lol. I used to be in a bowling league years ago. It got too pricey for me,plus my wife was always sick and we just got out of it but still love it when I do play. I still have my own ball, just need new shoes.

it’s funny you mention pickleball. I was just talking to my GF about it. I looked it up online and they don’t have it in the Woodlands. There is a place down in Spring. I would definitely give it a try. I’m nearing 60, but in pretty good physical condition. If any of you guys want to meet up for bowling or pickleball, I’d try it. Pickleball not so much in the summer though. Too damn hot!
They do have it here! It’s setup on the tennis courts at shadow bend park. I have walked past it recently and seen people playing.

I'm slightly south of the creekside area of the Woodlands so not in the heart of the Woodlands. Is Shadow Bend off of Research? Gosling? Can anyone walk in?

We probably need to take this to a non-football thread or PM me but just as a last comment so we don't mess up the thread - PB requires 4 people right? We need 4 of us then. I've barely seen it and never played it.

Lol, if only it was as simple as you make it out.
Every year dudes like you try to point out the “no state income tax” as an advantage for FA to come play in Houston…& im not sure how it is in other sports, but i know at least in the NFL, These dudes have to pay taxes in every state they play in…so its not this great advantage y’all try to make it out to be.

As far as the other stuff,
no team is super dominant…but the division projects to be super tough in the coming years. both the Titans and Colts are legitimately decent qb play away from being really good teams…The jags appear to be on the upswing with Pederson and Lawrence. Indy will most definitely be in position to draft their guy of the future this upcoming draft..they also get a new HC.
Read much?

AFC South at the bottom means that some players can shine (and eat their cake).

Which team is dominant in this division?

You get here, you have a chance to shine.
And therefore, making more money.
And there's no state tax.
Texas more than makes up for no state income tax with property taxes and school taxes. Outside of California and the Northeast, total taxation is fairly equal between states with no state income tax and those with.

You forget that properties cost much more in some other states, like California and New York.

Did you not see where I listed both states? I've lived in both states, several years each. My 320 sq. ft. studio apt. in Manhatten was $2,700/month.

OK.
But properties in Texas still cost much less than other states, like Nevada, the north, Florida, etc.

Not only that, but also, some states in the northeast have high property taxes just the same.

KPRC2's Aaron Wilson reports the Texans discussing a trade of LT Laremy Tunsil to the Chiefs are "more than rumors".
Wilson notes that while a trade has been discussed between the two sides, it "doesn't mean they will have an actual deal." Any team trading for Tunsil will need to work out a new contract with him, as the three-time Pro Bowler is on the final year of a contract he signed back in 2020. Reportedly interested in resetting the offensive tackle market, Tunsil is aiming to be the highest-paid tackle in the league whenever he signs his next deal. Wilson added that the Bears also briefly discussed a trade for Tunsil, but there wasn't much that materialized from that.

I'm confused...Their young quarterback already in place. But Davis Mills is a POS, and with better stats in the 1st two year comparison.

Mills
83.8 QB Rating
28 Games
5782 Yds
33 TDs
25 Ints

Fields
80.8 QBRating
25 Games
4042 Yds
24 TDs
20 Ints

They have their young QB in place
Consensus is Mills is a POS
Go figure.
It's hard to get around that 1st round status.

Not necessarily propaganda man. Whether you agree or not, ATL and CHI are very attractive places to live & play…….
I don't think that was his argument. The supporting statement was that CHI had an up & coming improving QB & Houston doesn't. He was just asking for evidence to support the claim.

Special Teams?
idnk but found this per rotoworld
A 2017 seventh-rounder, Brown has spent his entire six-year career in Dallas. He breezed to new career highs in 2022, though they were 43 catches for 555 yards and three scores. He was a product of the Cowboys' receiver-needy environment behind CeeDee Lamb. Already 27 years old, Brown has never hinted there is another level to his NFL game. It is a supremely Texans signing.

If Mills was a first round pick, as was Fields, with 2 different bad OC's and HC's with little help in a chaotic organization he would probably be given another year. He waited to the last game of the season to show some moxy and play making ability.
Still, I've seen enough of Mills and I'm looking forward to seeing a first round rookie QB with play making ability.
Overall, I agree.

The question should be was he a good prospect coming out of the draft, has he improved since, why or why not?

If you answer those questions & think his best days are ahead of him & he's got just as much potential as anyone in the draft, then you move forward with him. While we all have our opinions, they probably don't match up with the Texans as we were not privy to the meetings & practices. So we don't know how all those other factors affected Mills, the prospect.

All those factors, however, will affect this team regardless who the QB is so we need to make sure we address those (as the Texans) as well.

Personally I couldn't care less if Mills stays or don't, if he's our starter, or not. I'm more concerned with the issues that have plagued this team from day one. Something isn't right to carry these problems from regime to regime, even from owner to owner, more or less.

You conveniently disregard Field's contribution in the running game.

Like it or not; it's why the Ravens had to put a franchise tag on Lamar J while they hope to work out a deal.

My personal preference doesn't count as I think there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Mason helps plug the hole at RG. He’s a vet with 120 career starts. Plus we didn’t have to give up much to get him.
We're pretty much swapping bandaids. This is the exact same thing as Cann. He's younger. We'll see if they give him an extension. But even then, it's just prolonging what you already have.

yep, the Texans have had other significant problems than only Mills to move forward. Frankly imo Mills was thrown in the middle of all that organization and bad changing decisions and for that I give him the benefit of doubt aka as a break.

Yes I dispute your claim.
Home games count the most; next are divisional games.
Both Tennesse and Florida have zero or next to zero income tax and Indiana is middle of the road.

Texas players pay less tax than most NFL players.
And their overall tax burdens are similarly favorable due to the low cost of living in Texas (cheap properties, and so forth.)

Nick goes back to the dollar store today. He forgot to pick up his travel-sized shampoo yesterday. It's called Shed and Holders.

Maybe he'll go back and pick up a comb and a plastic razor later today.

Meanwhile, Chicago went to Neimann Marcus, SF went to Prada, and ATL shopped at Saks.

Allow me to add gas prices rent food nursing and assisted living housing etc Veteran benefits for Texas veterans etc

lol, i hope NC isn’t heading into these negotiations trying to sell players on coming here for veteran’s benefits, gas prices & assisted living housing.. if he is, then i think we know why none of these splash FA’s are coming here.

The pattern on offense is a bunch of JAG's that wont move the needle in the big picture, but I do see a more physical offense all in all.

Woods is likely a replacement for Cooks. Woods a better blocker, Cooks is a better receiver. It's nice he can run block but last time I looked a receiver's main job is to receive. I'm calling this a wash under the assumption of Woods plus a 4th for Cooks. Very slight chance they smoke a peace pipe together and keep him, but seems unlikely.

They have a FB that looked increasingly good as the year progressed after a position change. This new guy might have more tools in the toolbox than Hairston, but is he has good at primary FB duties as Hairston? I'm assuming Hairston is gone. I'm calling this a wash until I see something from this new guy. Right now, it feels like a nothing burger move.

Noah Brown? Replacing Moore or Dorsett, probably Dorsett. Phillip is speedier but Brown is more physical and could be a contributor on teams. It's a plus I suppose, but a very minor one. Nothing to write home about. Again, dollar store bargain bin.

The RB they signed. ZERO benefit. I see nothing at all to make me think that signing is anything but bottom of the roster building. That's like the leftover item bin at the dollar store. Stupid signing. Money had better usage elsewhere.

Replacing Cann with Mason is the best upgrade on offense so far. Nothing against Cann. He's a serviceable G, but based on what I already knew along with studying up on Mason, I see him as a better, more physical player and a better run blocker. This is a sneaky good upgrade that should benefit the run game significantly.

We need a Center in the worst way - for the love of God Nick, let's go get a tier 2 C and solidify the interior of this line! Even a tier 3. Stop with the dollar store shopping and actually get a difference-maker for once in your life.

Notice the Texans didn't make a push, it was the Jets. The guy actually wanted to be paid, and Nick said sorry all we can offer is Min wage plus a few massage sessions at the Houstonian. But he did ask Jake if you know of some crappy Center we can sign on the cheap, send him my way. I'm the master of disaster, the creep of cheap, the Da Vinci of stingy, and the miser advisor. I am the film flam man of the money jam, the keeper of benjamins and I make all of Cal's dollars holler before I let em go.

Out of guys where you say ok, he's "the guy" and don't worry so much about the draft...probably down to Ben Jones.

He's aging, but I think a 2 year deal ala Jimmie "Dyno-Myte" Ward would be fine. Draft a guy late to develop maybe, and you've got Scott Q as a backup for this year.

Not great, but at this point, that's basically it.

yea I know just talking about living in Texas in general the cost of living and taxes compared to other states as previously read. Besides late in football life a player may need assistant living look at the great banged up Earl Campbell. Injury insurance plays a big role too. Actually he was a huge founder and advocate for future injury protection coverage for a player's future life.

:pissed: Chill out man, jeez! I can’t imagine what you’re gonna be like on draft day.

Location matters.
I mean all the guys that get cut after the draft. Solid guys always hit the market. Roster cut days too.
I see what you're saying, but the post June 1st cuts are usually obvious now. Some teams might hold onto players in hopes of finding a trade partner, but I don't think there are a significant amount of ++ players then.

I’m sure that had absolutely nothing to do with Green being a rookie, Britt quitting, Cooks no longer giving a sh!t, etc.

Mills sucked because the team sucked.
That and.. Mills sucked. If team had been better, Mills still sucked. If we had better coaches and easier schedule...
Mills sucked.
