2025 Mock Drafts

22. Houston Texans

Wyatt Milum, OL, West Virginia

After C.J. Stroud's rookie season where the offensive line played fantastic, the interior has been a real problem this season. Wyatt Milum is a perfect solution to their immediate problems as he projects better to the interior, but can give you tackle flex in a pinch.

22. HOUSTON TEXANS: T WYATT MILUM, WVU

Milum has served as the left tackle for the Mountaineers, but his lack of ideal arm length for the tackle position suggests a potential move to guard at the next level. This transition would suit the Texans well, as they have one of the league's weakest interior offensive lines this season.

54. HOUSTON TEXANS: DT ALFRED COLLINS, TEXAS

86. HOUSTON TEXANS: OL CHARLES GRANT, WILLIAMS & MARY

26. Houston Texans 8-5

  • Donovan Jackson, G, Ohio State (6-4, 320 pounds)
Right guard Shaq Mason has been shaky at 31, and left guard Kendrick Green is a pending free agent. Jackson is a nasty, powerful run blocker who can move well in their system.

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 310 lbs.

Class: Junior

Fit: The Texans' defense under DeMeco Ryans isn't a dominant unit, but they're still having their fair share of success and turning teams over at a high rate in 2024. The talent is young, and the ceiling is high. But if the Texans are going to fulfill their potential as a big-time annual problem in the AFC, getting a penetration defender on the interior would go a long way.

Derrick Harmon is exactly that — and is close to having some monster numbers on the inside. Putting him on the Texans' line, with their speed off the edge, would create a lot of headaches for opposing coaches.

Pro Comp: DaQuan Jones

22) Houston Texans

Kenneth Grant, DL, Michigan

The Houston Texans have an elite duo off the edge with Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. That said, they’d be smart to find some interior defensive help in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Kenneth Grant is a reliable run-stuffing 1-technique defensive tackle who has thrived at Michigan. He has a massive frame and maximizes it with refined hand usage and a low center of gravity. For someone who’s pushing 340 pounds, he’s also incredibly athletic.

22. Houston Texans

Jonah Savaiinaea | OL | Arizona

Another team that needs help along the interior of both lines, the Texans need more of an explosive disruptor on defense, and the best interior defensive linemen on the board are space-eating nose tackles. That should turn them toward the offense, where Savaiinaea would be an immediate upgrade at guard, helping improve C.J. Stroud's protection.

Watched him draw one penalty for hands to the face but otherwise a load vs Penn State. Has power/length ratio that translates to starting interior NFL Defensive Linemen!

Here’s my 1st mock draft for the season:

2025 Draft

1.OL Wyatt Milum- experienced OL. Would draft him to play interior until we move on from Tunsil
2.S Kevin Winston Jr- great tackling safety to pair with Bullock. He is coming off of injury, so we’d have to see how his medicals are
3. RB TreVeyon Henderson- great vision with explosive capabilities. He would be excellent to have behind Mixon, but he might be gone already. Although I don’t know if NC would draft a RB on day 2, but I love his potential as a prospect

4.DT Alfred Collins- athletic DT that could use development with his pass rush
5.CB Nohl Williams- tall CB with great hands. He had 7 INTs this past season and could be good depth in the CB room
7.WR Zakhari Franklin- productive WR when he was at UTSA. Had a good season at Illinois.
Reliable hands with good route running

Not yet firm on prospect evaluations but like how this one turned out. Harmon gives DeMeco a high end talent on the interior DL. Adding him to the DL room gives another blue chip prospect on a rookie contract to keep the defense elite.

Hit OL back to back with Milum and Greene. Both guys who can move well and should fit ZBS scheme.

See both as guard prospects who can kick out to tackle in the pros. Can change the players as we get closer but point is you have to fix the OL. Add some players, change some coaches, whatever it takes!

Ferguson gives a nice developmental weapon at TE. Ability to move on from Schultz and roll with Stover/Ferguson.

The Moores just BPA back end of the draft from big schools. Could see them conceivably make the roster.

Nick gets his big time players from big time schools per usual.

If Milum was to be at our round 2 I would be amazed and over joyed!

25) Warren. BPA. Need difference makers and none better than Warren at pick 25. Will be a reliable option for C.J. going forward that can’t be taken away by bad weather in the playoffs.

58) Jackson. C.J. needs better protection on the interior OL and Texans go get one of his old body guards here. Ten year starter upside for Jackson.

89) Moore. Big time experience and alignment versatile. Would go much higher if not for ACL tear wiping out 2024. Moore completes the Texans “legion of boom” and inserts himself into the league’s best secondary every 3rd game or so Ward is injured. When Ward is playing he can take Boyd’s spot on ST :)

126) Smith. A much-needed playmaker. 3rd down back but experience at WR means he can line up with Mixon and create mismatch opportunities.

166) Williams. He’ll go higher after combine/pro day but again just add a playmaker.

242) Pegues. Really interesting DL prospect from SEC school. Converted TE set SEC record for touchdowns by DL scoring 7 TDs as a short yardage specialist. 14 TFLs as a DT. I want to see what DeMeco can create out of this athletic ball of clay!

2025 NFL mock draft: Mel Kiper's Round 1 pick predictions

25. Houston Texans

Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State
Here's another player who missed most of the 2024 season. Simmons was out after six games with a left knee injury. Had he stayed healthy, I think we'd be talking about him as a OT1 candidate in this class. He's consistent in pass protection and drives back defenders in the run game.
Houston's pass protection was anything but consistent this season, allowing 54 sacks (tied for third most). Quarterback C.J. Stroud was constantly on the run. The Texans have left tackle Laremy Tunsil under contract for two more seasons, but Simmons could fit in at right tackle or even a guard spot for now before potentially taking over on the left side down the road.

I'm all for bringing in Simmons and putting him at LG for a yr then letting Tunsil walk. Drafting Simmons (Who's the best LT in this draft IMHO) also would allow Caserio to cut Howard.

I'd be happy with either the best available WR or OL prospect in the 1st and 2nd. If Diggs isn't coming back, they need a No. 2 bad, since Tank is too injury prone. A WR and 3 OLs wouldn't be out of the question IMO. Maybe a project TE with freakish upside that you can gamble on

I’m fairly confident that targeting Simmons would require at minimum a 10 spot trade-up. Could require more capital than the team would want to part with.

How would you feel about an off-season like this? I know this is unrealisic but it would solve the Texans OL issues for yrs to come.

Sign Tylan Wallace in FA - Ravens WR
Bo Melton FA Packers WR
Trade for Mark Andrews. TE

Draft
1. Booker - OG Alabama
2. Daylan Everette CB Georgia
3.. Anthony Belton OT/OG North Carolina St.
4. Brashard Smith RB SMU
5. Ricky White WR UNLV
6. Drew Kendall OC/OG Boston College
6. Luke Lachey TE Iowa

This would give remake the TE/WR/RB rooms, add quality and depth to the OL. They also would get another top tier Georgia CB.

I'd be over the moon if that happened. All that is is missing is a DT or two

Cant fix everything that's wrong with the team in one offseason.

Gotta fix the offense even if you have to go overboard a bit.

BTW, I changed out RJ Harvey for Brashard Smith. Smith is a better 3rd down back. Former WR, runs hard, has a lot of Achane in his game.

Some great OT's have had 32 inch arms.

32 inch arms are fine for an OG.
Simply not true. The average for offensive tackles who have been drafted since the folks at the Combine started measuring is 34 1/8 inches. Most guys with arms that are shorter than 33 inches end up playing guard (or even center) in the NFL. Have no issue with Milum kicking into OG just not in first rd. Joe Thuney is not considered a OT, rather All-Pro OG with 32 1/4" arms, who kicked outside due to injury is the anomaly.

Thuney has done well.

Joe Thomas says hi.

I think of Milum as a possible stud LG that can play LT in emergency.

2. Daylan Everette CB Georgia
Everette returned to Georgia.

One of the latest players to follow this trend is defensive back Daylen Everette. Who announced via Instagram that he will be forgoing the 2025 NFL Draft and returning to Athens for one last season with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Everette was a starting cornerback for Georgia this past season. This past year, he had three interceptions, two tackles for loss and 58 total tackles. The Bulldogs have lost quite a few members on their defense this offseason to the draft and to the portal, so getting back Everette is a big boost for next season.

Yep, going to be difficult to get a starting OT after top ~40 while WRs can be found round 3. Hope we can get at least one guard in free agency.

That would be the dream pick IMO, but I doubt he slides that far. If he and the Ohio State WR are gone at 25, I wouldn't mind trading back. Maybe get Golden later, use the extra picks on an OG or two

If my target was gone, I’d probably lean towards selecting Ohio State LT/LG Josh Simmons to fill a major need. He’d compete to start at LG in 25 and would move over to take LT in 26. Might as well prep for the inevitable.

2025
LT- Tunsil
LG- Simmons
OC- Kelly
RG- Patterson
RT- Fisher

2026
LT- Simmons
LG- Scruggs
OC- Kelly
RG- Patterson
RT- Fisher

2027
Hopefully the same unit from 2026.

He's at the Senior Bowl, so yeah he came out. But is he a TE or just a big WR?
Great question and I consider him a big wide receiver for the Texans and not a tight end. He can't block very well but neither can anybody else we have. He is an amazing receiver with over 1500 yards if I remember correctly and a huge average per catch. I would love to have him on our roster under Chip Kelly in Stroud throwing him the ball. He has really good skills.

I think he will make a great chess piece in a WCO.

Slot WR, H-Back, some in line TE, FB.

A very valuable guy.

I understand his potential value and the benefits his versatility brings, but a large part of me want a TE than can actually block. I don't need him to consistently wipe out DEs, but I'm sick of seeing a TE whiff on a block and CJ taking the hit.

With Warren and Loveland likely off the board I prefer Arroyo to Fannin, wouldnt be opposed to Hawes (Hayes?) the kid out of Georgia Tech either (in addition to Arroyo not as a consolation prize)

How would you feel about this type draft?

Rd.1 Zabel, Because Booker and Jackson are already drafted.
Rd.2 Bech/Royals or Tez Johnson
Rd.3 Rivers
Rd. 5 Hawes.

The offense would look much different and this mock is possible.

Although my desires for offensive guard in free agency is lessening, I would certainly like to be able to draft some of Egbuka, Fannin, Golden , Harris and Bond.

I’d be very curious as to what some pundits would peg Laremy Tunsil’s trade value at.

I only found one that had it at a RD1-13, but included that based on his last 60 days….the value could be more like a RD3 pick.

Like a lefty pitcher, the value will always be there, even if he’s a one trick pony. So I’m not sold on a RD3 assessment, regardless as to how I view him.

If the Texans were to get an offer that was a mid RD1 offer, I suspect that the offer would not include additional picks or a player. His contract makes it tough b/c he’s not a complete LT for that type of money.

If a team like the Pats could trade 2-33 plus more for Tunsil they would do a trade in a heartbeat.
