CJ Stroud year 2

This is the reason why I was passed at Slow last week. He’s not utilizing the same game plan every week. He switches it up and it cost them last a week against a lesser opponent. You have to have faith in your philosophy to get it done every week. You have to make teams stop you before making adjustments.

The home/road splits will be a concern until proven otherwise against a team besides the Jags.

For me, the question that I had about Stroud was how good an NFL starter he could be. I knew the whole "ball placement specialist" thing would translate to a mid-tier starter. The 2nd half today was give me the bleeping ball and follow me to victory spit.
I wrote before the season something to the effect that we know CJ can pass the ball accurately. What we didn't know is how tough he was. What happens after he gets hit and sacked a few times? That can be a dealbreaker for young QBs. I said this prior to all the O-Line injuries, so maybe I wrote this into existence.

Now, we know. Stroud gets better after getting hit and sacked. He gets mad. And gets some special power, like Ms Pacman eating a pellet then taking out the ghosts. Don't make C.J. mad NFL teams. It will not work out well for you.

From the NFL site:
NFL Research: Stroud became the only rookie in NFL history with 400-plus passing yards, four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a game.

Out of all the things CJ is doing, the not throwing interceptions thing just frickin amazes me. Some of that I know is luck, but damn, to do what he's done so far is just crazy for a rookie.

A laxative often adds to pain initially yet when the turd is gone, one can then enjoy the next meal.

Confuscious?

Nah.. just me

CJ’s performance this past week reminded me of when Arian Foster ran all over the Colts in the first game of the season when he was first named the starter. It was amazing to watch Foster go off and amazing to see Stroud go off. Stroud’s is definitely special because it is such a valuable position.

Great to see both.

Just a little cautionary note here fellow fans, this ain't gonna happen every game and he will have a bad one every now and then.
So far, this is his best game and may be he may not ever surpass it but it does bode well this future.
We have a keeper.

I get what you're saying, however. . .

This dude is 8 games into his NFL career and he's blowing up records.

I think Texans fans have earned the right to drink the Kool-Aid.

JMO, but enjoy the ride and let it take us where it takes us. These are the good times that we should never take for granted.

I don't want to become the boy that cries wolf, but 17 rushing attempts is a poor idea. The Chiefs are consistently 20th or below in rushing attempts throughout Mahomes career in KC. And this is despite the Chiefs usually playing with the lead. Mahomes is getting hit way to often because of it. Only 12 sacks, but he has been hit an additional 35 times while passing and has made 42 rushes.

Yes, Stroud has not been hit that often (18 sacks + 21 hits + 20 rushing attempts). Stroud's pocket time is a ridiculous 2.0 seconds. But the Texans still need to slow the pass rush down. And the best way to do that is to try to run the football. Not a popular suggestion (Stroud won't like it). However, a necessary one. Because with no reason to honor the run, teams will just send free rushers every play until they knock C.J. out of the game.

Precisely bro - and why I keep pounding the table for a reliable run game.
If you become one dimensional, it is easier for defenses to scheme against you.

I took a selfie this morning...

Same! :koolaid:

I'm letting go of the dread from the past and just throwing my hands in the air to enjoy this roller coaster.

I really believe the Texans have fundamentally changed with DeMeco and CJ, so just being a fan is fun again.

I don't blame anyone that wants to wait and slow the roll, but it's just entertainment, and ARE WE NOT ENTERTAINED?! :fans:

And today and from here on forward we can all agree that the last accurate S2 score died with General Custer. 👏👏👏👏🙏🏾

Some of Stroud's performance in the 2 minute warning.

Ravens - Drive started with 1:54 left in the 1st half - FG
Jaguars - Drive started with 1:03 left in the 1st half - FG
Steelers - Drive started with 0:41 left in the 1st half - FG
Falcons - Drive started with 1:45 left in the 1st half - FG
Buccaneers - Drive started with 0:46 left in the game - Game Winning TD

You have to include some recognition for Ryans & his staff's clock management. The Texans have had to burn a few TOs but what can you expect with a rookie HC, OC & Qb. Still overall I think we are head & shoulders above what we have seen with past regimes.

I hope 20 years from now we'll be arguing whether it was DeMeco or Cj that turned this thing around.
