Welcome to Houston CJ Stroud

Stroud's 384 yards were second-most by a player age 21 or younger since the merger (1970), trailing only Matthew Stafford (422 yards) in 2009, according to ESPN Stats & Information, and it was the highest mark of any player in Week 2. Stroud also had the second-most passing yards by a Texans rookie in franchise history, behind only Deshaun Watson (402 yards) in 2017.

Stroud was pressured on 47% of his dropbacks and sacked six times, but he was proud of how the Texans never game up.

Both of Stroud's touchdown passes came when he didn't face pressure, and he went 22-of-28 for 287 yards with 10.3 yards per attempt when not pressured, according to Next Gen Stats.

Very very encouraged by Stroud so far. But let's be honest... whether he becomes elite and one of the best in the league has more to do with what's done around him. Slowik needs to be better. Nick has to be better IRT bringing in OL talent. I'm surprised by the receivers thus far, but I still think we're missing a #1. Alot of good QBs have played in this league, but were simply put in bad situations, so never met their full potential.

After two games Stroud has the 4th highest total yards passing in the league, but is in the bottom half of the league as far as his rating goes. No interceptions so far.
Still with games tonight, Stroud's Passer Rating is 91.2, placing him at #17 or #18 overall (two different rankings).

His overall QBR is 36.9, placing him #27. His first week qbr was 25.8; his second week qbr was 50.2.

So far, as I said before the draft...I am SO glad we took him over the short guy. And so far, he has out played him in his 1st game (likely to do it tomorrow as well). Glad to finally be able to start to see that we indeed drafted a QB with ice in his veins, a short memory of bad plays, improves his play with each game, is amazingly accurate, football IQ is very high and a very good arm to make every throw.

I very much would not be upset if we use 1 or 2 of our top 3 picks in next year's draft. And get some OLmen who are big, nasty and don't let anything past you.
Who might those be?

Stroud has to continue to improve too.

Draft Worthy/Ja'Tavion Sanders and trade back into the 2nd rd for Mahogany from Boston College and Stroud will have the protection and weapons he needs to be successful. The OL is terrible right now because they are missing 4 starters.

I'm almost of the thought of drafting Joe Alt the Notre Dame OT and moving Howard back inside to OG. Alt is a stud. However, I'm thinking if the OL can get healthy after game 4 the OL will start to look much better by game 6 or so. The OL wont be an issue although a fairly high draft pick should be made for depth purposes.

I'm not disputing that they said leaked scores were inaccurate, but nowhere did the specify that Stroud's were. And that is what I said that you are disputing, or have you already forgotten what you said? Have you graduated high school yet?
Im going to show you just how stupid you are:
Where did he say in his interview that Strouds leaked score IS ACCURATE???
I'll help you out...HE DIDNT. Instead he came out and said that the leaked scores were INACCURATE...which is the opposite of being ACCURATE.
Im going to guess you dont win very many debates with your circular arguments and reasoning.

A couple of you folks need to get an extra large case of midol and go sit in a hot bathtub Lord have mercy. We're bitching and moaning and arguing over a test score now?

Y'all stay away from me on the freeway guys. I ain't got time for your road rage.

Take some anger management pills and call me in the morning.

You win... but I will point out that I never said he (or anyone else) said Stroud's score was accurate. I merely stated that your claim that he stated Stroud's score specifically was INACCURATE was FALSE. Don't you feel stupid and childish now? Don't bother to respond because we all know you won't take responsibility for YOUR words, you would rather just argue that someone else said something they didn't.

It is concerning. But there are multiple things you can blame for it. Let's see how he does when (or if) he gets a decent line in front of him. Just getting Tunsil back will help tremendously.
Thank you. The man is under pressure as soon as he get the ball a lot. What do people expect him to do. At least he’s not throwing interceptions. Is that even a factor in this equation?

With suspect play calling, zero o-line help and non existent running game, Stroud has not only improved, he looks good.

That boy has ice in his veins and if we don't let him get broken in half, he has a very bright future.

I agree completely. CJ is excelling in spite of everything around him being less than mediocre. Only bright spots beyond him are some of the WRs catching his passes.

Otherwise, the running game, o-line, and defense are as soft as puppy poop.

We will see after yr three when David from the inner city comes calling.

Players deserve to get paid. They are the product we watch, not the jackass billionaires getting fat in their luxury boxes.

The D is gassed from chasing all those guys open in the middle of the field.

lol I thought I was watching college ball with the wide open catches with no defenders in sight. That was pathetic. I'm hoping DeMeco is losing his voice today from chewing so much ass after the game. That was a shameful performance.

lol We've got actual NFL games being played, actual footage being compiled, real world examples of the QB in a professional football game. . . and folks are arguing about a video game test that half the league doesn't even bother to utilize.

"Hey, my belly button! Let's stare at it!" :thud:

Its very simple... you along with a few others have gone on to take the S2 testing scores as the bible of all talent evaluations and have harped on Strouds leaked test scores. I pointed out that the owners and developers of the testing had come out to say the S2 scores that were reported to be leaked were inaccurate and not correct at all...I provided a source to prove that and you went on to try and say argue that he never specified that Strouds score were inaccurate..which is true...but if they were accurate he would never have come out and said that his beloved test scores were leaked and inaccurate. Especially when the highly touted Stroud was the score that was in question. Instead he professed how the leaked scores that were reported were inaccurate.
But now that Ive proven my point and "MY WORDS" (that I stand by) I'll leave you to go kick rocks.

It's probably just one idiot who keeps bringing it up but yeah, arguing with him about it is pretty stupid too.

He's excelling at putting up numbers when the games are lost. I dont remember anybody saying anything like this when Mills was doing the exact same thing. The Rams game in particular comes to mind. The WR's are looking surprisingly good. This still wouldn't stop me from drafting a guy like Worthy/Coleman or Nabers.

The OL is in shambles because of injury. No team could get hit by injuries like the Texans have and not have their OL look like crap. The defense is very disappointing. The biggest weakness on the team is the LB's cant cover. Of course the safeties being out only makes this issue worse.

Sure guys deserve to get paid if they're successful. But how much your QB gets paid is a direct correlation to your teams chances to win a SB. The people who represent Stroud are more about getting paid than winning championships, but Stroud knew this when he selected them to represent him, and Hannah knew this when they picked him. But none of this matters to her. So none of this matters to me. I've watched very little of the 1st two games. But hey, I'm not the client they're marketing too any longer. They got their 2 decades of cash out of me. Yep, I'm a dumbazz.

I hope Stroud is the one that breaks the S-2 trend, but I'm in prove it mode and so far nothing has proven to be any different. Defense sucks and the offense can only score in garbage time. Hopefully this changes when the OL gets healthy and gets its feet wet.

Steel, you're not even watching most of the games. You're like the guy with the police radio in his house just waiting for a wreck, and jumping in the truck with your camera as soon as your hear one...then driving by to watch the carnage and call the driver's idiots while rubbernecking.

If you don't like the team or don't want to discuss things without being Debbie Downer on steroids, than why are you here?

I'm not trying to run you off...I'm just trying to understand why you are investing your time in a forum of a team you constantly berate and can't even find a nugget of hope in. Most of us that saw CJ play, so a budding star. If you watched and you don't - great. All views are welcome. But to say...ya I didn't watch most of it, but he looked like crap...that's just piling on for piling on sake. You're like if Siskel and Ebert watched movies with a blindfold on and then did a review of them.

Zach Wilson S2 score is 84%……and yet on sundays he has a awareness of a potato chip
The S-2 isn't a guarantee that a QB will be successful in the NFL. But a QB with a bad S-2 score has NEVER been successful. That's the point. Hopefully Stroud is the guy to break the trend.

Who else scored low though? And wasn’t it reported that Stroud retook the test and scored higher?

I watched the beginning and that was all I needed to see. I enjoy talking ball. What have I berated about Stroud's play since the season started. Tell me if you're being honest doesn't this team look alot like last yrs team? The OL sucks and the sad part is I thought Ryans could build a great defense this yr. The only hope for this yr is that the OL gets healthy and performs like they were paid to do. But until this happens I'm in prove it mode. No blindfolds needed, although I would say there needs to be a reality check.

Has anyone considered the possibility that it's been Stroud making WRs better all along?

Wrong.

Too bad there aren't 300 lb monsters attacking the QBs during the test.

I hear ya. So about the S2 test... 😁

Look, we all know that it was Hannah and Mama McNair that drafted C.J. :kitten:. But just how far back did their plan go? Did they entice C.J. to tank the S2? Making sure he fell to #2? Who would put this past a couple of original River Oaks ganstas like Hannah and Janice? Now, I don't have insider info on this. But, I did ask my magic 8 ball and it said...

BTW, where's the love from the Hannah Truthers on the girls' work? C.J. is ballin' and they deserve their props.
It's certainly possible. I would say health is a big key too.

15% (Mahomes) is the most a SB winning QB has taken up of the cap since 1994. The only 2 QB's to break 13% are Brady/Mahomes. So yes, it matters.

The rest of your post is real cute, I'll give you that.

I’ve already posted how many times Mills was sacked. And it was not at the rated CJ has been sacked in the first two games. I believe Mills was sacked 4 times in the first 2 games. CJ 11 times.
Big difference and Mills wasn’t pressured at this rate either.
Mills also didn't have the talent to throw to that Stroud has. I dont want Mills to be the QB so dont take this to mean that I'm defending Mills in any way. Just pointing out what I said stating last yr, nothing has changed down on Kirby.

Demeco said last night that the boys need to communicate and execute better and that everything was correctable. Hope he’s right..

Thru two weeks he's performing just as some have expected based upon the college numbers against pressure. He's struggling against it, and this is the NFL, pressure is going to happen.
He's going to have to figure out how to cope with it .... or not.
How about we wait until he has his starting line out there before saying that claim is true or not.

Through 2 games, Stroud is the 6th most blitzed QB, 4th most pressures, and he has an average pocket time of 1.0 seconds. Name a QB who "copes" with that shit.

He can’t and he won’t.

I’m watching the Saints vs Panthers game, and both quarterbacks are struggling under pressure.

But hey I digress. They have to stick to the narrative of that reporter. It was a negative hot take so they’re going to drive it into the ground.

Watson and Pickett as well.
