2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

Doesn't anyone remember this "event" prior to the Draft? No death involved, but that was shear luck. Both resulting from stupidity, with only one having the fortune of not involving fatalities.

The big differences are the fatality, leaving the scene, and giving the run around with the investigation. Now I don’t know how much it’ll hurt his stock, if any. But it would have me ask some hard questions.

Carter is due at the podium soon. It should be interesting how he handles the pressure.

IMO because Jim Irsay has been riding the QB Carousel since Andrew Luck retired so he will make Chicago an offer they cannot refuse. Chicago's thinking should be that gives Fields another year to improve or not and based on their roster, there is a good chance if Fields does not improve Chicago could be in position next year to get Williams or Maye.
The Carter news might throw a wrench in this; no longer can they trade down too much and miss out on a stud. There was two elite defensive guys at the top and now it's just Anderson. It is too soon to say because there's so much time before the draft and now and Carter has been charged with two misdemeanors

I'd go ahead and take Carter at 2 if he's still there and then do whatever I needed to do in order to get Levis and if that means moving up from 12 so be it. BPA with what remains. I'm not a draft guy or even much of a football fan at this point but that's what I would do. Just wanted to get that in here so I could then look back on it and see if I was badly mistaken or not.

Reported took the life of another teammate? oic he was just there at the scene but not involved then? First time I heard of all this.

Well, this is typical Texans. Lose Young to the Colts trade up and take Carter off their board because of an arrest warrant. This was public news when it happened on Jan 15th. The arrest does come as a surprise. I imagine that Hannah has already taken Carter off the Texans draft board. UGA Pro Day is in 2 weeks Mar. 15th. Will Carter be there? If it is just reckless driving and racing he might survive.

Kinda like @steelbtexan. Anything to try to prove your argument. Everyone without bias has said that Stroud was great in the game.
Now who is doing all of the apologizing and making excuses? Under pressure, he threw a bad pass that got his WR killed and removed from the game and likely cost the Buckeyes the game.

I never said Stroud didn't have a great game, so dont bring me into this. However Stroud while still playing well didn't play his best ball in the 4th qtr.

Taking a realistic look at the possibility of trades at the top of the draft order, if Detroit decides to ride with Goff as some reports suggests, then four of the top six teams are in need of a defensive draft.

Chicago, Arizonia and Seattle all have EDGE and DL as top priorities. Detroit's top priority is reportedly a LB, with DL next.

So Indy can likely just sit tight and get one of the two top qbs.

Houston is sitting in the cat's bird position. Any trading will be to menuever to get a desired DL'man, Anderson or Carter or, maybe, Murphy. Any trade down in the top six, Houston could still be in a position to get either Stroud or Young.

That is, if a team at 7 to 11 doesn't leapfrog the Texans.

But the question is, how valuable a commodity is Anderson and will there be any trade offers to acquire him, if he's there at 2.

Seattle and Detroit both have extra picks in rounds 1 and 2 available for trading.

Carter? Who knows how his situation will shake out? My guess is he will get off lightly and his draft status will not suffer, much.

Totally agree but want to clarify my position: Fields will not put this roster into playoffs. Fields with draft picks including trade downs from 1.1 and 1.12 plus trade ups rounds 4 thru 7 plus trade of Brandin Cooks (today 4 articles mentioning "multiple teams interested") plus a few significant FAs might put us in playoffs this season.

However back the stage coach up a bit. One guy That no one has heard of has said bears will trade Fields and 1.1 to Houston.

Am I madly scribbling what I would do with additional pics from 1.1 trade down offers? You betcha. Do I realistically think that will happen? No. But I never thought that Houston would trade DeAndre Hopkins or give what we did for Laremy Tunsil.

IIRC, not too many years ago someone posted an incredible suggestion that a prominent Texan would be leaving. He was slammed and ridiculed. Turned out his source was correct.

That account was a parody account.

Jalen Carter's new walkout song...

I'm a bad boy for racin' my Jeep
And I'm free

I understand that, but they both stem from initial irresponsibility. Also Williams lied argued with the police about his speed.

I want Bijan on this team. If he’s there at 12 take him.

His closest comp is probably McCaffrey. Great player. Taken very high by a rebuilding Panthers team.

Tell me again how many playoff games the Panthers won with McCaffrey?

Great rb, BUT he isn't carrying a team and RB's have short shelf lives. I'm on record as stating I'd never take a RB in round one under any circumstances.

I'll modify that slightly - if you're building a team like a hot fudge sundae, and you've got your ice cream, your fudge, and your whipped topping, and you've just sprinkled on the nuts...but you're looking for the elusive cherry on top...I'm possibly in on the idea.

But right now, this team hasn't even gone to Dairy Queen yet. So, in this circumstance, no way am I taking Bijon. Now if he's still (very unlikely) sitting there at 33, let's talk.

Who did the Carolina Panthers take with the 2nd pick plus the 33 pick plus 2 round three's and a round 4? The point is it's not just one player that's going to win a Super Bowl for any team. However we can wisely use this off season to mix and match a team that possibly could go to the playoffs this season.

Well of course it was! On the other hand, what is wrong with the trade as stated? Works great for both teams.

I wouldn't make that trade if I am the Texans sir! And I doubt the Bears do either. I've said it once and I've said it a million times - a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Trading a known for an unknown if very risky.

Give Fields another year to develop. He has issues passing the rock, but he was making strides in that area and he's become a real weapon in the run game. If he can improve again on the pass side, you've got a franchise QB. If he regresses the Bears are probably at or near the top next year and you can get Maye or one of the other potential high picks in 24.

Ryans was asked about Young and called him an outstanding player and said “Wish him the best moving forward”

Slip of the tongue that we aren’t interested, Ryans playing games, or just a nothing statement that I’m reading into?

What y’all think?

Everything said at this point in the process is an absolute nothing statement..

Their media objective is to speak respectfully without saying anything..

They're serving up tofu burgers..

I would be shocked if Carter gets taken in the top 10 now, which means it may not be in the Bears best interest to trade back. Arizona is unlikely to pass on Anderson. Maybe if the Bears are more concerned with quantity than quality they still trade back, but it looks like Houston will have their pick of QBs or an opportunity to trade back if they aren't thrilled with this QB class.

I may be wrong as I have scant details so far, but it's usually not a good sign for a draftee to be arrested two months before the draft.

I'll stick to my Pom Tetty rendition of free fallin'...

I dont see Carter falling out of the top 7. If he does Caserio should trade up for him after picking Anderson or Wilson at 1-2.

Instant improvement on defense. Probably have to give up 1-12/2-33/and a 2024 3rd. If this was to happen

Give me

Bring in Jimmy - he'll be an upgrade over Mills. Better bolster the line for him and get him a running game and some weapons to throw to.
This will mean a Offense centric draft.

Georgia football star Jalen Carter is charged in a crash that killed two people
  • March 1, 20232:26 PM ET

ATLANTA — Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, projected as one of the top players in next month's NFL draft, has been charged with reckless driving and racing in conjunction with the crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and a recruiting staff member.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has issued an arrest warrant, obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, that alleges Carter was racing his 2021 Jeep Trackhawk against the 2021 Ford Expedition driven by the recruiting staffer, 24-year-old Chandler LeCroy, which led to the Jan. 15 wreck.

Carter had been due in Indianapolis on Wednesday for the NFL scouting combine and is expected to address the arrest warrant when he returns to Athens, according to Lt. Shaun Barnett of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

"It is my understanding that Mr. Carter is making arrangements to turn himself in," Barnett said in an e-mail to the AP.

The crash occurred just hours after the Bulldogs celebrated their second straight national championship with a parade and ceremony, killing LeCroy and Willock.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart expressed his concern about the charges in a statement issued Wednesday.

"The charges announced today are deeply concerning, especially as we are still struggling to cope with the devastating loss of two beloved members of our community," Smart said.

"We will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities while supporting these families and assessing what we can learn from this horrible tragedy."

According to the arrest warrant, the investigation by Athens police found that LeCroy and Carter were operating their vehicles "in a manner consistent with racing" after leaving downtown Athens around 2:30 a.m.

The warrant says evidence shows the vehicles switched lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes, overtook other motorists and drove at high rates of speed "in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other."

Police determined LeCroy's Expedition was traveling at about 104 mph (167 kph) shortly before the crash. The warrant says LeCroy's blood-alcohol concentration was .197 at the time of the crash. The legal limit in Georgia is .08.

Willock, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. LeCroy was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Offensive lineman Warren McClendon, who had just announced plans to enter the NFL draft, sustained minor injuries. Georgia football staffer Victoria Bowles was hospitalized with more serious injuries.

Georgia athletic department officials said on Jan. 28 that the vehicle driven by LeCroy was expected to be used only for recruiting activities, not personal use.

Let’s be real, Carter is already off the Texans draft board at this point unless this is proved completely false.
Carter is being charged with reckless driving and racing. Both are misdemeanors. Carter left the scene but then returned to make statements to the police. He supposedly was racing Leroy at over 100 mph and in, some, traffic.

Isn't this pretty typical behavior in our society today? Look at what happened in Austin last week. Unlikely Texans will be drafting Carter, but is this really so bad?

One day, someone will have to explain the logic of the following: somehow, it is a more serious crime when an impaired person drives wrecklessly than when a completely sober and coherent person decides to wrecklessly put the lives of everyone at risk. Throw his ass in jail!
