A lot of contributors here are going to be undeniably shocked and presented black birds with white gloves on a silver platter this year... (those half-empty MFers).
10-7 is the baseline/floor.
They should win 10 games this yr.

So I won't be shocked at all. In fact if I cared, I would be disappointed.

Not complaining in any way, shape, or form about last years #3 pick getting some positive comments from this former NFL CB but curious why this particular guy took such an interest in our CB ?
If Stingley were in a big market??? Houston is the 4th largest city in the US. I certainly am listening intently to a "playa" with excellent evaluation/decision-making with a Wunderlic of 9, and 14 babies with 9 baby mamas. Stingley needs a more valid endorser. :toropalm:

If Mills wasn’t in Camp competing for and wanting to win the QB1 job…..then I’d cut his arse versus dragging his uninspired carcass around camp as an extra arm.
Agreed, I think it's silly for these reporters (I saw another article this morning) to expect Mills to embrace a mentors roll at this time.

He was drafted to compete for the starting roll. That's where he is now. Surely he knows he's way behind the 8 ball. But this is what he was brought in to do.

I wish they would have signed Keenum last season. Much better competition than Kyle Allen and greater asset to QB room.

Mills should have gotten more reps in preseason as well last year instead of being anointed starter and put in bubble wrap.

My understanding is they try to get Keenum last year but he was busy preparing for deer season.

But like 7th or 8th from a media market perspective...

The biggest questions on offense are second-year LG Kenyon Green and rookie center Henry “Juice” Scruggs. Green, who was drafted 15th overall, had a terrible season. Of all offensive linemen drafted in 2022, Green ranks 51 out of 59 based on his performance last year. He allowed 47 pressures and 4 sacks while receiving 12 penalties. Green started last year’s off-season with a knee surgery and he had the same arthroscopic knee surgery again this off-season. Hopefully, he is able to recover quickly so he is ready for training camp and performs at the level he needs to, particularly during passing plays.
****
Every time I read something else about Green's rookie season I get mildly depressed and wonder again "what were they thinking ?"
Some are saying they also overdrafted Juice but atleast that's a late second round pick and not in the first half of the first round as was the case with Green.
Yes the Texans have massive a investment in their Oline, maybe more than any other team in the league, so that line has to not just succeed but IMO excel this Fall.

Big body with physical traits. Don’t see him making team if signed however:

Why not? :chef: In his 2019 rookie year, he sustained an ACL in week 9 after having an impressive early season logging in as the team's leading receiver. He came back in 2020 only to suffered what the team reported was a "foot injury." Since then, he has experienced less than stellar performance. In actuality, he sustained a foot injury that makes him an excellent collector's item for the Texans......................a Lisfranc fracture.............

Which is a large market.
Depends on how you look at it. #7 is about 1/3 the size of #1 (NYC), less than half the size of #2 (LA) and about 3/4 the size of #3 (CHI). Heck, Houston is only 90% of DFW and Philly so no, Houston doesn't play in the same space despite being the 4th largest city. We compare with Atlanta, DC, Boston and the Bay Area. None of them are considered "large" markets from a media perspective.

Actually all of them except for Atlanta is considered a larger market. The guy made it sound like this was Jacksonville or something. Just because this isn't LA or NY doesn't mean this is podunk, USA.

Truly elite players will shine and receive extensive national coverage independent of their city's market ranking.
Yes sir and a pretty good example of that is this guy named MaHomes and his right-hand man Jason Kelce who play in the KC metro area which is a much smaller market than Houston and last time I checked they've been getting descent national coverage.

Texans DE Will Anderson not committed to jersey No. 51

May 13, 2023 2:43 pm CT

When the Houston Texans picked C.J. Stroud No. 2 overall in the 2023 NFL draft, smart money said the quarterback would keep his No. 7 jersey number and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn would more than likely switch to another number.

However, Will Anderson wasn’t able to have the incumbent sporting his college No. 31 — running back Dameon Pierce — make the same gesture. The No. 3 overall defensive end has been wearing No. 51 throughout the Texans’ rookie minicamp May 12-13.

The former Alabama product told reporters Saturday he isn’t particularly married to the jersey number.

“Yeah, really just the number they gave me right now for rookie minicamp,” Anderson said. “I mean, just being at Alabama and them giving me the No. 31, my coach told me just make a name out of it. So if 51 decides to stay here, I’m going to do my best to make a name and just be me. Numbers really don’t matter to me.”

There will be another opportunity for Anderson to switch numbers in case they do start to mean more to him. At the end of preseason, Houston will have to finalize their 53-man roster, and in doing so, more numbers that he may like will be available to choose from.

The last Texans player to wear No. 51 was linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, who played 20 games with Houston from 2021-22.
I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on a 51 jersey or Tshirt for Anderson, and if he changes his mind there will be some unhappy customers.

[In response to my highlighted paragraph below] Non contact practice is so near useless,in that when anticipated or actual collision occurs, theoretical techniques easily break down.

DeMeco Ryans expects the Texans' offensive line to be the strength of the team
Mark Lane

May 25, 2023 8:28 am CT

The Houston Texans haven’t been known for their offensive line, but DeMeco Ryans wants to change that.

The rookie coach came from the San Francisco 49ers where Kyle Shanahan built a team known for its road-grading offensive line. Given that Ryans added Shanahan’s former passing game coordinator in Bobby Slowik to be the Texans’ new offensive coordinator, it is not surprising Ryans would like to see the same philosophy replicated in Houston.

“We have a really good offensive line group,” Ryans said on May 23 after organized team activities at Houston Methodist Training Center. “Veteran guys mixed in with some young guys. Right now expect our O-line to be one of the strengths of our team.”

There are key pieces to work with, chiefly three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Houston also has two solid veterans in right tackle Tytus Howard and right guard Shaq Mason. Left guard Kenyon Green, a former 2022 first-round pick, represents potential. The only area where there is a question mark is center as the Texans are relying on a trio of veterans — Michael Deiter, Jimmy Morrissey, Scott Quessenberry — and two rookies in Jarrett Patterson and Juice Scruggs to determine the starter.

Ryans knows that offensive line Chris Strausser and assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich will get it figured out.
Said Ryans: “Those guys have done an outstanding job of getting the guys ready to play, being honed in on the details. Our offensive line, they’ve been impressive to watch over these few practices that we’ve had.”

Offensive line is a position predicated upon collisions, yet the NFL does not allow padded practices until training camp. All that can be evaluated is technique, footwork, and other technical aspects of the unit.

Nevertheless Ryans remains optimistic about how a possible strength of the team is developing.

“It’s been very impressive to watch and see how they’ve come along,” Ryans said. “I’m very excited where they’re going. I would expect them to continue to improve and definitely be a strength for our offense.”

I've commented previously that I expect Mills to rebound and improve. I've also stated that I expect Stroud to start. But what if Mills' improvement is so significant that Stroud can't "win" the starting position. Do you go with the better qb or do you go with the draft pick. I know you naysayers think Mills can be nothing more than a backup,
They're going with Stroud.

The guy had national endorsement deals and even hosted SNL.. rumor is he might even be doing SNF. I think he did pretty well media wise.
I'm not saying he didn't receive ANY attention, but he wasn't nor has been feted like Strahan and Taylor were and are. Aaron Donald is the media darling but the media never mentions Watt did it first. They never mention that Robert Brazille was LT before LT. Look how long it took Dr. Doom to make the HOF. If he had played in NY or Chicago or in the northeast he would have been a first ballot inductee and on the all-time top 100 team
