Welcome to Houston Will Anderson

We did NOT give two firsts to move up. We swapped our twelve pick for their third. We still used our two first round picks. To induce them to swap we did give them our second round pick and our first next year. There was also some swapping of fourth and both round picks, but that's kind of irrelevant. So, we paid our second this year and our first next year to move up from twelve to three. The result is that we wound up with two of the three top players in this draft. I don't see that as particularly onerous to accomplish that.

I ' m excited, really thrilled by this pick but I will grant you that trading two first round picks is controversial especially when it involves a non qb.
It works both ways - I mean if you take Anderson first, you could use those picks to move up for Stroud. Same result.
I think Texans did it this way round for a reason - perhaps if they took Anderson first, it might have pissed off the Cards and they say no to a trade and then Indy takes Stroud at #4.

Reports were teams (Titans) were interested in moving up for a QB. Taking Stroud at 2 eliminated potential trade partners to bid against for pick 3.

I wish there was a way to slip down, still do what we did at 3 and 4 or 4 and 5 or something. Somewhere where we could have traded down and used that capital to trade back up.

Unfortunately there seemed to be no other players that we could have enticed someone to trade up for that would still land us in that position.

I guess we had to do it the way we did it.

Exactly.

You can't look at the trade up to 3 in isolation.

This is why I don't have a problem with the trade. Sure. We may have eaten 50-60 points, but NC took the risk of drafting Stroud first because if he'd have chosen Anderson first, he would have had more competition for that trade. And 50-60 points is nothing if you think your guy (guys in this case) is worth it.

So this trade is like trading up for a QB, not an Edge.

It was risky, but it worked out.

Man I’ve been laughing at them jokers all night. But we all know you can’t please everybody. And we both know one particular member will be grumpy all season long.
I wonder what scenario exists where everyone would be happy? Is there one?

I get being critical of the team. I certainly have no quips about criticizing them .... when I feel it’s warranted. Which it has been a lot recently. I have been no fan of Caserio and have let that be known on numerous occasions. But holy hell man, last night may have been their best draft night in their history. Give them props when it’s warranted too or you’re just an agenda troll. And really, having these “agendas” for something like this makes no ******* sense. You don’t like a guy, fine. But do you even like the team? If not, please feel free to **** off.

Nothing is ever going to be perfect, but man, I bet this team could win the SB and somebody here would have issues.

I dunno but don't you think Casserio was smart with this sequence because if he takes Anderson first then there's probably gonna be a lot more competition for the Cards third-over all if CJ is still on the Board ?
But Anderson cost the Texans a boat load of draft capital and I dunno but I woke up this morning wondering do I want to go buy that Jaguar I still fantasize about owning ?

I don't see a lot of negativity, maybe 1 or 2 people. From what I'm reading, everyone for the most part have been overwhelmingly positive about the move. I know I am!
I'm hearing several being upset that they used a first next year to land him, but you don't get two of the top three players in the draft, one arguably being the best defensive player in the draft, without giving up some draft capital.

The made it clear that not only were they not going to tank next year, but also that they are not waiting 2-3 more years for a rebuild.

Yeah, that was the only way that combo move worked. Take Anderson first and somebody else is going to outbid you for the pick you use on Stroud. It had to be Stroud because clearly nobody was going to back off once Levis was off the board. They all wanted Stroud or Young.

More than one way to skin a cat. This will do. I'm looking forward to seeing if it pans out.

Nor should they. This team has been playing poorly for 3 years and underachieving for longer than that but it does seem to me that with actual NFL caliber coaching there's a lot more talent on this team than it would seem.
