I knew that hiring Steve Sarkisian was a terrible mistake

Buckeye Homer

The guy never did anything at Washington or USC. He's a mediocre coach. He has this season and possibly next before he gets fired.

Who would be a great hire to take his place?

Urban Meyer? Great college coach, terrible for the NFL.

Who else?

Why do you think hiring Sark was a mistake?

Track & Field, Women's Volleyball, Men & Women's basketball, baseball & softball to start with. Not sure how the swimming & diving has been recently
So the SEC move was about softball and diving, and not football? That's an original take.

I think Sarkisian's a bad coach and I think that Texas can do MUCH better than him.
Sometimes, that's the issue with Texas. They have so much politics involved, that they think kids look at the school like a must and they don't. They're doing a better job of acquiring talent, now they must develop the talent. I like Sark, he's come up the hard way. He's made mistakes and hopefully he trends the program up. I actually think Jimbo is the one on the hot seat.

It's more about money than anything.

Texas probably would have went to the B1G except that the B1G wouldn't accept Oklahoma due to their lack of membership in the AAU. Sports revenue is a drop in the bucket compared to the research money that flows to AAU schools and Oklahoma has nothing to offer the rest of the B1G schools in that regard.

Is UT going broke? Has the Permanant Fund dried up? Of all the schools chasing the almighty dollar, UT should be the one making the decisions on what's best for the program. Longer road trips for fans, fewer championships is not what's best.

Yep,

I wish this they looked at things this way. Obviously they don't.

UT developed a frugal spending problem after Mack Brown left. Their faculty frowned on spending big dollars on athletics and the faculty had become rather influential with Presidents Powers and Fenves. This has been the case since UT hired Charlie Strong. Strong and Herman both operated with shoestring budgets compared to previous head coaches. The tide may be turning with a new Board of Regents and the hiring of Jay Hartzell as the new President.

When the Manning kid gets fed up…..he can just transfer straight over to UH and be the face of the University while getting to be the starter upon his arrival.

Sarkisian will write his own narrative at Texas and his past may or may not be a continuation of that.
I was intrigued by the hire to be honest and am looking forward to watching the Manning saga unfold.

Look, I'm as much a Buckeye fan as any of them and love what Urban Meyer's teams accomplished when he was the coach. However, he might be one of the biggest dirt bags out there and would be surprised he sees the college field again at that level. For one, his programs have been mired with poor characters getting passes. Then there was the whole coaching fiasco in Jacksonville. If that isn't enough, the guy ditches the plane ride home with his team to hit up an out of state bar and finger bang some chick through her jean shorts, while his wife and kids were at home waiting for him. People can view that how they like and God knows others have probably done worse, but he was caught in a pic. Just a complete dirtbag.

Urban's biggest problem at Ohio State was hiring his best man to be linebacker coach and watching Greg Schiano FAIL for 3 years as DC. His biggest failure was promoting the OL coach Ed Warriner to OC.

With that said, Urban is a proven winner and would bring in a great staff. Urban would certainly fare better than Sarkisian.

Urban won't get another coaching job at a big time university

I love college football and watch as much as I can. Most of the time I will pick a team I want to win the game and root for them while watching. It doesn't have much to do with the team specifically. That being said, I root for the Longhorns and have for quite some time. I spent 11 of my 21 years with the Army being stationed in Texas and have a great love for my second home. My oldest son was born while I was in San Antonio and always says, "If I don't go to Ohio State Dad, I'm going to UT !!". As a parent, either will fill me with great joy.

That being said, I saw where in 2025 my Longhorns will be coming to Columbus to take on my Buckeyes. My home state love will see me rooting for the Buckeyes in that game, but if they lose to the Longhorns, I won't be all that upset. My Army buddies and their wives from Texas are already planning a trip up to this neck of the woods to catch the game with us. Not wishing time away, but that will be a lot of fun !!

Balancing football with family ?? Yes, it can be challenging with a wife that doesn't really follow it. What's a man to do ?? Well, I made dang sure that both of my boys were knee deep into football from an early age and now it's 3-1 about what's on TV. The wife goes shopping. Winner winner chicken dinner. Jerseys on, snacks out to eat and the three of us spend all day yelling at the TV or heading to the stadiums. Life is good.

Dont send your kids to UT and this comes from a guy who has UT grads in his family.

Oh yeah, so no to UT huh?
My personal preference is that he goes to his old man's school, Xavier.
Good school, close to home, and a basketball University with no football program.
That's half good, but I'm a Buckeyes fan anyways, so I made it work.

You should ask him why he says no to UT

Oh I get that for sure. We started going to campuses last year and he's really stuck.
He was born in Texas, so going back to attend college there has it's obvious draws.
He loves the Buckeyes and we go to many games, so there's that.
Then there's Xavier and it's local and he loves the basketball program.

Honestly, I'm just happy he wants to go to college and has a good head on his shoulders.
Dad will take care of the rest !!

You should talk to both alumni and those with unbiased opinions. The more information you can get about whatever college your child chooses the better
Are you saying I have a biased opinion?

My opinion which has been gained through experience is, if you want to mess your kid up then go ahead and send your child to UT.
