Yeah, they need to add a Jalen Carter/Chris Jones type player inside. After thinking about this, if they dont go OG in the 1st rd I hope they go DT.

What I really hope they do is add 2 of these guys.

Rd1. Jackson/Booker/Zabel
Rd2. Collins/Alexander/Nolan.
 
Not sure how Banks and Loveland fell to first two picks but i’ll take them if there! Maneuvered a bit in the mid rounds to add/improve late round picks.

Banks slots in at LG as a rookie and potential Tunsil replacement in the future.

Loveland immediately becomes the second option in the passing attack and gives team flexibility to let Schultz walk.

Double dip on strong DT class to keep the strength a strength on that side of the ball.

Add in Smith as return man/mismatch weapon on offense.

Wells is a YAC guy who has played in multiple systems. Worth a flyer here.

Harris a developmental CB prospect. Older for a rookie but good length and production.

Maneuver you did, first four picks are all off the board, where selected.

Like idea of taking a first round tackle with LG chops to replace Tunsil year two. SteelbTexan prospects, Donovan Jackson and Alfred Collins could fit that bill.

Run Darius Alexander pick up #58.

If Shemar still there #90 or another DT like Oregon Jamaree Caldwell would be one hell of a way to rotate DL, younger, cheaper and more talented.

#90 would be a nice spot to address safety need with Penn State Jaylen Reed, 6-0 212. Perfect system fit for Texan DB room, smart sounds like a Texan. Tired of being handcuffed with expensive often injured Jimmy Ward.

Landry has draft crush on Nebraska TE Thomas Fidone, 6-4 241pass catching TE specialist. Stoots likes Jackson Hawes, Georgia Tech 6-4 252 top tier blocking skill set with soft hands.

I believe, if LG- Donovan Jackson was to become a first pick target….Texans might be able to trade back in RD1 or inside the top 6 picks of RD2, pick up another pick or two and still be in a position to select Jackson (Ohio State). It’d be a heck of a start for the Texans on draft day.

Ok. If Grant goes before they draft. Collins in the 2nd/ 3rd is possible. Shemar Turner will be there also. I wonder where Dylan Horton is in all of this.

Lance doesn't indicate what it takes to move to 1.16. But from the Draft Value Chart, the Texans would need to include 1.25 + 2.58 and get 1.16 and 5.153 in return.

As much as I would like the Texans come away with a high caliber O-lineman such as Banks, they are not in a position to make a move like that. Too many needs to trade up. I would suggest a move down into the 2nd round and take a guy like Ohio State's Donovan Jackson, instead.

Agreed on moving up, but if you want Jackson then pick him at 1-26. Trading down is a RS thing where you lose the guy you really want because you thought you were the smartest man in the room.

With the cap situation combined with needs, I think Nick needs to acquire more picks. And the best bet to do that is moving out of the 1st. I don't see a lot of difference in the caliber of players between 1.25 and 2.50. The Texans are sitting at 6 picks, and I'd like to see 8 rookie contracts on the 51 come week 1.

He never should have rated that low period. He was productive size/speed freak that most of the football world knew before the combine. I would be mildly surprised Nick made pass the middle of the first round.

If Walter Nolan slides to #25 run to the podium.

Booker is less than uber athletic, but he is both enforcer and culture fit filling position of need.

Royals is my favorite WR fit to Texans. If Booker taken early, I would still take him #57th overall.

Brashard Smith is weapon out of backfield and punt returns.

Fidone II still here? Doubtful, another run to podium moment.

Downs is stout 6-4 269 productive, strong 32 reps, edge and special teams thumper.

I'm more into getting long term impact players than filling needs.

Jackson is a 10 year starter. You dont trade away from a guy like that. Now if Caserio wanted to trade out of the 2nd for a 3rd and a 4th, or a 2025 3rd and a 2025 4th I could get on board with this.

3. Savion, Noel/Higgins/Harris are gone
4. Trade for Mayer
5. Best CB or RB available.

Let’s just say that the trading of LT- Tunsil was a real surprise today. It definitely changes the focus of the draft.

Caserio has been busy getting DT’s via FA. This too would adjust the draft approach.

I made a radical trade to get back into RD1 (aka Caserio) to ensure the team has answers for the OL.

Texans get 3 answers for the OL. Nice TE. Pure speed at RB and WR. A solid DE to work behind Hunter. A big and plenty fast SS to develop in 2025 while he cuts his teeth on ST’s.

Rd 1 Jackson (Height: 6 - 3 | Weight: 315 lbs) - I know everyone is nervous about the plan at LT but I selected my target starter who I have highly ranked and IMO is the top IOL plus can play LT in a pinch. I have no anxiety from the Kenyon Green pick, Jackson is legit.
Rd 2 Alexander (Height: 6 - 3 |Weight: 305 lbs) - Explosive player who may be a rotational piece in year 1 but in year 2 he's a starter and provides stability on the DL where most of the current players are on 1 year deals.
Rd 3 Arroyo (Height: 6 - 5 | Weight: 250 lbs) - Athletic and versatile TE who would be the long term plan at the position. He stays on the field on both pass and run plays. Schultz should be on the way out this year or next and Jordan has been injury prone.
Rd 3 Horton (Height: 6 - 2 | Weight: 196 lbs) - Time to replace some of the underwhelming WRs currently on the roster. Horton has enough burst and speed for separation and makes catches over the middle. He has height and body control. May be a tad bit early but I look at this as our rd 4 pick.
Rd 5 Hunter (Height: 5 - 9 | Weight: 204 lbs) - This is my favorite mid to late rd RB in the draft. Physical with good contact balance, vision, has good hands as a receiver along with 4.4 speed. Plus, the team has an out in Mixon's deal after 2025 that would save $8.5M. Hunter is the one who I could see as his replacement if it comes to that.
Rd 7 Hassanein (Height: 6 - 2 | Weight: 267 lbs) - Late rd DeMeco project. He's raw but has shown flashes with decent production as a DE at Boise St.
Rd 7 Brooks (Height: 6 - 2 | Weight: 184 lbs) - WR prospect who was a top recruit and spent time at Alabama before transferring to Louisville. He's a playmaker who knows how to get open without being a speed guy. Also contributed to special teams while at Alabama.

Apologies if my question has been answered elsewhere, does Arroyo's injuries to both knees concern you? I know since then he did well last season.
 
Uggh, just did a simulation and found that both Josh Simmons and Banks were gone in the top 12. Anyone have a pot smoking video for either of those LTs? :tedc:
 
Here's my mock 2.0. In hindsight, I think I may have gone Donavan Jackson or Zabel at 25, but I'm good with Egbuka. As per usual no trades.

25 - Egbuka - Known more as a slot receiver, and I think that might be his eventual home, but for now, he slides into the outside, as probably the Z receiver. And can do some slot work as well.

58 - Marcus Mbow - Versatile lineman. Shorter arms, so not a tackle outside of emergency situations. Probably a candidate for RG, but could vie for C as well. Might be a slight reach here, but the pickins were slim.

79 - Henderson - Steal here at 79. I had O tackle on my mind, but I couldn't pass up the second best RB in the draft at 79. Great pass blocker as a back, but way better than Dare, and when he comes in...no more tell. He can run, pass catch, or pass block. Great 1-2 punch with Mixon, and eventually takes over for Mixon.

89 - Omarr Norman-Lott - DeMeco loves undersized penetrating DT's. (that's what she said) and he's got one here. Probably more of a rotational guy who comes in on passing downs and can eventually fill a pass rush/disrupter role from the inside.

166 - Jeffrey Bassa - This is a shot across Harris' bow. He's a somewhat similar type of LB who can man-cover and run. Will LB. Starts as a backup...but has the ability to start sooner rather than later.

236 - Jacob Gideon - Developmental center who could be a steal IF the coaches can get him going. Experienced small school guy at Western Michigan. Known as a good run blocker and a mauler. Starts at the back of the line, but has a chance to eventually start.

241 - Patrick Jenkins - A developmental DT for DeMeco - again sort of that penetrating high-motor type. Might fall to UDFA status, but his high motor and potential high ceiling in the right environment are worth a draft pick to ensure he's here.

With Tank Dell's late-season injury creating uncertainty at receiver, the Texans select Egbuka to serve as an immediate playmaker for their young quarterback. Polished as a route runner and dangerous after the catch, this Ohio State product can thrive in the slot or as a "Z" receiver opposite Nico Collins. Even with Laremy Tunsil gone, Houston believes Tytus Howard can solidify left tackle, freeing them to focus on the skill group early and the interior O-line on Day 2.

In this mock, the Chiefs trade up to 1.24 and take Josh Simmons. Banks goes to the Bears at 1.10.
 
No trade mock. I could see Nick packaging picks to get his guy(s) day 2 however.

1.25) Donovan Jackson - Squeaky clean interior OL prospect who showed he can kick out to LT against top competition if needed. Set him and forget him at LG.

2.58) Walter Nolen - I want best DT available right here. Such a deep draft and I think there is a long term starter here if the team takes a swing. Would package picks to move up for best DT available to create a long term problem for offenses. Nolen was best DT in this mock and would get the opportunity to take advantage of lots of one on one looks during his rookie contract.

3.79) Treyveon Henderson - Again target a deep class and get a great value here. Henderson is absolutely “Texan worthy”. Team player that reunites with CJ and gives the Texans unique options in the RB room with Mixon and Pierce factored in. Takes away telegraph of pass when Dare enters the game on 3rd downs with added big play element. Immediate impact player.

3.89) Jalen Royals - Best WR available here. Royals is a TD maker who can play inside and out. Get guys like this and see if they can break into the rotation.

5.166) Jackson Hawes - It was between Hawes and Fidone here. I chose Hawes because there is a specific problem I want solved: Physical blocking at the TE position. What better way to help the post-Tunsil OL than getting the best blocking TE in the draft to operate as a 6th OL who can leak out and catch passes with development by the former TE coach Caley.

7.236) Alijah Huzzie - Nickel back prospect who plays with the “SWARM” mentality. Take a swing here and see if the coaches can develop him into a contributor.

7.241) Aaron Smith - Former WR turned LB. Has the athleticism to cover RBs and TEs. Take a swing and see if DeMeco can turn him into something.

PFF 3 round mock. Again no trades.

1.25) Loveland - BPA at 25. Compared to Laporta, effectively becomes WR 2 in this offense. Give the former TE coach Caley a high end TE to start his OC career.

2.58) Shemar Turner - Like the last draft I want best interior DL available here. Turner would fit like a glove on this DL. Relentless player who gives DeMeco another chess piece that would stress OL for all 4 quarters.

3.79) Tate Ratledge - High floor prospect at RG. Bring him in and he’d be the favorite to win the job and help change the OL identity.
