2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

But I'll match your negatives with:

Good Size and build
Very Good arm strength and has shown he can make all NFL throws
Great athlete for the position
Not just a scrambler, but also can be a designed runner
Him being a one year starter is a positive (had he played the way he did as a multiple year starter he wouldn't be thought of as a top QB)
He improved as the season went on and showed progress. While you look at his last two games as a possible aberration, many--including myself--see them as him showing the improvement you'd expect to see out of a guy who started all year for the first time
There are specific instances on film where Richardson made the wrong read earlier in the year, but saw it again later in the season and made the correct adjustment
This shows growth and coachability



I'm not drafting anyone and neither are you. We are just discussing prospects on a MB. All of these guys have "unrealized potential". The reason Mills went third round is because in that draft the GM's in the league didn't think he was worth taking a chance on in the first round for whatever reasons. We will see where Richardson ends up.

If that is true, his draft stock will rise dramatically on draft day.
One tactic Texans could employ on day one is to make a small move back into the first round using pick #33 plus say #65 and take Hooker with the idea of giving him as many first team reps in the lead up to the regular season as necessary to bring him up to speed with the Texans playbook. If his leg is still a little bit troubling, you play your backup until there are no questions about it.
This young man can spin the ball, no question.
He prides himself on his accuracy - just what you want to hear.

I agree with this approach, though I would not expect him to realistically be 100% until ~Oct.

The highest-paid LT in the league for a team that is in its 3rd year of a 1st-year rebuild does not compute. That is a waste of time, money, and talent. It's a BIG picture view, not the tunnel vision view of only the season at hand that this team has chronically suffered from.

I would rather have any of the Top 5 WRs in college in 2023 than the Top 5 in this draft class. I also like Brock Bowers. I also like a team deep in both trenches like Philly and KC. Then again I'm a BIG picture guy instead of the one draft in front of us kind of guy.

Any QB would benefit from a year of "observation." Whether Hooker was chosen to wait out until Oct.........or the entire season, probably would have some real advantages.

Give me Dell or Scott in the 3rd and draft one of these guys in 2024.

The Washington WR's and the LSU guy is very good.

Disagree about Tunsil, you dont trade top 3 OT's that are 28 yrs old unless it's for a kings ransom. (Those guys get paid) A rookie QB and a rookie LT in the same yr doesn't seem like a smart thing to do.

Keep on pinching those pennies.

This just in, protecting your rookie QB’s blindside is now a waste of money and talent…

The big picture view is we have boat loads of draft capital, a lot of money, and almost no one else to pay for the next 3 years.

Let’s pay a LT, LT money when the Texans are a playoff team. That is still 3 or 4 years away. So why waste that kind of money when you can get a very good LT for a fifth of the cost and a 1st rd draft pick too?

Personally I'm happy not having to worry about protecting a young QB's blindside for the next 4-5 yrs. I will admit I'm trying to avoid what happened with DB. Give me the known over the unknown since there's plenty of cap space available. Does this train of thought make me a koolaid drinker?

Well, your thinking is consistent with wanting to keep Brandin Cooks for Davis Mills. (How'd that work out for Cooks and Mills?)What happened to DC is a classic case of what happens when building a team you put skill players first ahead of the players in the trenches.

He didn't like the return on the Derrick trade.

He also claimed back when Caserio 1st started clearing the cap that Caserio was mismanaging the cap and that Caerio had no idea what fiscal responsibility looked like.

Contrary to what you believe, restructuring every contract that can be restructured is NOT clearing up the cap.

Tell me do they have enough cap space to add 3-4 top/mid tier FA's? Do they have the ability to easily create another 30-35 mil in cap space if they need it?

Bottom line is if they hit on whatever QB they choose and draft/FA well they will be contenders in the next 3 yrs. Maybe sooner
