Texans random thought of the day

You quoted players from a completely different era from 30 years ago. And again I say, bulletin board material TODAY is a myth. I’ll give you an example of something today. Guys aren’t trying to constantly hurt Deshaun Watson because of his words. Players hate him because of his actions.

Watson is a bad example on your part. Not everything revolves around him.

The absence of trash talking other teams prior to a game in this generation is more evidence that coaches tell players don’t give them any more than they need.

Agree to disagree.

And the Hakeem example was a poor one as well. Robinson of all people didn't smack talk Hakeem and give him bulletin board material. Hakeem was pissed that the MVP voters selected Robinson over him.

When I posted about CJ's initial comments, I was not pointing to its potential trash talking effect. I questioned the wisdom of negatively commenting on a fellow QB who has earned accomplishments over a 17 year career that most NFL QBs can only dream about.

Rodgers played college football for the California Golden Bears (where he set several career passing records, including lowest single-season and career interception rates[1]), before being selected in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers, spending 18 seasons with the team.[2] He is regarded among the greatest[3] and most talented quarterbacks of all time.[4]

After backing up Brett Favre for the first three years of his NFL career, Rodgers became the Packers' starting quarterback in 2008. In the 2010 season, he led them to a victory in Super Bowl XLV, earning the Super Bowl MVP. He was named Associated Press Athlete of the Year in 2011,[5] and was voted league MVP by the Associated Press for the 2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021 NFL seasons. Rodgers is the fifth player to win NFL MVP in consecutive seasons, joining Peyton Manning, Favre, Joe Montana and Jim Brown. Rodgers has led the NFL six times in touchdown-to-interception ratio (2011, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, 2021);[6] six times in lowest passing interception percentage (2009, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021);[7] four times in passer rating (2011, 2012, 2020, 2021);[8] and four times in touchdown passing percentage (2011, 2012, 2020, 2021);[9] three times in total touchdowns (2011, 2016, 2020); twice in touchdown passes (2016, 2020)[10] and once in yards per attempt (2011) and completion percentage (2020).[11]

Rodgers is first on the NFL's all-time regular-season career passer rating list, with a regular-season career passer rating of over 100 (the first to ever have a career rating over 100) while also having had the highest passer rating, the best touchdown-to-interception ratio and the lowest passing interception percentage in NFL history throughout the entire 2010s decade. In the postseason, he is second in both touchdown passes and touchdown-to-interception ratio, fourth in passing yards, and fifth in all-time passer rating. In the regular season, he has the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in NFL history at 4.52,[12] holds the league's lowest career interception percentage at 1.4 percent[13] and the highest single-season passer rating record of 122.5.[14] Rodgers is also a four-time winner of the Best NFL Player ESPY Award.

I mean to post this to be applied to the context of a one-year NFL experience itself...........not previous life experiences.............

I don’t know. It seems like Rodgers brings crap on himself. He doesn’t need CJ’s help. Besides he didn’t make these comments game week. That’s five months away. By then his own teammates and fans should be tired of his 40 year old ass.

Unless he’s winning then that’s all you’ll hear.

Agree to disagree. Players at that level are ultra competitive.

Bad examples. These guys were one man shows that were fed by their 4 other teammates. Rodgers is one of 22, 21 with more personal game assignments than getting worked up over benign comments that really were directed on their behalf and we’re really just a summary of volumes of similar opinion.

It’s a thing for maybe Mahomes and Brady where you could tangibly say that. Other than that, it’s not a thing. Seriously. Guys are paid to play. Words are not a bigger motivator than money. ALOT of these guys are friends off of the field anyway.

Now, regarding Rodgers? I’ll bet you many players in the league, MANY players feel the same regarding the comments. You probably have players on the Jets wishing they could play with CJ. Hell, you have Micah Parsons begging to come play here. CeeDee Lamb’s mother publicly posted that CJ is a better QB than Dak. This is a non issue. Players throughout the league love CJ.
Agreed, on the crap talking, but why talk crap when it serves no purpose?

Regarding Lamb's mother, that's no revelation, Dak is this generations Moon. Great during the regular season, during the playoffs not so much.

Agree. That would be like calling someone dumb as dirt.

True. I was aiming for the “you don’t want to give your opponent any more motivation than they need” angle.

At the same time, wouldn’t the Texans get Rodgers best effort no matter what? If Stroud had said, “Aaron Rodgers is like a football god to me. He’s perfection in a football uniform. I’ve never seen the man throw a bad pass. Not even in warmups.” The Texans would still get the best Rodgers has to give.

No.......DeBakey. :foottap:

I thought you were saying DeBakey AND an associate 2 guys were hell to work with...
Both he and Cooley as you know, had long history.

whoops!

I'm not sure how appropriate or wise it is for CJ especially at this very neophyte stage of his career to be offering such commentaries. I speak for no one else.

C.J. Stroud dares to criticize Aaron Rodgers
Published June 4, 2024 09:40 AM

Most hot takes about the NFL come from people not currently playing in it. Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is at the cutting edge of a new dynamic — active players who are willing to speak their mind about other active players.

Appearing on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Stroud offered a frank assessment regarding the completed career of Eli Manning and the soon-to-be-concluded run of Aaron Rodgers. Stroud said he would rather have Manning’s career.
You want the rings, dog,” Stroud said, via USA Today. “Eli got two.”

But it goes deeper than rings.

“You know what I think it is?” Stroud said, via JetsXFactor.com. “I’ve talked to Tom Brady, about this because he’s a good mentor to me. . . . What he told me is his teammates, and how he treats his teammates. And that’s where I think it falls off. We don’t know how Aaron Rodgers treats his teammates, but you can guarantee that Tom Brady treats his teammates right because how he got those rings.”

Stroud also said that another quarterback who, like Rodgers, has one ring, might have won even more with Rodgers’s supporting cast.

“If you give Matthew Stafford a chance like Aaron Rodgers had, I guarantee you he might have had more rings,” Stroud said. “I think he would have like three or four.”

Stroud tried to tread somewhat lightly on the teammate issue, especially since we’ve picked up some anecdotal evidence over the years regarding Rodgers’s relationships with teammates and others in his inner circle. Greg Jennings and Jermichael Finley, for example, have been candid. And even though Stroud opted for something less than full candor, he surely said more than enough to catch the ear of the notoriously sensitive New York quarterback.

Rodgers undoubtedly will find a way to respond. He won’t be able to help himself.

This hurts more than usual criticism because the call is coming from inside the house. Rodgers can’t brush off Stroud’s words as those of a hater who never accomplished anything in sports. He’ll have to meet Stroud on the merits, unless he can come up with another way to dismiss Stroud’s assessment.

Meanwhile, the Texans face the Jets on Halloween night, in New York. Hopefully, C.J. will be wearing an Eli Manning jersey as he walks into the stadium.
He's kind of put in an impossible situation here. What would you rather him say? He'd rather have MVPs than Superbowls?

Being a Houston Texans fans and seeing what a QB like Mills vs Keenum vs Stroud has on a team I must put more of a premium on the QB position than you. Carr, Osweiler, Hoyer, and Weeden too. Wait - I forgot Savage.

Then I look at who the Texans have gotten a chance to play against - Manning, Luck, Mahomes, and Brady.

The QB position is the one position the team goes through. That position makes a team sink or swim. Similar to in basketball having the 1 guy that does it.

Just because everyone has said as much as in the media and social media thinks it or says it doesn’t mean an opposing player gets a free pass.

Maybe I am just overly competitive and unrealistic. I envision Rodgers circling our game and writing Stroud says I could have won more. And then you have a more focused, determined and angry Rodgers wanting to win.

Because when I look at Rodgers I see someone who would do that.

But I could be wrong. We shall see.

I think players have different levels that they can play at. For example there are players that play harder in the playoffs vs regular season. How often do we hear - “That game was their Superbowl!”

Hehe, I think by the time of the game Rodgers will be too busy selling the next #randomgate as fact. "Our world is secretly run by Koala Icecream Sellers from Saturn! #SaturnKoalagate"

The Jets game is several months away. Do you think man bun dude sitting in his Malibu home is rocking back and forth in his lawn chair, eyes dim with hate, is planning to get even with CJ and will hold that anger for five months? Yeah you must put more of a premium on the QB position than I do. Premium psycho.

You never heard of a player circling a game? Even players holding grudges against teams that didn’t draft them or against the players that went before them?

Thought it was interesting that during the Coordinator interviews DC Matt Burke unprompted name dropped Mario Edwards not once but twice.

Just thought it was intriguing because Mario Edwards was one of the random journeyman/vet DT signings we made during this offseason who has bounced around the league quite a bit and was someone who I didn't really expect to make the 53. Him getting name dropped like that is probably a good signal that he's showing some good things in OTAs and maybe has a decent shot of making the roster after all. Obviously it is just OTAs and a lot can happen during training camp and preseason games but I'm now going to keep my eye on Mario Edwards a little more now.
Noticed Mario getting another shoutout this time from Denico Autry

Also been hearing Tim Settle's name a lot when it comes to the DTs. Don't hear about Folu quite as much.

Will Anderson: Rookie CB Kamari Lassiter is electric, I’ve been amazed
By Josh Alper
Published June 6, 2024 06:42 AM

The Texans struck gold in the 2023 draft by adding players like quarterback C.J. Stroud, edge rusher Will Anderson, and wide receiver Tank Dell to the lineup and Anderson thinks they did it again in the second round this year.

Cornerback Kamari Lassiter earned a reputation for being tough in coverage at Georgia and he’s shown the same knack when faced with trying to interfere with Stroud’s passes this spring. That’s put him in the mix for a starting job right out of the gate and Anderson gave a strong endorsement of what he thinks Lassiter can do in Houston’s secondary.

“I’ve been so amazed by him, man,” Anderson said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “He’s been making plays left and right all over the field. He’s electric, man. Another young guy that we can’t wait to keep seeing grow and stuff like that. And I think he can do great things for this defense and be a part of something special that we have going on here.”

Head coach DeMeco Ryans called Lassiter “relentless and attacking” on the field, which has him “trending in the right direction” as the team wraps up their offseason work. Assuming he picks up where he left off come training camp, Lassiter’s likely to see a lot of action this fall.

610 Sports Radio has fired Landry Locker.........he will be missed.................NOT!!!!!!

I would have thought you liked him. He took shots at Watson and Quincy Avery. He wasn’t thrilled about the uniform makeover either I think. Isn’t he the one Hannah was taking shots at?

Hannah may have got him.

You described the takes of quite a few radio personalities...........some only behind the scenes. His takes on football itself have been down right stupid.

Was he fired? All I am seeing is that he is leaving 610 to concentrate on his youtube podcast The Locker Room.
Was there a specific incident that led to Landry's dismissal? If bad football takes would get you fired, all you would hear on Houston sports radio is static.

When radio broadcasters go onto other projects by choice, they usually give at least a little heads up to the exit. Landry was here today, gone tomorrow.

From what I've been able to best determine, this was building up and finally came to a head. He was critical of too many aspects of the Texans front office, player moves, long-standing riffs with Mulugheta's boy QB coach Quincy Avery (not to mention Watson and Mulugheta himself) , and questioning Stroud's recent comments regarding Rodgers.

He would reserve or emphasize many of his negative comments on his podcasts which many fans did not follow but were aware of.

Cant be critical of the NFL cabal.

I avoid 610 because of John Lopez’s laugh. And Seth Payne’s philosophical takes. Stoerner says a bunch a words without saying anything.

And because they are never downright critical of the Texans. I want the bad with the good.

Thank you.
I did see it mentioned that he said "I got canned" on one of his recent podcasts.

I happened to be out today during the Lopez show, and the guy that replaced Landry may be worse. He was going on and on about how Will Anderson may have put on too much weight and bulk, Saying that Anderson previously weighed 234 lbs.

Will Anderson has not weighed 234 lbs as a Texan. His weight is listed on the Texans website at 243 lbs (which I think is low). Anderson came in at 253 at his combine (which seems right). But whatever it is, it's not 234 lbs. And the guy (Sean something) repeated that number a dozen times, at least. And thought Anderson maybe should not play above that weight. And none of the other morons on the show corrected him.

Why are we treated such buffoonery on Houston sports radio? These clowns opened up the first 20 minutes of their show trying to determine who spat tobacco on the bathroom floor at the station. And sponsors paid for this.

That's just one of the reason's I don't listen to sports talk radio any longer.

My main beef is how often they go completely 100% off-topic. They will tease something for the next segment that sounds interesting...and then I come back over and for the next 10 minutes, I'm treated to some sort of juvenile locker room discussion. I have a 60 second rule. You have a max of 60 seconds to get back to the topic...or I'm turning the dial and unlikely to come back. I get that it's hard to fill all of the day parts with 100% sports talk...more so this time of year. As it is, some stuff will need to be repeated. But they must realize that most of the listeners are coming and going. Even during football season, I listen to music most of the time. I also listen to audio books at times. Any talk radio...in a best case is the 3rd choice for me. So if I decide to tune in...I'm giving you my valuable time and I expect that you don't waste it. If you do...I'm gone.

In any event...by this weekend or early next week, I will go into my annual hibernation from all things football for about 5 weeks. No sports talk radio, no youtube football takes, no football podcasts, no Texans Talk. Sometimes I do a small amount of lurking here...but that's about it. It replenishes and renews me. It's like anything you put away for a time - when you come back to it, you're more excited and ready to go.
