This was an issue at the end of the Kubiak era, imo. We overspent on avg talent that worked for Kubiak. Then he & the owner got sideways on personnel, Kubiak was out & we were in a position where we needed to rebuild/retool with no money.

As long as they don't overdo it to keep the gang together, we should be fine. Going to have to make some tough cuts.

Yes they were and 99.9% of the members on here said that as well.
They had a lot more talent on the roster than most people realize. The defense in particular had Greenard/Collins/Cashman/Harris/Petrie/Stingley/Nelson/King/Thomas. Just needed to draft WA and sign Rankins/Ward/Perryman in FA.
The offense had building blocks They just needed to find a QB that could play slightly above avg and all of those close games they lost could become wins.
Health should've been the biggest factor and although this team has been decimated by injuries, Stroud's been better than anybody could've dreamed he would be to makeup for the injury issues.
They just believe what garbage the media spews.

On paper we were, we had a bunch of kick the tires guys and rookies. Top it off we had a rookie QB coming in with a rookie HC. I don't blame anyone on this board or otherwise for thinking we had a bad roster. I mean hell we had the number 2 pick in just the last draft and would have had the number 1 if Lovie and Mills didn't suddenly remember how to play football. I think most people thought we were trending way up after hiring DeMeco and drafting CJ and Anderson but I don't think anyone really thought we would be this good.
I said after the FA/draft that with slightly above avg QB play and good health they would win 10 games. That's a sign that after FA/Draft I thought they had a good roster. Although I didn't like the WA trade (1-12 Gibbs and 2-32 LaPorta, plus 2024 1st) I didn't have a problem with Caserio giving up the Texans pick instead of the Browns pick.
Looking back on this I'm happy with the WA trade because you cant put a value on the leadership WA has given and will be giving the defense for the next decade.

as a rookie? Payton threw like 26interceptions as a rookie. Stroud threw 5, 3 of those in one game.
I remember watching Payton as a rookie, and I thought he definitely had something and I felt he would be good, but as rookies, CJ blows Manning to shreds.
