Surprise picks - #2, #12,#33.

These are surprise selections Texans could conceivably make at the aforementioned picks.
Keep it real!
Mine are:-
#2 - Will Levis, Anthony Richardson
Texans may miss out on Bryce Young and may not be sold on CJ Stroud leaving a couple of plausible surprise picks. I would not be surprised if they take WA.
Levis interests me as he has serious zip on his throws and can operate behind a subpar Oline. Richardson is more of a project. I suspect we wouldn't see him start for a while.

#12 - Christian Gonzalez, Devon Witherspoon, Bijan Robinson.
Texans CB group was bolstered in FA with the resigning of Tavierre Thomas and we have Derek Stingley waiting in the wings but if DS is not 100% with the Linsfranc injury, they may seek to take an insurance pick here. Robinson would be something of a luxury pick for mine, but if they wish to move on from Singletary next year, we have our replacement and he can also serve us well as a receiver out of the backfield.

#33 - Emanuel Forbes, Darnell Washington, Mazi Smith.
CB Forbes is a known ballhawk making 14 ints over the last 3 years taking 6 to the house.
With Washington, you might be thinking " but we got Schultz" - yeah, on a one year deal. He can quickly become our #2 TE and be a replacement if Schultz leaves next off-season.
MS would be another luxury pick as I think we have some depth along the DL. He has some pass rush value though and decent big DL guys can be had lower down.
Post your ideas.

Excellent topic and thought provoking.

1.2 Tyree Wilson or Christian Gonzalez.

1.12 Skoronski or Myles Murphy

2.33 Kelee Ringo or Jordan Battle

Not a surprise at the picks but a surprised all were picked.

1.2 Christian Gonzalez great player worthy of 2.

1.12 shutdown corner worthy of 12 but two corners? Reason: only Stingley under contract after 2023 and Gonzalez and Forbes should start day 1 and could be bookends for 10 -12 seasons. Forbes could go before round 2.. sort of as some think Hook may be drafted.

2.33 Drew Sanders as an EDGE even though 2 seasons ago he didn’t do so well. He exploded last season as MLB.

Not asked for but

3.65 Hendon Hooker
3.73 Ricky Stromberg

I can and will offer other suggestions as off to bed. It's 1:15 am and i hope to be asleep before the nights Italian food starts erupting. 😬

If Casserio & DeMeco see no QB in this Draft who really stands out to them, then they just sit back and wait to see who remains
on their Board after the Panhers make theri pick, but however if in their eyes one of these QBs is a player & leader who can be the difference in turning this franchise around then they should make every effort to draft him.

Agree.
It wasn't that long ago, probably only a few weeks, that a fair chunk of the chatter had Stroud coming to Houston.

Another surprise pick at #12 is Keion White ED.

"The thing I like about White is that he looks like a defensive tackle, plays like an edge rusher and runs like an outside linebacker. He's a freak athlete who has somehow managed to stay under the radar, mostly because he didn't play for a college powerhouse. Reminds me a lot of John Franklin-Myers." - Adam Rank (mocked at #12)

#2 - Anyone other than a QB. Anderson, Wilson, or Carter are the only ones I could possibly see here.

#12 - One of the top corners, one of the top tackles, Kancey, Bresee. I think it's possible, but unlikely they'll use another high pick on a corner so soon. Taking a top tackle would be odd, but not outside the realm of possibilities. I like Kancey, but I'd be surprised if they took him this high.

#33 - Dawand Jones as heir apparent to Howard, Jack Campbell, Julius Brents, any TE

The Texans did meet with QB, Hendon Hooker. I don’t think there’s any way the Texans would be the only team Hooker didn’t impress during their meeting. Everybody talks about the first four QB’s (Young, Stroud, Richardson, and Levis) and the idea being, if the Texans don’t select one of these guys, then the round of QB’s would be between RD5 and RD7 before they would look again. Hooker is in the top 3 and could very well find himself being a RD1 selection ahead of both Richardson and Levis.

I honestly don't know who the texans prefer but

You've convinced me OP-Tex I think the Texans should give strong consideration to drafting Hooker if they don't think that highly
of Stroud: I dunno maybe say trade our #2 over all to somebody like Seattle for their top pick (#5) & their two second round picks which would mean we could draft Hooker with our #12 or one our 3 second round pics after after using the #5 pick we got from the Seahawk on the most highly rated non-QB on our Board.

#2 - On offense...Anthony Richardson. I'd be half excited and half terrified. On D, Tyree Wilson over Anderson.

#12 - Bijon Robinson, any oline, Hooker/Levis. - I'd be excited about Bijon, but it's a luxury pick and given the current state of affairs, would be a huge surprise.

#33 - J Gibbs. Again a luxury pick but I'd again be excited about how they can use him. Or just some cat that everyone has as a 3rd rounder (or egads, a 4th) and the consensus among fans/media is huge reach.

....or Texans could go true 3rd down back to compliment Pierce and Singletary by drafting RB/KR- Devon Achane (A&M). They could select RB- Kendre Miller (TCU) later...let him rehabilitate and have him as insurance for 2024.

I've been wondering about Witherspoon at 12, if he falls. Drafting defensive backfield seems like it would be off the table with the guys we've got, but... otoh...

Are you talking about Jalen Carter or Bresee?
Bresee. Carter fat and immature but seems to be using his skills. When i begin to question Bresee some time ago, i read someone saying he was unsure Bresee had heart in playing in the NFL. But I don't have that link. I remember discussing him with a buddy as we were comparing notes on him and Murphy. Our conversation was who would we pick at 1.1 if not a QB. Since then the trade occurred and both Murphy and Bresee have dropped significantly.

Surprise picks?

#2..anyone other than Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.....Would have to seriously question my fandom of this team if they don't select 1 of these 2 guys at 2...

#12...who cares b/c i'd still be pissed about pick #2 not being Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.
It would be worse if the Colts do and either one of them turns out to be good. We will never hear the end of it.

Bryce won't be there (90% sure), and they are passing on CJ if you believe the rumor mill. So, you better strap on your pads because it might be a rough couple of nights!

i think alot of the talk about them not being sold on CJ is just draft tom foolery by other teams trying to get that guy to slip. & with NC saying in the presser yesterday that "we have an obligation to listen" in regards to them having recieved calls for a potential trade down, i wouldn't be surprised if NC wasn't in on the rumors to try and get some team to panic and move up for a good trade down deal. who knows. I think that when it all comes down to it they like him alot & he'll be the guy if he's there. The only pause i have about that not being the case is Demeco may want his game changing pass rush guy so I see Will Anderson having a shot to slide in there....I'd be moderately disappointed but fandom would still be in tact depending on what they would do @ 12.

Not if we have our own QB. If we get Hook then 1.4 plus 2.35 and they are good like Stroud may be good, I don’t care about JC. We cannot stick our head in the sand shivering just because another team has a good player. We build our team then settle on the field.

We trade 1.2 and Seahawks take Anderson. We receive Seattle's first 3 or 4 picks. Nick and Slowik's role is to keep Anderson from stopping our offense.

Carter has half arsed it his whole collegiate career. That's why a guy that talented has put up such mediocre numbers.
I never like drafting guys like this. You can build strength and teach technique. You can't change a player's self-motivation.

If money was a motivator, he would have shown up to his workout in shape. Self-imposed question marks can negatively impact your draft status and, therefore, the size of your initial contract. All he had to do was stay in shape for three months, but he couldn't be bothered.
He took for granted that he would be a top 10 pick... why work at it?

Being young, dumb and full of cum he probably thought he could skate by on the body of work he put in in college.
I have no doubt if he came into a good environment with grown azz men around him he would grow up pretty fast. Plus he will mature.

Why do you believe that? Do you know him?

Its a red flag for a reason. More guys wash out of the league with those flaws than learn and mature.

Carter might grow up and he might mature. That is the risk that I would not take. We will see if some NFL Team in the top 12 Will take the chance.

With the limited info we have causing the flags, I don't take him at 12 even. Won't matter, Philly is gonna take him if he drops some

I like Hooker and I am not against this scenario. I think he is the most under rated QB in this draft. Although he would not be able to start immediately, due to injury, I don't know if that would be an issue. Seems like he would be perfect for Seattle, though.

One more surprise pick I haven't seen mentioned is Joey Porter Jr. CB Penn St.
Has elite size for the position and a 4:46 40.
Has improved each year and now could potentially be the first DB off the board.

I like Banks a little more than Porter, but I can understand if we wanted to find stability within our backfield.

I'd take Will Levis at 1.2 & trade up if I have to, to get Bijan Robinson. Then defense the rest of the draft. We're going to score points in 2023

I didn’t say Porter would be the first db off of the board. I expect Witherspoon and Gonzales to be off the board by 12, and then the next DB to be taken will be Banks IMHO.
No,sorry I piggybacked off your post. The post you quoted sid Porter had the potential to be the first DB off the board
