Jones/Orlando Pace/Tony Boselli/Trent Williams are/were generational. Alt is very good. Generational not so much.
Jonathan Ogden, Anthony Munoz, as well. That's what they look like when you draw them up. 6 guys in 45 years? That's generational.

But if you can't get a guy like that, give me a street fighter. Like Joe Jacoby or Jimbo Covert. A guy that's going to beat your arse for 60 minutes.

😅🤣😂 have you even watched him play? Some of the comments I'm seeing I just don't understand. He is considered an elite ball player at his position
Yup, and honestly the closest comp I have for him, and yes I know different positions and all, is Clowney. Flashes but never developed the fundamentals because he was always the freakiest athlete on the field. Emmanwori will make a highlight play but I have concerns about the fundamentals.

And in regard to him playing in Houston, I don't see the fit after the Pitre extension

Remember the game Brown knocked Steelers great James Harrison out of the game and broke his jaw, would Tunsil do that ? I think not, because Laramy was a finesse kinda guy, a gentle guy you know what I mean ?
Who's the best comp for Brown in this Draft ?
Josh Simmons and my guy Charles Grant.

Not making an excuse for clowney but his injuries did impact his play. Even more importantly I think his attitude was a huge deficit for him. Petrie is not your free safety nor will he ever be. He is a really good Nickelback who might earn his contract. I am not advocating taking E in round 1 over left tackles or Golden but in the right circumstances I could see it.

Gardner-Johnson had the third most interceptions in the entire NFL last year with 6, I think you're underrating him by a mile. We also just drafted Bullock last year who had 5 INTs and was tied with Stingley, and Calen is only going to get better. The secondary is already going to be a nightmare for opposing QBs, without committing a 1st round pick to our teams absolute strength as a unit.
GJ is a very good player and if I knew he was signed for two more years at a reasonable contract I would agree with you. Yet he is not nor will he be in my opinion. I would gladly replace him after this year with a veteran in E.

Agreed, but don't forget he took 2 years before he started looking like the answer at LT. I think there are people that think a guy is going to come in and be a dominant force at left tackle... The odds of that are incredibly low for that to happen no matter who or where we pick in the draft. Heck even generational Joe Alt played RT this year.

PS. Every time I see the word generational I get a little queasy. I've decided that generational now means 1 year in modern football language for how often it gets misused.
I 100% agree and why I am pushing Charles Grant in round three. As far as generational, we can only use the terminology that the people in the industry use.

So one guy's (who's got his fair share of whiffs like everybody else) opinion.. cool.

So I'm supposed to take your word that his instincts are through the roof (which is completely unmeasurable) but ignore someone who watches more tape than everyone here combined who holds a different opinion. Why?

Are you without any whiffs in your evaluation history?

I never asked you or anyone else to 'take my word' for anything. I just stated what I thought. You can toss it in the trash if you like.

And of course I've got whiffs, everybody has whiffs. I said exactly that.

So did I. But you definitely said "His instincts are through the roof" which I don't believe. So one hand we have someone who commits more time to this process than we do saying his instincts aren't all that versus people on a message board saying his instincts are through the roof. Forgive me for taking someone else opinion over yours.

You don't have to apologize for having a different opinion. It's ok.

Hey BB you really need to loosen up, take a break, and give your sense of humor some breathing room.
You do have a sense of humor, right BB ?
No I think my humor has been evident over the years. As mentioned in the news thread, you should quit calling people names. You frequently insult people and then just shrug it off. There is no reason to call anybody DEI especially with the connotation it has today.

Why did Nick use one of our 30 visits on Grant?
Because he's thorough? Nick drafting a kid out of William & Mary would be a major departure from previous years. Is it impossible, probably not especially when we look at some of NE draft picks whilst he was there; but I don't think it is likely. The kid from Uconn makes more sense to me, if I'm forced to pick a small school player

I think there is a certain irony when attributing DEI intentions to adding white members to a predominately black group.
There's absolutely no ill will in my remarks, just maybe a tease of the PC line.

I have not seen anyone posting about white players versus black or anything similar.

I think you're arguing just to argue, but it's a 2-year deal and he has already proven that he is good. (He also plays nickel CB, so I'm not sure what Emmanwori does that Gardner-Johnson doesn't.)

And come on now, with the last line. If I ask you to point to what was wrong with the offense last year, and you don't end up at the OL then I don't know what to tell you. So people wanting to improve the weakest unit on the team are 'yammering'? I can't believe you feel comfortable going forward without any high draft picks invested, and the band-aid vets that were already signed.

Heck, I want to have a roster where it's BPA heavy...we're just not at that point yet. Spending a 1st round pick on a safety (that we already nailed last year) simply isn't in the cards.

You think that due diligence for Zable a round one projection would be the same for Grant a round three projection?
Depends on how much they value the center position. If a team wants to fix their C position then Zabel is a top 14-18 pick IMHO.

no.. I am saying a round 1 projection would call for top 30 for a small school guy but not a round 3 with other choices probably available.
If my goal is to fix the center position then Zabel is a top 15 guy

This is the reason why I won't have a problem if Zabel was the pick. Dude's smart and that was really an issue last year.

With this said, give me Loveland or Jackson at 1-25. These are my guys and I would do what it takes to get one them. I value playmakers. Essentially an instant up grade over what that's currently on the roster of course if Banks fell to the Cowboys at 1-12 I would trade up for Banks
