2023 Free Agency

I wonder what % of the players in the NFL last year missed less than five games? Many got hurt and missed the season for a start.
I don't care how many players in NFL missed games. I care how many players that are going to be Texans missed games.

As i don't care about how many frail QBs were successful in history of NFL, I'm concerned only about those that may play for us.

Others kids got bicycles for Christmas but only mine mattered to me.

Aw man you mean all these Texans quarterbacks not the team and organization 2002-2022 all sucked too.
After all in the end still no Super Bowl ring.

Yea
You know what Porky you really should consider taking up Pickleball or Bowling because I don't think you've got what it takes to be Texans fan, since you are already freakin out just a day into free agency.
Since you rattle so easily try something that's easier on your peace of mind and psyche, otherwise you'll be a total mess when the season starts for real and they begin playing football games.
How is he being rattled if history shows that he is right?

Mail man walks onto porch to put mail in box. A dog runs out door biting him.

Mail man walks onto porch at next house..
Same thing, dog bites him.

3rd house mail man walks onto porch, dog come through door and mail man kicks crap out of dog. Right or wrong..
I can empathize with mail man.

If team had been better, Mills still sucked. If we had better coaches and easier schedule...
Mills sucked.

We’ll never know if he could’ve evolved into anything b/c he never had a better team or better coaching. Think about who this kid had coaching him in addition to all the other seemingly insurmountable odds he had against him. I aint making excuses for the guy, but its hard to not factor in all those things as huge reasons why he couldn’t thrive. Regardless of how the media tries to make it all about the qb play, a huge portion of that has to do with things outside of the actual play. Reality is the position is THE most dependent on other factors outside of the individual’s play.

what will be funny is if we wind up drafting a guy at qb u like, you and whomever winds up being his resident “fan boys” will use the same excuses which will show the inherent bias….but as in the case with Mills, you won’t necessarily be wrong either.

Excepting Watson, all those QBs did suck .
Someone you didn't include .. Case Keenum. In his chances he stepped up. Probably a factor why he is on team a third time.

Al-Shair to the Titans. That’s kinda the end of the major FA’s that I wanted. Didn’t address C is the biggest L that’s gonna have to be a day 2 rookie starting for us next year which could be bad. They’ll have to make a good pick there.

So anyway what's with your obsession about dogs and mail men and besides what's that got to do with Porky pizzing in his pants everytime he disagrees with a Texans free agency signing ?

I don't have to know if Mills would have eventually worked out. I evaluate what i see. He sucked. This roster is not going to be greatly better and most if not all in NFL world will be stunned if Caserio doesn't sign a QB future hopeful to take team further going into 2024. I do factor in coaching and team mates ability. Unlike Keenum who upped his game stepping into role of a starter, Mills didn't. He looked slightly better last few games in 2022 and I thought "ok, maybe. Let's give him that chance to be an average starter with a pro bowl left tackle and rookie RB that until injured, Pierce was thought to be 'hot damn'
And David sailed balls, threw at receiver feet and often caused me to say what the heck are you doing? Pep called plays but when ball hit Mills fingers it's on him and most of the time he sucked.

They all sucked in one fashion or another didn't take the Texans to the SB that's the point. It surely must have been other reasons as well that's the point. We are talking about beyond one player to be a team winner

Obsession? Porky pizzing? I gave simple analogy that as fans we have been bitten by dogs so if another dog acts similarly, we will react. Some of us criticize or compliment based on what we see. Others criticize because of who owner or GM or HC coach is. Others just tip toe thru tulips with Miss Vicky who realizes how ugly and talentless Tiny Tim really is but is just happy to have a friend.

Everyone knows and understands that it is a team effort. Even on crappy team with bad coaching players need to step up. After 2021 i wanted Mill to do so yet he didn't. He regressed. Receiver open , enough oline blocking to launch and Davis still sucked. Why does everyone think Texans need a QB? No one is saying Houston starter was bad but so is rest of team so let's say Texans dont need a QB. They just are not.

This is actually a very good pickup. The Bucs needed to unload his contract and the Texans get a very durable (surprisingly short injury history through his career), quality still very effective OG. The Bucs used him strictly as a RG, but he can play LG just as effectively.
Do you have any concerns about him as a run blocking guard? Or was it just a downturn 2021 season?

More one and two year deals for more jags. It's like deja vu all over again.
I felt the same way this time yesterday but after todays move I didn’t mind it, we upgraded at least 2 and up to 4 positions (depending on how you look at a couple of the players) addressing a couple needs in the process. I am disappointed we didn’t address ILB or Center but ultimately you’re gonna build in the draft

yep, the Texans have had other significant problems than only Mills to move forward. Frankly imo Mills was thrown in the middle of all that organization and bad changing decisions and for that I give him the benefit of doubt aka as a break.
His break is he remains for now on the roster getting a paycheck.

Nick goes back to the dollar store today. He forgot to pick up his travel-sized shampoo yesterday. It's called Shed and Holders.

Maybe he'll go back and pick up a comb and a plastic razor later today.

Meanwhile, Chicago went to Neimann Marcus, SF went to Prada, and ATL shopped at Saks.
Kmart shoppers please notice that we have our blue light special on for the next ten minutes.

Drew Sanders needs to get way stronger he can’t shed blocks he’s not a good tackler misses a ton of them
Yes but 99% of college players need to get stronger so just gum smacking with that. Yes Sanders needs to significantly improve on missed tackles as do many edge and line backers. Let's not overlook in 2022 he moved from edge to Middle Linebacker which caused some of that. He did however make a multitude of tackles and 9.5 of those were sacks. He also successfully defended 5 passes with an interception.

lol, its like the myth of how good Keenum actually is/was grows on this board with every waking year this dude hangs around the league on someone’s roster. Keenum didn’t “up” ****. In fact His stats look similar to Mills’ as a rookie and 2nd year guy; couldn’t even win a game as a rookie with overall better talent around him and a better playcaller in kubes. And AJ even in his advanced age was a better WR than any dude Mills had to throw to. Both guys had a few games where they flashed, but ultimately weren’t good enough to overcome the team talent deficits they inherited.

So if u evaluated what u “saw” then u should’ve also “evaluated” Rex Burkhead providing 0 threat in the run or pass game on 3rd and longs REPEATEDLY…….. coupled with Pep calling booty ass plays too often along with Lovie Smith’s defense giving out 100+ yard rush games like they were free chips and salsa at Pappasitos.

Over the last 2 years Those things were as consistently present as bad overall themes on this team as Mills was consistently…..inconsistent to flat out bad.

like a 48/52 split in who to assign blame to.

(Ben Jones)He's aging, but I think a 2 year deal ala Jimmie "Dyno-Myte" Ward would be fine. Draft a guy late to develop maybe, and you've got Scott Q as a backup for this year.
If they sign Ben Jones Q might not make it out of camp.

Brendel, 30, took over as the 49ers' starting center in 2022 and started every game, posting a pass block win rate of 91% and a run block win rate of 72.3%.

Yeah I could see how people could get excited about a guy like that, even at his age. But... guys like that don't normally leave their team unless the team can't manage the salary cap.

Caan was nowhere close to the player that Mason has been, not t o even mention his chronic injury history. Caan was as bad of a pass blocker as he was a run blocker.
Objectively speaking, yeah Caan was pretty close.

There was no way the Texans were going to make the moves people wanted. We're still clearing the cap that should have been cleared last year.

Need to dump Cooks, need to dump Tunsil... after next season the 2021 draft class is going to want to get paid...wait a minute.

I wonder if there is a stat that shows let’s say all starters in game 1, and then tracks how many miss time, how much, and then average it out so you say for example an nfl starter on average missed 1.6 games. That would actually be an interesting stat. It would give us a baseline for availability expectations. I’m a stats nerd so I’m probably the lone wolf on this lol.
Bullshit stat. You are attempting to put some dumbass stat on fate. The fact that his last few years only show limited nicked up availability vs failed genetics is only you looking to gripe about something that I’m sure you are free of. Hey, let’s only sign players that missed 1.6 games. First, name those for me. You can throw out any bs stat that sounds good but has no basis in fact. Prove your fricken point.

I think Connor McGovern is still available, Center for Broncos/Jets. Could be had for 8 mil or so per yr. About 30 down the list of top FAs available after today.
Colman Shelton, also a Center on the Rams, much further down the list at 90 or so, about 1.5 mil a yr.

Buffalo signed him I believe

I might add it's odd how everyone here hated any former Patriot signed by the Texans during the O'Brien regime and even into Caserio, it was the same with Kubiac and the Broncos during his time, but any 49er player signed it's a different story, welcomed with open arms!
Just an observation.

The same people that are clamoring to sign all these FAs are the same people that whine when we can’t resign our draft picks because we overpaid this year or next.

I can’t wait to necrobump this thread in a few years.

I will say: people have the right to doubt and second guess everything this team does until they prove they actually can run like a competent organization.

Having said that, some of you are miserable. I could never expend the amount of negative energy that some of you put into your fandom. I mean…why even watch or pay attention? Fan how you want though.

More new players to rag on for some..
