Week 3 Preview with a Jags fan here....

We all know the Texans QB of the future is here now anyways. I won't belabor the point. My point was the Texans now have to take care of their new prize much better, and right now, can't. When the starters on the o-line come back, they will be in better shape. My hope is now that we have our new QB, we don't ruin him in his first year.
The Texans have invested pretty heavily in the OL. They can't prevent or predict injuries. After the bye, we should have a much better idea of how the OL play will be.

Is there any linemen you’d like to see more of and worthy of developing on this roster? Charlie Heck maybe the answer, depending on injury update, on pup now so wouldn’t be able to practice until week 5.
Heck is 27 and in the last year of his rookie deal. Development time is over for this guy. Not sure if he ever sees the field again for the Texans.

I'd like to see something of Broeker and see if he's worth developing
They could also call up Deculus and try him there
With the limited practices teams have, I don't see how. With Howard and Scruggs due to come off IR, roster moves will be made. I see Broeker being released and maybe being signed to the PS.

Texans managed to get their hands on Broeker, so I’d hate to see them try and sneak him onto the PS….I’d almost guarantee the Bills would take him back before we could make an official announcement.

They’ve got to get him on the field before WK6 to determine how he fits with the team.

It was Deculus that came into the game for Fant last week wasn’t it?

Last week? No. Against the Colts, the line played 100% of the snaps - Jones - Green2 - Patterson - Mason - Fant. I think Deculus and Dieter got a few snaps on ST and that was it.

Against the Ravens when Fant went out, the line shifted to Tunsil - Dieter - Patterson - Mason - Jones. (Although the first play after Fant went down, there was a mistake and Dieter played RT and Jones stayed at LG which is why the Ravens got that strip sack.)

I don’t know where I’ve created that memory, the snap count agrees with you guys! My brain tells me different 😵‍💫

Just because they invested heavily does not mean they invested wisely. No way Tunsil deserves to be highest paid LT in the NFL or Tytus Howard the 4th highest paid per year RT in the NFL. Everybody knows how I feel about Caserio, two joke coaching staffs his first two years, squandering Deshaun Watson Bounty in 2022 draft. So just keep on overpaying contracts and missing on talented players in the draft (not including DeMeco's 2023 haul in this past draft) but giving up so much for #3 pick, he has to be more frugal.

I could see Kendrick Lewis/Broeker coming up with an injury and being put on IR.

I'm glad the signed Tunsil, gotta pay for all pro talent. I was against the Howard signing. Why is it all of the bad stuff is Caserio and all of the good stuff is somebody else?

Bottom line is with no 1st/2nd rd picks they got what's beginning to look like a WR1 and took a shot at a QB. For the record I wanted Meinertz.

Lovie came in and Stingley was his guy. (I wanted Neal, Caserio missed on Green, (I wanted Jordan Davis) he also missed on Metchie, Taking a WR coming off an ACL is risky. Sometimes you hit on a guy like Pickens, most times you dont. (I wanted Sam Williams)

He hit on Petrie/Pierce/Harris so that draft was kind of a 50/50 draft with potential to be better. I dont think we should really start judging rookies until yr 3.

This last yrs draft appears to be a really solid draft. 2 star level players and potentially starter level players. WA/Stroud/Tank/Scruggs/Patterson. This a very good draft there although I would've picked WA and traded up for Carter and not started my rookie QB window before the team was built out.

Imagine an offense that looked like this

OL- Tunsil/Neal/Scruggs or Patterson/Mason/Howard

QB- Mills/ QB FA signing of your choice/knowing that you could draft one of Williams/Sanders/Maye/McCarthy and have two 1sts a high 2nd in 2024 and a 2025 1st if needed to draft one of these guys.

RB-Pierce/Singletary Boone

WR's- Collins/Woods/Dell/Metchie

TE's Schultz/Quitariano/Jordan

Defense

WA/Davis/Carter/Sam Williams/Hughes/Greenard/Ridgeway?Hinish

Harris/Perryman/Too' Too' or Cashman

Stingley/Thomas/Nelson/Griffin/Arnold

Safeties

Ward/ FA s signing/Stewart/Murray

You tell me honestly, would the team be in a better place going into 2024? Hannah and the Fan Council were impatient. Oh well water under the bridge.

Wow, that’s a throw back. Like I even care anymore, reality bites.

Sad thing is I do this as a hobby and I'm better at this than they've been.

We could sit down after the college football season and go ver tape/go to all star games an pro days and do better than these guys did. The Texans are still a cluster bleep that are going to end up wasting their QB's rookie contract. Kinda like the Chargers did with Staley and Herbert.

You could do DB's, LB's and RB's, I could do OL/DL/TE and WR's. We would probably argue over QB but that's what Cal would be there for to break the tie.

This ain't brain surgery like some people make it out to be.

BTW, I like Ja'Tavion Sanders early in the 2nd. Stover late 2nd/early 3rd and Erick All/ Brevyn Spann Ford in the 4th at the TE position. All of these guys are massive upgrades as blockers and can catch the ball well. They have varying degrees of speed.

Tunsil is one of, if not the best, LT in the NFL. Howard has proven he's an elite RT. Stingley and Green prove that he isn't great at seeing the obvious.

We'll see if that holds up this Sunday. Looking forward to a competitive, injury free game.
What's the word in JAX of the Jags getting a new stadium deal? Are fans worried they will be moving to London?

This rebuild has been two offseason/seasons that we’re chaotic, aimless, with little development, then one offseason where they seemingly tried to quickly make up for the previous 2. In the end the impatience of the offseason will set the rebuild back just like the previous 2 but in a different way.

This reminds me of a Simpsons episode. As you can almost relate everything in life to an episode of the Simpsons. One episode Homer realized how he wasn’t the best Father and he knew little about his kids, he decided right then to be the best Father. But being Homer his quick fixes fall short ex. He makes a tire swing from a tire from the dump for Lisa and it’s filled with grease/slime. Bart being the straight shooter leans in and says “No offense, Homer, but your half-assed underparenting was a lot more fun than your half-assed overparenting. “ Homer deflated by the reality replies sadly “But I'm using my whole ass.” Someone needs to tell the McNairs that their half assed under-owning was a lot better than there half assed over-owning.

BS, he is penalty flagged and mysterious injury no go. Who know who is the **** is Trent Williams.

Howard hasn’t proven ****. Often injured as well.
Sucks for you and rest of us Texan fans we are not getting fair value in return. Not even mentioning protecting a young, developing, potential franchise QB. You need a mother ******* reality check 🤬

Howard is a good, very solid RT. Great? Elite? Not buying it yet. First, he needs to stay on the field a time or two. Part of elite = staying healthy with only rare exceptions.

But he's way better than any other option available and I was happy he was locked up. This team has a million problems but IMHO Howard isn't one.

Wow. Do you feel better now?

I really disagree with the way the Texans are playing their makeshift OL. They need to be looking toward game 5 or 6 when players start coming off of IR.

Kenyon Green's injury problems really messed up the "previous" long term plan. His replacement needs to be front and center.

Scruggs was drafted to be our long term answer at Center. So when he comes off IR, what to do with him? Some suggest moving him to LG. I disagree. We need to look long term and plug him back into his natural spot at Center and for why we drafted him. But where does that leave Patterson?

Patterson is the player right now we should have playing LG, to see if he may be the answer. Kendrick Green is listed on the roster as C/G. Let him be taking these temporary snaps at Center until Scruggs is back.

After Scruggs is back, we then have the competition between Patterson, Broeker, Green, and whoever else, for starting LG.

Mason is set, for this year, at RG and if not great is at least adequate.

I'd really like to see if Patterson can play LG at a level to be a starter. But for now, starting about game 5 or 6 I'd like to see:

Tunsil...Patterson...Scruggs...Mason...Howard.

Green taking temporary snaps at center lol uh yeah I don’t think that’s a good idea. He finished 2nd to last in bench at the combine. We’re doomed if he’s expected to block the Chris Jones, Aaron Donald’s, pretty much the strongest player on the d line if our starting center goes out. Better to accept we made a mistake and move on asap

When did Kenyon Green take snaps at center?

Referring to Kendrick Green (Green2) signed a few weeks ago.

Did a little goggling and reading draft profiles on Green2. I like what I read. At Illinois, 3 years at LG in a zone blocking scheme. As a sophomore, honorable mention All Big 10 and All America; as junior, first team All Big 10 and 2nd team All American. His one negative, physically, he has 32" arms. His current playing weight is 315, up from 305.

Drafted in the 3rd round by Pittsburg. If I'm not mistaken, the Steelers are a downhill power blocking team. Green2 was not a fit for their system.

At worst, he should be an adequate stop gap for this year. At best, he may be a diamond in the rough.

I like the guys Caserio found when bandaging together this unit at the end of preseason. I just wish they had more time with the team. They are certainly better than the depth options that were brought to camp.

Like I said BL and I could do better than what they've done. Of course we wouldn't have to deal with the McNair's meddling like Caserio has had to do.
I have to say, it is weird you say this, then rail about how the Texans shouldn't have listened to the fan council and instead should have listened to the "football people".

Last time I checked, you and BL were fans.

I didn't say they should listen to me. I said without the McNair's interference BL and I could've done a better job than what's been done down on Kirby for yrs and through several regimes. The bar is pretty low.

Maybe the fan council could and did do a better job? I mean, if the bar is that low.

Unless we find a running game somewhere, we'll be starting the season at 0-3. And Stroud will be wore out before the season ends.

THIS is why I didn't want a shiny new QB this year, I would have prefered getting a QB next year. But the Texans don't listen to me.
Had the Texans listened to you, their odds of them drafting a top 5 QB would've been exponentially better.

Congrats to Stroud on his first win as a professional. Stayed upright and poised, and hit the big plays when they were available. At this point, we'll take your injured/inexperienced OL over ours nine out of ten times. You guys didnt make any critical mistakes, and took full advantage of ours. I probably wouldnt roll out that fullback kickoff return against a competent special team tho. :-) Again, congrats and we'll see you later this year in Houston.

Yeah that play by Beck was one of the most "that was amazing, but never do it again" plays you'll see.

I'm actually pretty sure the coaches said the same to him on the sideline.

I doubt it
Why? You think they want him getting in the way of the actual returner and muffing it on a regular basis?

When seeing the sideline shots and seeing him talk to Demeco I think there was a level of understanding there. It seemed very jovial, "great job. Don't do that again" to me.

No, but if it's kicked to him he's expected to catch it. He didn't muff it nor was Boone in position to field it

Yeah it seemed like Boone was too far to field it and it was coming straight to Beck.

He does muff it and Boone would have got it just fine.

As far as I'm aware Beck's job is to be a blocker not a returner. Unless it's a squib I'm fairly certain special teams are coached to have the returner catch and return punts and kickoffs. Not whichever player is simply closest to the ball.

It also explains why Boone basically runs into his back.
