Late round gems - 2025

Texansphan

Football connoisseur
Each year us draftnik/armchair GMs comb through the draft looking for value in the later rounds.
This thread is for those guys you believe will make it in the NFL.
I'll kick of with a few I have dug up.
WR
- Xavier Restrepo (4)
- Jaylen Noel (5)
- Nick Nash (7)
LB
- Cody Simon (6)
- Jay Higgins (7)
RB
- Dylan Sampson (4,5)
- Cam Skattebo (5,6)
S.
- R. J. Mickens (7)
All these guys had notable 2024 seasons and could improve their stocks with good school prodays.

I think the information is out on the following and are no longer sleepers but day 2 (2nd/3rd)

- Jaylen Noel (5)
RB
- Dylan Sampson (4,5)
- Cam Skattebo (5,6)

Jacory Croskey- Merrit RB
Jackson Slater OG/OT
Jack Nelson OG/OT
Jordan Phillips DT
Elijah Roberts DE/DT
Jack Kiser LB
Robert Longerbeam CB
RJ Mickens S
Jabbar Muhammed CB
Jaylin Smith CB

I've posted these in the draft forum

Ricky White - WR - UNLV - Good slot WR and outstanding special teams player.
Logan Brown - OL - Kansas - Late bloomer who has the measurables and solid 2024 tape.
Jacory Croskey- Merritt - RB - Arizona - One full season at New Mexico, older RB (24) that would have been a Day 2 pick with more exposure.

Majors Texas teammate Hayden Conner is another to look in late rounds/UDFA. Doesn't look pretty but gets the job done. May be able to backup at OG/C/RT.
I think Nick could look at Connor as an undrafted free agent.

I like Majors however his measurements don’t transition into the pros very well. he has an outstanding career at UT and I had him in 3rd round untill I saw his lenght

Suggest you not look at his arm length only. He is a very football intelligent individual who handled a pro-style offense at Texas. He called the line as the Centers do for Texans and did so for both Ewers and Archie Manning successfully.
He was a finalist for Campbell award the equivalent to the Heisman for offensive linemen.
He did not miss a game iirc and blocked for at least a couple thousand yard rushers while playing in the SEC.
His lateral movement is extremely quick in mirroring his opponent. 6 feet 3 inches 306 combine but should carry more if needed. He will not of course blow up massive nose tackles but I don't think that is exactly what we need.

I agree with what you are saying as that is what I said to myself. I scrached him only because of his lenght however if we draft him I will be on his bandwagon. What round would you take him?

4.. if we had a 4th. Actually, I am now of the mindset of selecting Zabel who would start immediately over Scruggs at Right Guard and be able to play center if needed.
That was my thoughts also however with the left OT open I decided to select Banks or Simmons. I really like Zabel as center so the #25 has some real possibilities for long term OL help.

I am just concerned that neither Banks nor Simmons will be at 25 due to the need for left tackles and guards. I wish I was a little bit more confident that Robinson would have a healthy year.

If you are saying Stingley's foot injury is as big a gamble as Robinson's knees and foot, I understand but disagree.
The difference is in the money and length of contract.

Robinson was able to play a full season last yr, what makes you think he's got bad knees and I do know that he has had ACL surgery in the past.

Noel, Restrepo, Skattebo, Sampson are all rated top 3 rounds. A couple are top 2 round ranked..Isn't this supposed to be in the draft area? Not trying to be rude, but I have had many threads and seen many moved similar to this.

The rounds I have them in are from CBS sports as of the date I posted the thread.

Johnny Walker. DE - Missouri. Very productive player not invited to combine that I consider a real sleeper who should be available mid-day 3.

This is a very deep RB class and there are several I think we be available day 3;
Kyle Monangai - Rutgers (Dog)
Brashard Smith - SMU (RB, WR and KR)
Jaydon Blue - Texas (his 40 time may move him up to day 2)
Jacory Crosky-Merrit - Arizona (tore up the Senior Bowl)

Here are a few of the names I'd root for on Day 3 (and yes some of these go against Caserio's trend of only taking Power 5 school guys)

Jalin Travis, OT, Iowa St
Carson Vinson, OT, Alabama A&M
Carter Runyon, TE, Towson
Thomas Fidone II, TE, Nebraska
Brashard Smith, RB, SMU
Yahya Black, DT, Iowa
Jamaree Caldwell, DT, Oregon
David Walker, Edge, Central Arkansas

Josh Williams RB LSU

Montreal Johnson RB Louisiana

Demand Demas WR A&M
This kid is good, but his weight worries me. Feed him an NFL diet and get him in the weight room. He honestly has very good traits.

I have more to post, but wanted to include scouting reports if I could

I like Montrell Johnson a lot in the 7th.

Not familiar with Demas.

I know this is a deep RB class, but I reckon the Texans are looking to the future and may take a back early in this draft as an eventual replacement for Mixon.
This will break from Texans' usual practice of only taking backs in the late rounds.
They need to find out this season if the guy they are about to draft is gonna have the goods.
I believe they have their eye on two in particular:-
Kaleb Johnson
Quinshon Judkins.
I like both these guys but it will come down to scheme as to the eventual winner.

Love these guys.

Take a look at Jarquez Hunter, he probably could be had in the 4th and I dont see a lot of difference between your guys and Hunter.

Mac McWilliams should be available on day 3, and he's got some real upside at corner. He ran a 4.41, so he's no slowpoke. He'd likely start fourth behind Darby, but by next year, if not later this year, I think there's a good chance he'll be your first guy off the bench.
