Texans vs Chargers AAR

After reading the KC Swifties board I hope the players and coaches are as overly confident as they are.

I get it, if Mahomes is upright the game ain't over.

Thats why I hope our defense hurts him and hurts him some more. (Hurt him, not cause injury) Difference being, make him not want to get up.... not render him incapable of it.

It seems some believe that we are afraid of playing KC. IF there is any team I truly "fear" us playing from the AFC its the Ravens.

This KC Swifts team has to be the least intimidating two loss team in history.

That's not to say I believe we win... going into Swiftie territory and walking away with a win won't be easy.

But man would it feel good to know it was a long drive home for KC fans after a loss they never saw coming.
The only reason I'd rather not play KC, especially in the playoffs, is referees.

refs are gonna ref...

Make it so the refs cant steal it.... I thought so many here were all about "No excuses".

IF you need the refs to call a perfectly clean unbiased game to win you will be sadly disappointed every time.

Should the refs be unbiased and more about the intent of the rules than the letter of the rules for the integrity of the game? Yes... but you got a better chance of seeing a unicorn farting fairy dust than a truly level officiated NFL game.

IF we are serious about "No excuses" F all the excuses, go in and take the win they try to keep from you.

Dont say "No excuses" but cry foul over refs.

Concuss Mahomes even if you have to take a penalty. That will level the playing field, then it will be the Wentz lead Chiefs and the Refs against the Texans.

We could be beating them like a drum and the refs are gonna throw a flag to alter the momentum and the game… just like they did in the regular season matchup….
It never fails
But I think our Dline gets to him lots of times. Chargers have a much better line that the Chiefs do… and Herbert was running for his life all day

They were making sht up & got away with it.

Man that was so disappointing last game how they stopped the game, and our momentum to add three seconds. And then to check when Mixon ran out of bounds.

How many times will that happen next game?
This is what I mean… the refs will do what they need to do to help the swifties

I agree with you but you -cannot- deny the reality that KC’s refs are momentum stoppers… wayyyyyy too much. It is akin to the Brady days. Don’t get me wrong… I love me some Tom Brady. Just saying he impacted the rules *in-game*. The tuck rule for example.

Again, we are either going to be the team of no excuses or we arent.

15-2 means that though rare... it can be done... so... do it.

The thing is, if the Texans are going to do it it will likely have to be a blowout like Saturday ended up being. If it’s a close game officiating most definitely can, and likely will have an impact, and I’d bet the farm it doesn’t favor the Texans.

It’s just discussion. Nobody’s making excuses. We are acknowledging a -reality- and we are hoping they game plan accordingly. SteelBTexan offered one solution. CONCUSS HIS ASS OUT OF THE GAME. Yours is what? “No excuses”. Ummm okay.

Just like a suspect line and OC can make a difference in QB growth/performance.

But so many on here said "EXCUSES!!"

Either we are going to acknowledge valid reasons for losing a game and falling off or we are going to be hard nosed "No excuses" and demand nothing less than the best from everyone.

IF two teams can do it.... then... no excuses and demand it from your team... refs and all.

I for one am not saying the refs cant have an impact. I just think that if we are going to be the no excuses team... no excuses. IF you want to blame refs before a game is played... maybe give grace to a second year "kid" that is going to have growing pains.

My "solution" is to beat their ass so bad it cant be stolen.

I thought that was clear.

As far as game planning to make that happen.... Im a guy on a forum... not an OC

As for "acknowledging reality" thats all I have done in saying CJ isn't the only problem and even great QBs need help and opposition said it was "excuses"

All I am asking for is constancy.

It might be that I'm still pumped after yesterday's win, but it's noticeable that we have certain posters who seem to always be lurking and ready to trash Stroud at a moment's notice. When things are bad, they always seem to want to stir the pot and get this board in a frenzy with their criticism.

These posters are quiet today. They can't even post about the defensive performance or the coaching because they cannot complain about Stroud. I'm going on record. If you are too miserable to even celebrate this win and will be complaining in next week's game day thread, keep your thoughts to yourself because it appears you are more interested in bashing one player than cheering our favorite team.

Great win. Go Texans!

I think Azeez being out there, Mahomes won’t be running around as much freely without paying for it. Also, Spags is going to be aggressive and blitz blitz blitz. Those quick passes we saw must continue.

And this is where it won’t be consistent. The refs will chuck a flag for something give the chiefs another down or a first down that will lead to points.

When we have the ball, it won’t be that way.

That’s the inconsistency when you’re playing the swifties
I'm referring to consistency on the board.

The refs will never be consistent.

And who is that? Please say it with your chest. Don’t forget Stroud had a bad first half. He picked it up in the second and that must continue.

What about those of us that stay negative and like Stroud? (Although I am happy for the win still)

Asking for a friend... okay.. Im lying... its me.... it's me.

Tell your friend, negativity and valid criticism is welcomed and part of being a fan. However, if you’re going to criticize when times are bad, you should be able to give credit when credit is due
I saw several critics of Stroud happily posting yesterday… including myself. Such is life as a Texans fan but to try and imply they’re hiding? Meh… weak sauce.

I didn’t pick up on that. Thank you for pointing it out to me. I can be dense sometimes. My apologies.
No worries. I tend to be an opinionated A- hole so I dont have a problem with anyone on here.

On here I am either surrounded by kind helpful people or other opinionated A-holes in which case.... they are my people.

I even like the angry penguin mascot that dislikes everything.

All blended together keeps it interesting.

I’ve noticed that too. They probably had their negativity pre typed up and their finger on the trigger. Unfortunately the Texans balled out and kicked the Chargers ashes. But you can best believe they’ll be ready to hit the send button next week. That’s if we get our butts kicked.

Just in case no one's noticed I'm spelling his name with a t now. Stroud.

Mahomes is deceptively elusive. If there's a sliver of a gap he'll find it. It's going to be tricky controlling the rush to keep him contained. Which is what the Texans tried to do last time.

But I think there's enough playmaker in the front 4 that DeMeco should let them hunt early. Mahomes is going to make plays... we've got to hope our offense can keep it close until the defense wears him down.

And who is that? Please say it with your chest. Don’t forget Stroud had a bad first half. He picked it up in the second and that must continue.
I slightly took offense with Earl34 but then… here you pop up.

Stroud balled like a CHAMPION with the world watching. I don’t care if he snorted a line that sparked him… the point is… he was SPARKED. Fumble… picked it up… rolled out… FIRST DOWN TO HUTCHINGSON!!! That’s what I’m gonna remember. The first half? WTF?

I see your point. My apologies, Earl34.

And that also applies to Slowik. Every negative offensive play seems to always be his fault, like the fumble by Mixon. But every positive play, no credit to Slowik. I am so sick and tired of all the negative posts on Slowik. I want him gone after this year but stop beating a dead horse. I give him credit for making some adjustments like all of the quick hitters he called.

Not if Mahomes doesn't know what day of the week it is or where he is.

I’m not implying anyone is hiding. I’m just making an observation that it appears some posters take more pleasure in criticizing and trying to be right than enjoying a win.

During that putrid 1st quarter, the majority of us were critical and rightfully so. You are still posting and enjoying the win. So, obviously, I wasn’t referring to you.

Only reason posters are wanting to make excuses before the game, is because they've seen what the refs do to help the Chiefs in the past and dont expect that to change next weekend. BTW, when is next weeks game?

I give him credit for making some adjustments like all of the quick hitters he called.
I will not! I think Slowik had help. In fact, he was probably -forced-. I’ll never give him credit for -any- of this year. He failed at his job. He needs more coaching experience before retaking any OC duties.

Haven't seen much of the Penguin around these parts lately.

The Queefs are beatable, but they have the horseshoe up their ass and constantly skate.

Really hoping that's not the case next week.

**** Kelce. Most hated player in the league since even before their success and Swift ****. Dirty scumbag *****. Don't mind the rest of the team.

We have to play a clean game. Do not beat ourselves, do not give KC any extra help. Any hit on Mahomes will have extra scrutiny, etc. No false starts or other crap. Don't do anything to get positive plays negated, etc.

This is the play I was referring to.
Great play design by DeMeco! T² blitzed between RG and RT. The tackles are taught to pick up the inside rusher and since the line didn't shift protection, probably expecting the TE to chip, that left WAJr free. I think that's what happened. You can see that Alt is starting his drop but then focuses on the blitzer

Good point. Most of my posts since September have been negative... That defensive perfornance against the CHargers was very IMPRESSIVE, as was CJ Stroud.

The Texans last scoring drive for a touchdown was 14 plays for 74 yards and took 6 minutes and 56 seconds off the clock. It started with a 5 yard pass & ended with 13 consecutive runs including one scrambling run by Stroud & 1 QB sneak. The rest was all Mixon.

The Texans ended the game in a victory formation after 15 straight runs, 1 interception & 1 touchdown. I call that exerting your will on the opponent.
